An inland sea created by Ivak's cataclismic fury during the Valterrian, the Suvan Sea is a major trade route and the foremost hub for piracy in Mizahar. [lore]

Fang Isle is the aptly named chunk of rock a ways off the coast of Kalea, on the west side of the entrance to the Middle Suvan. The appearance of an upwards sticking fang has bred some superstition among the Svefra as to the reason behind the shape, with a popular legend being that it is the fossilized tooth of a huge and once might beast of the sea, though the more skeptical will point out that before the Valterrian there were no sea creatures in central Mizahar. While there is no room to build even a small shrine on the highly jagged rocky island, the children of the Sea Father often pray anyway as they pass or draw near, believing that it will grant their fighters increased tenacity and prowess for a short while. For this reason, it's a popular stop on the way through the treacherous Middle Suvan, for there are quite a few dangers when making one's way through the passage.
Non-Svefra don't share the same superstition, but they find the island useful nonetheless. Since modern navigation can hardly sustain a direct sea voyage across the Suvan for land-dwellers, traders from Syliras tend to hug the coast of Cyphrus for a point of reference. For merchants on the way to Alvadas, they often use Fang Isle as a destination point and landmark to tell which direction to head in to help them on their way. The current route often takes them from Neemi to Fang, with the few days in between filled with prayers to Laviku that they reach their destination within good parameters. While it is not nearly as widespread as the Svefra superstition, trader sailors do on occasion make an offering to Laviku upon seeing Fang Isle as a thanks for the direct voyage.
However, this predictable behavior has led to another purpose for Fang Isle beside superstition and landmark. The size of the island has never been exactly measured, but it is large enough to hide a few large ships or several slightly smaller ones. This fact is taken advantage of often. As a trader vessel draws near the isle, it is not unlikely for them to see a small movement somewhere along the top of the rocks, maybe a head ducking down. It isn't until the multiple casinors and palivars come speeding from behind the island that most people realize their mistake. Pirating Svefra pods are familiar with the currents around Fang Isle, and can swoop down on unsuspecting targets and leave before even five chimes have passed. As such, the island has also become an impromptu gathering point for pirate pods who seek to take advantage of the natural cover.
When all is said and done, there is not much left of the actual island to talk about. The uneven and jutting rock is completely unsuitable for construction of any scale, and the lack of other materials on it means that it has little value to land on. Only watchers for the pirate pods ever land on it, and since the rocks around the island makes a dangerous shallow for a couple metres out swimming is the best method.
