Sex: Female Race: Human Age: 32 Pronunciation: had-inn Birth Date: Day 25, Fall, 486. Birthplace: Syliras Profession: Smith at Sultros Blades
We'll be dressed up all in grey, With metal on our tongues, And silver in our lungs Hadyn is a woman of 5'9", athletic in her build if not somewhat slender. While her profession often calls for muscle she does not possess, the smith is exceptionally strong for her slim frame. Her arms are well muscled to accommodate a hammer, though not disproportionate to her overall figure. Strong legs from years of equestrian activities are well balanced by gently curving hips, a lean torso, and full, albeit moderately sized breasts. The faintest of freckles blanket her shoulders, more apparent than those on her face.
Hadyn's skin is fair, tanning coppery in the sun and rosy with embarrassment. Her hair is a rich mahogany, the occasional locks highlighted with auburn and chestnut hues. For the most part the tresses are wavy in nature, cut to hang at her shoulder blades and usually braided and kept away from her face. She has warm brown eyes and dark lashes, the brows above fairly straight with only the slightest arch. Her features are pleasing with a thin nose and lightly tinted lips. A strong jawline and high cheekbones often give Hadyn a perturbed if not cross appearance, though a quick smile all but remedies such thoughts.
Hadyn holds herself with the presence of a woman who is both comfortable and confident in her skin. She wears her emotions on her sleeve, quick to smile and quicker to scowl. Her insecurities manifest in personality, anxiety over her physical appearance diminished with maturity.
There are dark scars on her arms and small burns on her hand from mishaps with the furnace. A narrow and uneven scar runs from the bottom of left scapula diagonal across her back, crossing her spine and terminating several inches below the right shoulder blade. The woman wears inexpensive clothes, opting between a servant's shift or breeches and a tunic, depending on her work. On occasion she can be caught in a dress, though it bears the mark of age, the homespun material simple beside the finer fashion of Syliras' streets. More often than not she can be seen in calf-length boots of deerskin or rough leather. Aside from a silver band on her right index finger Hadyn sports no other form of jewelry.
Cause she's just like the weather, can't hold her together
Most certainly an introvert Hadyn Skellig tends to mind her own business, keeping her mouth shut unless necessary. That is not to say she is submissive or meek, but rather uninterested in involving herself with others' affairs. For those that have earned her companionship she is fiercely and unequivocally loyal. She takes great pride in her capabilities in smithing and her place at Sultros Blades, though she has learned it is more effective to prove one's worth in action rather than words. Hadyn can be exceptionally stubborn, which has led to foolhardy and rash decisions in her past and (sometimes) present. Though not typically hot headed she has been known to argue her point doggedly and, on rare occasions, resort to fisticuffs - especially if under the influence. She does not make friends quickly but she is also relatively easy going. Hadyn does have a penchant for drinking, though she tries to maintain a somewhat inconspicuous space in the tavern. She enjoys wit and clever humor, finding herself more comfortable with the hard working folk of Syliras. She holds quiet disdain for the elite but has learned to keep such feelings to herself.
The woman tends to speak her mind with ease and doesn't suffer the disingenuous long. Her penchant for dark and dry humor has been known to rub others the wrong way, though she often means well. In the case of enticing the opposite sex the blacksmith is most comfortable with alcohol in hand and a grin. She's not one to entertain games or play hard to get. Her approach to men is frank and candid, unashamed in pursuing a man but unconcerned if it does not work out. Sexually Hadyn is aggressive and confident, comfortable in her skin and capabilities in bed. While she does not like the idea of a long-term partner, she will often return to certain men and prefers to keep relationships amicable outside of the bedroom.
Hadyn tends to stick to her conviction, self assured in most things. She does not mind playing second string to others. Indeed she is most often content watching a scene unfold before asserting herself in the situation. She tends to choose her words carefully and is fairly decent in the art of observation - though she has been known to make mistakes on that account. She has been described as bold and blunt, a horrible liar and an even poorer singer. She can dance whilst intoxicated and enjoys intellectual pursuits, despite rarely having the opportunity to do so.
And I am done with my graceless heart, so tonight I'm gonna cut it out and then restart Hadyn's birth and childhood was nothing short of ordinary. Her father was a blacksmith of some regard and her mother was a seamstress. They lived a modest life in Syliras, rearing four children - three boys, Liam, Ioan, Brody and a little girl. Both parents were away more than they were present so young Hadyn spent a great deal of time in her brothers' care. From them she learned the values of speaking one's mind and the necessary usage of fisticuffs.
Around the age of eleven Hadyn's parents caught ill, passing away within a year of each other. It was a heavy blow to the family, sending the two elder boys into early employment to support their siblings. Hadyn tagged along with her oldest brother to the weaponsmith where he was apprenticing. She learned through quiet observation at first - the idea of a girl learning the art of smithing somewhat laughable. But as her creativity and determination displayed itself, her brother's master blacksmith took her under his tutelage as well.
Brody, the brother closest to her in age departed at the age of twenty-two, off on some caravan adventure to Zeltiva. He sent letters occasionally but Hadyn hasn't heard from him in seven years. The middle brother, Ioan, married young and relocated to Ravok with his seafaring wife. Liam, the head of the Skellig family, worked with Hadyn at Sultros Blades up until his unfortunate demise in 509. It was about that time Hadyn met Tobias.
Tobias was ten years her senior, charming and gregarious where she was quiet and introverted. He introduced himself as a friend of the late Liam. Attracted to his immediate concern for the loss of her beloved brother, gullible grieving Hadyn was roped into a relationship that was neither healthy nor realistic. Claiming to have more wealth than he truly possessed Tobias romanced her into agreeing to marry him. It wasn't until a season before their wedding that the man's plan unraveled. Through a series of circumstances Hadyn discovered Tobias' true nature and deceit. She severed all ties from him and effectively removed the notion of romantic love from her future. Tobias still resides in Syliras though she refuses to acknowledge him.
Hardening herself against folk like him Hadyn turned instead to noncommittal relationships with men that didn't ask for her time or her heart. Though she does accept the concept of love and the institution of marriage she prefers her lifestyle to the potential of another disastrous relationship.
