"A breeze here is not the touch of the wind. The rustling of the leaves is no living being." Hauntings are not uncommon in Mizahar. What makes the Haunted Falls different is the unique nature of the haunting, and the sheer number of souls participating. These falls remain the largest continuous mass haunting in the whole of the Wildlands. Because of this wise men travel ten to thirty miles in the wrong direction to avoid crossing the falls, no matter how safe the bridge appears from afar. The bridge is part of a road which was once traveled between Sunberth and Zeltiva, but which is now in disuse. The falls themselves are six days northwest of Sunberth. While the spirits who reside on this bridge are clear in making their presence known, the incidents of them manifesting directly are extremely rare. So rare, in fact, that they are considered to be little more than rumor. It is speculated that they conceal themselves within the water and the surrounding foliage while tormenting travelers. The only evidence which proves the mass haunting of this location is the presence of distinctly ghostly effects which could not be achieved by any single ghost, unless that ghost were truly vast in its powers. The strange and unpleasant smells of death haunt any who attempt to cross the bridge. Chills wrack their body, as well as freezing the fine mist of water which covers the surface of the bridge. Witnesses have seen overly curious adventurers slip from the bridge to a rocky death far below, or glimpsed a man's cloak as it was gripped by a sudden force which rocked the him from his feet. Some claim that travelers who attempt to cross the bridge have also been seen to willingly throw themselves to their deaths with despair in their eyes. Those who wish to ease the pain of the inhabitants of the Haunted Falls sometimes approach the bridge and call out to the ghosts. Rarely a spiritist will enter the location under the cover of darkness for reasons unknown. No matter the warnings offered by locals, the number of lives claimed by the bridge continues to grow. Further proof, the old men say, that the curiousity of youth can be deadly. OOCYou may thread in this location if you wish to observe the bridge, or suffer a failed attempt at crossing it. Any more direct interaction with the ghosts requires a moderator's attention. |
