Hi there mods, DS, AS etc..
I was after an Inn or Tavern in the docklands area of Syliras and seeing there was nothing of the sort I took the liberty of writing something up. I was wondering if I could get some constructive critisism or comments on wether it would be appropriate for me to make this post in the Syliras forum. Thankyou,
P.S I have tried to give a different spin on the typical sailor bar, this is no weather beaten piss hole it is a fairly upstanding establishment and the Inn keep prides himself on running a flourishing business here. The description of the Inn is fairly brief for now as I didn't know if I was wasting my time.. but I would love to expand on it if you think its worth pursuing.
The docklands area of Syliras is, for a district principally frequented by the less savory members of society, a fairly well kept addition to the city. As far as crime was concerned, the close proximity to the headquarters of the Syliran Knights and the frequent incursions of members from that order into the district on official business or otherwise, meant that it stayed relatively clean.
I say relatively in the loosest possible sense of the word though for as far as sailors are concerned the sea is their home and the streets of a city no matter how large are their playground. This mentality exists among seafaring folk of all vocations, there is a certain feeling of invincibility when you have the sea at your back, seafaring folk know that there is always escape in that cold blue expanse far beyond the reach of landlubbers and the like, thus the sense of community among those who live upon the sea is tantamount to family and the respect they have for the city and its streets is minimal at best.
Amid the bustling streets of the busy port district there are several locations of interest, not the least of which is the Fouled Rig, an Inn with a stalwart reputation for its lewd and bawdy atmosphere and continual presence, year round, of the most swill loving sailors this side of Mizahar.
The Inn keeper runs a tight ship (excuse the pun) with bouncers on the door day and night, because well, lets say with the turnover he is getting he can certainly afford bouncers more than broken chairs and furniture. The Inn hosts several theme nights a week, the most popular of which being the card and dice nights on which nights the bouncers are doubled and much fun is had by all.
From the outside the Inn is fairly well looked after, a fresh coat of paint and interesting nautical frescoes depicting famous scenes from nautical history and mythology front the Inn giving it an inviting feel.
On the inside the Inn keeper has taken a rather minimalistic approach, keeping it very simple, long benches run down the room from end to end providing a very sociable atmosphere where you are never drinking alone. There are no dark corners for people to skulk in as each of the corners houses a small stage where minstrels and singers often take their posts.
