“Sure am. And if you're wondering what I am doing in a town such as this, I was bored” she answered, at which Valo could not help but smile. Although he wasn't going to question her as to her presence in Zeltiva, it was lovely to hear such a reason. After all, is there really a better reason? Valo him self was the living breathing embodiment of the fact that even the most basic of reasons are good enough.

"You see right though me, don't you?" he said. "Most people look at the hair and instantly assume I'm Inarta. But I'm a half breed of a sort. My mother is Inarta whilst my father was human. In fact I spent most of my childhood in wind Reach. How about you..." a pause as he scanned his brain. " Forgive me but... did I ask your name?"

for a moment he was terribly embarrassed. It's a common curtsy to ask the name of the person you're conversing with. Especially if the conversation is so very enjoyable. But it must have either escaped his mind completely... or worse still, he forgot the name. How shameful!

Soft crumbling of charcoal

Kiya laughed, “My name is Kiya and your's is Valo, would you like me to write it down for you?” she did not mean to be rude with this comment, for the kelvic herself was terrible with remembering names and it had taken her at least a season to remember her own, and another two seasons to remember that of her master's. “Just kidding” Kiya added, “I can't write”

She sat back and thought of how to answer the young man's question. Her childhood was not something she talked about openly with people, especially people she just met no matter how comfortable she felt around them.

“... I've been travelling around the Sylira region ever since I was young” Kiya said and looked up at Valo, “What's Wind Reach like? Do you miss your family?”

"Travelling eh. Seems like you and I are rather alike." he smiled. For some reason he felt very comfortable around this Kiya. Perhaps because he didn't really know her, or maybe because she had a certain quality bout her that made him this way. Whatever it was, he very much enjoyed this conversation and was desperate to continue it.

“What's Wind Reach like? Do you miss your family?” she asked.

"Indeed I do." he replied nostalgically. The very thought of his mother made him very homesick indeed. "I left my mother and two sisters behind to pursue this artist profession of mine. They are probably all grown up by now. Do you have any family?" he asked, completely unaware that he was treading upon dangerous territory.

Soft crumbling of charcoal

Postby Kiya on November 2nd, 2012, 5:54 am

The girl cleared her throat stopping herself from growling instinctively. Valo's question brought back many unwanted memories, things that still woke her up in the night, things that the kelvic had tried hard to forget.

She made an attempt to keep her tone light and voice even but was unable to hide the anger the swelled up inside her, “I don't know, never met them. They sold me when I was very young”

Kiya forced a smile, trying to think of something else but the images had been burnt into her memory, “Can you tell me about your sisters? What are they like?”

“I don't know, never met them. They sold me when I was very young” she said.

Any trace of a smile escaped from Valo's expression. His lips were somewhat ajar and eyes clouded by sadness. How could any parent do something so terrible to their child. Him self he had a soft spot for children in his heart and the knowledge of this pained him so that he wanted to wrap his arms protectively around her.

But then again, was it really that much worse than what he was doing right now? For in Zeltiva's orphanage lay a little bundle of rags and porcelain; and that very bundle was likely to be his daughter. Even if he didn't quite know whether she was his or not, was it up to him to take care of her? And could he really take care of a baby alone? These infinite questions burdened him greatly.

“Can you tell me about your sisters? What are they like?” the question brought him back to reality.

He looked at the Kelvic with longing and replied. "I have not seen them for so long that I very much doubt they're the same little girls I knew, the day I left Wind Reach. But I can sure tell you they're damn hard workers. One day they'll make the greatest glass workers in the whole of Wind Reach and they'll make me and mother very proud."

She tilted her head to the side and pursed her lips, “Glass workers?” The kelvic knew what woodworkers were, so she figured that glass workers designed and created glass.

Kiya had never been ashamed by her lack of knowledge, the less you knew the more things there were to learn. But many people found her asking of questions rather annoying and dismissed her completely. Whenever she had asked her master about the odd ways of the odd creatures she saw, he would scold her for talking then send her back to work. She shuddered at the memory.

“Do they have any kids?” she paused then asked seriously, “That's something that adults do right? Have families?”

Soft crumbling of charcoal

Postby Valo on November 13th, 2012, 6:57 pm

This sudden question caused Valo's eyes to grow wider. His lip gentry dropped and his entire expression was that of distress. For a moment he seemed like he had seen a ghost, or something else which troubled him very much. But the truth was, that he didn't really know the answer to Kiya's question. It has been months since his mother wrote to him. During that time so much could have changed... the very thought has scared him. He had very much missed his family.

Composing him self he replied. "Forgive me, but I don't really know if I can truthfully reply to that question. The truth is, I haven't heard from my family in a long time. And it has been years since I've seen them face to face, so I still think of them both as little girls." he hang his head, staring at the floor.

Watching the man for a moment, his head drooping and his expression changing to that of dismay, Kiya was made to wonder. Having never had a family to miss, she found it hard to comfort Valo and found herself sitting in silence for a while, not knowing what to say.

But, there was something the kelvic really found difficult to understand. And after a moment, she voiced her concerns.

“If you miss them so much, why haven't you gone to see them?” Kiya asked, pushing some hair out of her face, “I mean... is your art more important then being with family? And I'm sure if you were to go back, you could find things to draw. Probably things more beautiful and interesting than fish...”

Valo smiled at her, but a sadness betrayed his good intention for the smile was not quite complete. "It's more difficult than that my dear." he spoke. "I have unfinished business here in Zeltiva. And the very reason I came here in the first place was to enrol at the university to study art. Well that hasn't happened yet... but it will"

Valo wasn't a secretive person, but he wished not to pursue the topic of his unfinished business. So instead he filled the silence with details of his travels. "Then there is the issue that the very journey here from Wind Reach took me somewhat over a year. And even though is was exciting, to be able to leave the protective comfort of my mother's home, I am not the travelling type. Sure I will return one day. But that's just not the case. I don't have the time, nor the money for another such adventure."
