It was a simple letter given to both Orinei and Vick. The letter for Orinei was dropped off by a golem within the Palsa Hydrasa and a pluser gave it to Vick within his lab, Legacy Imaginarium of Artifacts.

The letter was the same for both which read: “

Orinei and Vick, we have three plusers who are ill and need to be patched up and sent back to work. Since you two have shown some skill in this area you two are to work together to fix them up. They are within the Venenium Laboratory. You may use the Philtering items and the items within the boxes to try to find a cure. You may also find two books, one dealing with a more in depth of Philtering and a book dealing with Medicine that go with both of your skills. As normal, if the plusers die within your care as Nuits you will not be held to light. However it shall be noted for the future if they do live.

Signed Don’t question this”

Vick was minding his day within his lab working on another bone. This time it was from an Akalak leg but really the left femur bone. He did not know anything about the bone as he pulled his djed from the inner part of his soul into his eyes as his Auristics flared to life as he took his focus and looked upon the bone in question.

This was not a bone of a mage but a fighter. He could tell due to a mage had djed residue that was stronger in scope. Almost like it had a deeper layer past what warriors had. Besides that he could not learn much else from the bone as he let his auristics go as he shut his eyes. When he reopened them he saw just the normal bone.

Since he did not own the blood of the victim or even know what they did or died from he was moving in the dark once more. It was already cleaned and soaked so he could easily work with it even if he found Akalak bones much harder compared to humans.

Yet he did get another item that was different than normal. It was a dagger made out of steel. Just the head of it without the handle so Vick knew he would combine the two somehow but for now he would focus his time and energy into the bone.

A quill was taken in his right hand and he slowly sketched lightly along the bone acting as a blueprint for carving. This was getting smoother in his eyes as his hands slowly moved and made the tip of the quill dance with making designs. Circles of different styles came to be, linking and showing a figure thrust a blade into another figure showing a battle with the first figure winning over with the blade in hand.

Afterwards he took his carving prick and slowly yet carefully made a slight indent. This was something new in hopes to try to make it so this malediction item would not be seen as such but more of a pretty handle for the blade as he made.
Afterwards he placed the metal dagger along it and tied it with thin rope. It would work for now but he would have to ask Rayage to see if he could fuse the two together in a better fitting manner as he cut open his finger and running it along the new handle of the blade.

He made a note for any Alchemist to fuse them together as he made an golem relay a message for someone to test out the blade. He would have started on another but at that second a pluser came with a letter and Vick read it at once seeing it was odd to get a letter.

He just had to nod as he made his way towards the lab not even knowing who the other nuit. He even almost forgot he knew the skills from long ago as he never worked with them so it was more of a shock they wanted him to work with this. Yet he did not question it as he made his way towards the lab.

Life on the island

The letter was perhaps the most perplexing thing Orinei had encountered so far during her stay on Sahova.

She had been working—as usual, diligently cataloging the freshly (some less so than others) arrived corpses in the Palsa Hydrasa, going through her everyday motions, filling out the ledger line-by-line. J-3025. Human female, possible Vantha blood. 5’2’’, approximately 105 pounds. Black hair cropped short, violet eyes. Approximately 40 years of age.

Her determined scribbling were interrupted, though, by the whirring and clicking that alerted her to one thing, immediately: a golem in the Palsa Hydrasa. This in itself was quite strange. Golems visited the Palsa Hydrasa very infrequently—and she'd been complaining since her arrival about the lack thereof. Thanks to the ministrations of Amaryllis, who most Nuits agreed was a bit too attached to her long-gone lavish human nature, the place was nearly golem-free. Orinei had learned that the hard way on her first day, after a slight...disagreement with Amaryllis herself on the topic.

The golem whirred forward--it seemed like some sort of variation on a follower golem, only with a mail slot--and as it approached the table, the letter shot out of the slot, flying toward the table like some sort of deranged paper airplane. It fluttered to the table in front of her. Orinei hadn’t even had a chance to fix the golem with her trademark raised-eyebrow glare; however, the look of confusion now making its way across her features would have marred it. As the golem squeaked and rolled away, she quickly tore the envelope open; it wasn’t often that one received mail on Sahova, and it wasn’t as if she had any family to write her.

“Orinei and Vick, we have three pulsers who are ill and need to be patched up and sent back to work. Since you two have shown some skill in this area you two are to work together to fix them up. They are within the Venenium Laboratory. You may use the Philtering items and the items within the boxes to try to find a cure. As normal, if the pulsers die within your care as Nuits you will not be held to light. However it shall be noted for the future if they do live.

Signed, don’t question this.”

As she scanned the letter, Orinei’s eyebrows raised higher and higher, her lips pursed tightly. First of all—don’t question this? She could only speculate who in the name of Tanroa would have felt the need to conceal their identity from her. She wasn’t exactly important in the social hierarchy of Sahova—yet, that was. Who would have sent this?

Completely aside from that was the matter of her skill in Herbalism and Philtering. Sure, she had some basic knowledge—some very basic knowledge. Perhaps enough to make a simple tincture—but to keep someone alive? She smirked. The living…so very fragile. With a quiet sigh (she was being taken from her work, after all) she shut the ledger with a dull thud, standing up and stretching. She folded the letter carefully, placing it in the pocket of her black dress before she left the Palsa Hydrasa, heading to the Venenium Laboratory to see what all this fuss was truly about.

She’d never been to this lab, and her apprehension showed even though she tried to hide it. It wasn’t far from the Palsa Hydrasa—quite close, actually—but she hadn’t had the time to visit yet. As she stepped into the damp chambers, she wondered what was in store. Entering the lab, she realized she’d completely disregarded an integral part of the letter she’d received—the partner she’d be working with. Stepping into the lab, she scanned the room—who was this “Vick” she’d been paired up with?
