At night the sea always looked the same. Reflecting so brightly and yet not a thing could be seen beneath the surface as if there were always something to hide. Still it was beautiful and for once the breeze was less harsh, the boats only swaying in their stalls the whole thing looked very much like a painting if it wasn’t for the birds and their incessant chatter. But honestly, it was late to be taking a dip but just a quick one then she’d go home.
Theia couldn’t move forward though, not even a step. She was being foolish really, she loved to swim but she already felt like she was under water and her lungs filling to the point where…and she was going to stop that right now. It was time to go home but if she had come to bathe she might as well get it over with, wasn’t like she had money to go get one anywhere else.
It almost felt like she hadn’t eaten, light-headed with her stomach knotting unpleasantly but there was a panic she couldn’t let go of. Made her want to ignore even the people around her because they were the same people she seen every day. Gods, she was being ridiculous, she was just going to go home. But no she wasn’t, she was going to walk to the water and swim.
One foot first and then the other and put everything aside, besides a swim was a great idea. There was no more questioning for she was already at the edge of the docks toing the water. It came back full force, the fear, the rocks in her stomach and the things lodged in her throat. She wished her brother were here to tell her to go home, that anyone was there to tell her to go home. But no one ever paid attention and in her minds eyes she could already see herself.
A young woman, she standing and jumping in. Simple but no one could see her and she didn’t…didn’t what? “Its fine.” She mumbled, the people walking by and looking right through her as if she wasn’t…but she was. She could see it now. She was. Her hands reached down to pat at her legs, and slowly upward not leaving any part unchecked for. Even now she could see herself through the faint fog, she was going to swim…if she could just get in.

He didn't notice the presence of a ghost on the dock, probably because he was locked in his mind like a caged beast; but Ricky had arrived at the docks and took a seat on a crate near the spectral lass. He was wearing his full wintry outfit, which concluded of the short sleeve cotton over the long sleeve cotton and a jacket to hold in that heat. Of course it hardly did its job well for Zeltivan tempatures, but for Ricky it was more than enough to hold in important body tempature. The man was already more like a bear in his case, therefore layers of clothing didn't seem all that necessary.
When he took a seat he thought he saw the figure of a woman standing nearby, however his mind was too involved with his thoughts to register what it was he was seeing. As eerie he may be able to feel Ricky never really experience "the paranormal" before, therefore he had always remained a skeptic about ghosts. However that was before a life altering event that happened some time ago, now he was lost in a world full of false beliefs and no justification to the truth. Theia could easily snap him into reality should she choose to, how Ricky would react to actually seeing a ghost was anybody's guest really.

She was grasping at anything desparate not to delve deeper into her thoughts but unable to break away. Instead she felt a breeze that may or may not have been, smelt salt and felt for the water with her toes. Theia near lost herself if not for the faint distraction of another body settling beside her. The man loomed to be as lost as she felt, staring blankly at the world while it passed him by. It reminded her of her own person for a moment, though why she couldn't fathom. But it was a distraction to the everything that pushed on her mind and she angled her body towards him.
«Your gonna take a dip too?» She started unsure of her wording or anything really. «Are you alright?»
The sentences seemed to blur together but it was apparent that the phrase might not even be meant for him. It felt right to ask it. Theias' eyes never left the water content to stare into its depths. The only thing that seemed strange was the almost silence that surrounded the area. Vague shouts of orders from sailors, the thump of work and the waves of the water. But tranger still was that for some reason the waer lacke dc something as it stared back at her, as if it couldn't see her.
«I'm here.» She snapped at it and stared at the water like it personally offended her. |

Ricky's mind was too clouded to register Theia's presence at first, but when a cold chill not of the wind crept up his spine he shivered it off; hearing the unusual sound of what could've been whispering. Or was it whispering? He looked over to his right to find nothing out of the ordinary, the sea that stretched before him seemed as plain as ever, and the left was the same as the right of course; ordinary as the day came even with a spectral form standing near him.
'A spectral form.' His mind registered as his gaze to returned to the sea, but when his thoughts finally deciphered what was referred to as "spectral" in this case his attention immediately moced back to Theia. 'Holy shyke, that be either a illusion or ghost!' His eyes popped as he finally made out the shape, it was indeed a form he had to focus on making out. The way the spector seemed to fade in and out of tge world made him curious as to if he were literally going insane.
Yet here it was. She actually. Be it ghost or illusion, it was a female by the looks of it; took the form of ine anyway. What he should do and would normally do are two different things, after all many people had different reactions to situations such as this; but his was a dual between denying and acknowledging her presence. What he did next was the first thing to come to mind, "Who's there?"

Theia turned to glare at the man, getting a better look at him in the process. He was large, in that he seemed both tall and wide but not intimidating, especially with his feelings written so plainly. Theia's feelings were clear as well in her voice if not her face, «Am I invisible to you too? Or are you trying to play a trick like the water?»
Her gaze returned to the water, a smidgen of her ire be doused by the feelings of creeping desparation. Folding her legs under her she knelt down at the edge of the dock and focused on what the water was missing. It seemed like her reflection wasn't there to stare back but Theia couldn't summon the energy to check herself or even believe what the water showed her to be true. And this only served to anger her more.
«I'm Theia,» she spat, «I have aname so I must be here, how do I know your here?»
The anger was not directed at the man but she couldn't very well yell at the water for it would have no reply. Her arm twitched with the urge to fling something at the smooth surface but there was nothing within reach. |

Ricky was at a loss when the spectral form looked upon him, even more so when she turned her gaze back over to the water. The presence of paranormal was ever present enough to give Ricky the chills, goosebumps decorated his arms and his hair felt as if it all stood on end. The ghost couldn't possibly be the Black Lady could she? He never imagined running into a spirit before in his life. To experience now was not only intimidating, but also curiously fascinating.
When she seemed to speak she looked as if she were shouting, angry and flustered at something Ricky didn't know of. Her voice seemed still quite faint, but it was no longer a whisper. "How do I know you're here?"
"Uh..." Ricky looked to the water, he wondered what it was that the ghost could be thinking. "I'm physically here that much I know." Ricky checked himself to make sure, a few pats on the chest, the shoulders, and he was positive he was really here; and that this obviously wasn't a different dream. He would've welcomed the thought. To dream of someone already dead, instead of dreaming the same death over and over. "Yer not entirely here though. Yer a uh... a uh...." He wasn't sure if the spectral woman new this or not, so he hoped it wouldn't come to her as a shock. "Yer a ghost." He finally pointed out, and wondered if she heard him. |

Confusion in the air was obvious, Theia didn’t understand what the man was saying entirely and he seemed to be as lost as she felt. “Physically? So mentally your sailing away? Or mentally there’s nothing there.”
Her words were sharp, annoyance clear cut at the ghost comment. The word haunted her like damned ghost, a blur of faces pointing at her and spewing the filth over and over. Today was shaping up to just be a right pain in the ass.
“And if you’re only here physically how do I know you’re not some ghost. Could be pretending to be this poor guy. What are you doing just sitting here anyway? People got to work on the docks, get the ships in gear or are you a sailor? A drunk sailor probably to be shouting ghost at people.”
Theia cut her tirade off abruptly, turning away with a shiver. Ghosts. Ghosts and a plague on them and all who thought they were real. But her anger was filtering out with each frustrated word spat at her forced companion. He was more than just a distraction now, he was a misplaced target for her own self-loathing at the moment. “Well don’t just sit there stuttering.”
There was not a thing apologetic in her tone, not yet but she could already feel the niggling of guilt. The man was just confused and she was just angry. |
