Syliran Ball?

Hey, I was wondering if anyone else thinks a big formal ball in castle Storm-hold would be a cool idea. Like a real polish up your armor, don the cape, buy a new dress, get out the glass slippers and don't turn into a pumpkin kind of unforgettable medieval-fantasy type formal ball.

I can't imagine an occasion that would call for such a thing, or how one would get on the invitation list (maybe purchase a ticket?) It would probably be a moderator nightmare, too, with so many people in attendance.

Does anyone else like the sound of this, or am I just being crazy? Comments?

I whish there was something that was so important to be celebrated,
that all of Mizarah heard about the ball [so we could have numerous

Maybe the coming of summer? A summer dance? Or...
I don't know much about the Sylira region, but if it has a king, maybe he's getting married and holding a grand ball, or maybe he's inviting the kingdom to a dance to help his elligable young son find a suitable girl for marriage. ^.^

I really think this is a good idea and would love to see it carried out.

We came from another site before we created Mizahar that had a situation where a ball was held every month for this or that. They all pretty much turned out the same way - over and over again. Everyone was enthusiastic. Everyone showed up. Everyone posted two to four posts and then they died horrible ugly deaths and were just hanging there as threads. The problem with balls is simple. Unless the pbase is driven to self motivation, a moderator cannot actually inject a mystery or a mini adventure within the course of the ball because the sheer number of people that show up and overwhelm makes this impossible. And truthfully with the sheer number of people, the thread immediately turns to utter chaos. Its predestined.

So... I'm not running any balls in Syliras... at least not at this particular time. Why? The sheer number of people in Syilras makes it inevitable that it will be just the same old glitzy yawn fest all the other ones I've been too have been. That doesn't mean, however, that a private citizen can't put one on if they'd like.

Parties are completely different stories. They don't involve ballgowns and suits that cost hundreds of Mizas - which exclude most of the population - jewelry, glitz and glamour that simply doesn't truthfully exist in Syliras. I've never found it realistic that mr. poor or mrs. poor show up in their traveling gear to attend the fancy balls... and thats what often happens.

Aww fooey. I didn't think about all that, but it makes perfect sense. Why does reality always ruin my fantasy!?

Well, a party would be fun, too. Kam would definitely trek out to Wind Reach if you Inartans threw a rager. Word in Mizahar is that the Inarta really know how to cut loose and get wild.

Ehhh, I guess Gossamer's right. It'll be like the idea involving the Coliseum. A almost instant death to the thread.

-sigh- What if it was super-small-scale? That might be fun. ^-^ Like, three or five people. But it needs some kind of interesting twisty type thing, otherwise people will be like 'YeahhhhhhhhNO'.

There's a lot of things we can do to include almost everyone that wants to come until Syliras has a more developed upperclass of Knights and Knight wives - they could probably afford ballgowns. Street Fairs, Clam bakes, bonfire parties, kite festivals, any sort of food celebration like a harvest dance (without the glitz), etc...
