40th day Winter 512 AV A mercenary woman, clad in black leather clothes, walked through Syliras in the early morning, her face clearly showing her discontent. Yes, right now Revy was not in a good mood. She felt her coinpurse getting light each season for a while now. Having been unable to properly work for extended periods of time did take it's toll. So, what else could she do besides going out to find a contract? In the end, the mercenary woman ended up in the docks. Physical labor... not particularly Revy's favorite kind of work. It was usually monotonous and thus boring work, but she shouldn't complain as it seemed that they did lack a number of hands to load up a ship that was, according to what she could hear from all the yelling, bound for Riverfall. Riverfall, a place she didn't really want to go again. Too many guys and while there was more then enough work, she as a woman was not particularly waiting for Akalaks trying to hire her body for reproduction. It was also the place where she got into a fight with some guy named Imass, though for some reason her memories of that were vague. ”Need an extra hired hand?”, the mercenary asked the guy leading the loading. ”Of course we need more hands, can't you tell imbecile? We're already behind schedule.”, he cussed, ”So get your ass to work, I'll pay you for work done.” ”Stay calm, stay calm, it's work that'll bring in money, so don't get pissed off.”, the mercenary kept repeating as a mantra to herself. Revy absolutely did not like being cussed at, nor did she like being called names, but contracts are contracts and they bring in the money which she started to need really bad. She walked over to where the different boxes were. All closed and nailed tight, too small to be loaded onto the ship by means of a crane, and still numerous in number. Taking a deep breath, Revy set to work. Grab em by the bottom, lift from the knees and get em on your shoulder for easy portability. It has been ages since Revy last loaded a ship, but at least she didn't forget the basics for lifting heavy stuff. The walkboard up to the ship proved a bit tricky at start, making her bounce a little as she tried to run up it. But with a number of crates and watching the other few loaders, she got the hang of it soon. No sooner then two bells after she started, did they finish. But the boss of the place informed them that they weren't ready. There were still a few other ships that still had to be loaded. They got ten chimes to grab a bite and something to drink, before they had to get back to work again. By the end of the evening, Revy and the other loaders just dropped down. They had finally finished for today and had managed to catch up a little on the schedule, but it still needed another full day's of work before they'd totally finish. ”Good work everyone. If you can come back tomorrow to do the last ship as well, I'll be both grateful and happy.”, that last part particular aimed at Revy, ”To be honest I hadn't expected that everyone would work this hard for the whole day and I had anticipated to another day of delay. Woman, I never caught your name, if you can come back tomorrow, I'll have work for you again. I can use a good pair of strong arms and you exceeded my expectations. I never thought that a woman could work this hard for so long with these heavy crates. Off goes my hat, if I had one, to you.” ”If possible I'd love to work here for an extended period of time. Regular work, even if it pays less, is always better then random contracts which have a good pay.”, Revy replied. Her muscles were gonna get trained for sure now, something she actually wanted, even though it would hurt like hell after work. ”If you work well and there is work, I'll make sure to set you up....., the ”The name's Revy, Revy Hiroe”, Revy filled in the blank for the leader. ”Ok, nice doing business with you, miss Hiroe. Come back tomorrow, I'll pay you then.”, he said. Revy, having had numerous contractors already, could easily tell that this guy was being honest. He apparently wanted able workers that listened and worked their bones off. ”A boss that people want to work for. Honest and straightforward. He cussed at them if they didn't work well, he praised them when they did work well. A good guy apparently. As long as he doesn't try to force his values on me, I'll continue to work for him until I find something better, or 'till I leave Syliras.... which may or may not be soon. Don't wanna stay in this knight-infested city too long.”, she thought to herself as she waved goodbye to the dockworkers. |
