58th Day
Spring 513 AV

The day had not gone entirely how Scarlet had wished, but in the end, she couldn't really complain. It was the third person she had driven away out of her innate curiosity. Nonetheless, she got what she wanted. A rumor spread throughout town that a band Svefra had gathered north of the city, preparing for some great battle. Scarlet had never really known much about the Svefra, but rumor went they would be battling a fearsome pirate. This was enough to awaken Scarlet's spirit of adventure.

That evening, she walked out of town, leading her footsteps to the campfires lit on the beach. People were talking, activity briming everywhere. It almost felt exciting, had the atmosphere not been so grim amongst the rest of the people. It was the first time she saw a gathering of this magnitude. Almost made her wonder how big a fleet of pirates they were going to be up against. However, she figured the Svefra could use her basic skills in unnarmed combat and her ability to scout as an eagle.

"Um..." Scarlet started, approaching a group of sailors. For one of the few times in her life to be lost for words, this was certainly not a good one. "Is this where the fleet to hunt down the pirate is assembling?" Certainly not your day, Scarlet. If they stare too much, just turn around and walk away.

OOC: If accepted, I would like Scarlet to get some training in unarmed combat

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Kirin on March 20th, 2013, 2:58 pm

58th Day
Spring 513 AV

Kirin's face screwed up briefly, getting the better of him, before he forced it back to a blank expression. He wasn't sure what he had expected, but the gathering groups of all kinds was almost enough to convince him to leave. People of all makes and experience had gathered here and began to talk, spar, or just sit in each other's company. Could it have gotten any more unfriendly for him?

In all fairness, Kirin had only learned of this company hours earlier. Several loud and rowdy groups had passed him by in the marketplace this morning. It was all but impossible, from their carrying on, not to understand what they were going on about. Still, for once, Kirin almost wished himself born deaf. He had been conflicted from the moment he heard about the great quest, a conflict with a long dead ghost that still haunted him.

There could be no worse fit for the antisocial smith, but his father's wishes still rung deep in his soul. If he was ever going to shed the trappings he loved more than anything, he would have to start somewhere. This was a test, in more ways than one. Could he make a life outside his norm, or would he retreat back to the hammer and anvil? Right now, every fibre begged him to retreat, but he would not dishonour the dead, even if he had never seen eye to eye with them in life.

His face flushed slightly as the heat of one of the closer camp fires set upon it. Just on the other side a small group stood, admiring weapons of various types and builds. There was little the lanky smith felt for this gathering, but he felt an immediate kinship here. Not to the men and women, of course, but to the weapons. His defined and hardened arms longed to run over every inch of the weapons, to usher out their secrets and nobility. There was no greater calling than learning the secrets of a great weapon, learning new techniques of the forge.

No, he wasn't here for that. He had to try and remember the real reasons he was here. The crafted staff he always carried with him tapped impatiently against the ground as he stopped in front of the group. His dulled blue eyes, on more than one occasion, falling to the weapons instead of looking them in the face, "I'm here about joining the group for the hunt I heard of."

His voice was colder than it should have been, but it was shear willpower that had brought him this far as he continued, "I may not look like much, but I think I can handle myself and I'm willing to learn if you'll have me."

OOCKirin has a little skill with the staff and would welcome more training or even training in a one-handed sword if accepted. I don't know if he really fits in well, but I figured I'd try.

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Kreig

The Svefra laughed boisterously at Kreig's insistence on remaining uptight and formal, especially with the polite excuse for his cursing, clapping one of his large hands on the squire's shoulder. "That is why I asked, land-dweller. We thought of this beforehand, and Lisette is more than willing to help any of you Sylirans learn what to do in the case you fall overboard." Pointing with his cutlass to a group of folk in the surf, the Svefra gave Kreig another clap of encouragement on the back. "She's over there, teaching some other land-dwellers the basics in the sea. Just avoid gawking and you'll do just fine." With that, the warrior returned to his sparring, metal flashing in the sun.

Lucy

The woman smiled, adding another couple wrinkles to the few already on her face. "I'm sure I can help you learn dear. This body might not be as young as it once was, but I assure you my mind is as sharp as ever. We'll see if we can't teach a strong woman like you to use a cutlass." Her eyes grew a bit cloudy at the mention of refusing her advice. "Names are less important to the people they belonged to, and we are all children of Laviku. If one passes, then the others must stick ever closer together."

With a shake of her head, almost as if she were shaking the thoughts out of her mind, the Lia smiled again. "I know he is, he's the one who helped start this brave venture. Well, it will be some time before the other warriors start to freshen themselves, so feel free to wander around dear. You're among family at this camp. Lisette will be teaching the Sylirans to swim soon, so if you're looking for something to do." Nodding, the woman's gaze returned to the fire before her, absorbed and in her own mind.

Matthias

Looking up from her weapon, the young woman's blue eyes glared into his for a split second before softening, not at the philterer's limp but rather at the passing of a hateful memory. Blue eyes looked into his own with purpose as she sheathed her blade, turning to face him fully. "I know little about medical practices," she stated fully, "but we have a few medics among ourselves. As for facility, we have a boat. I don't know how much of our people you're aware of, but we do not have the same workspace that you have in the city. Our hospital is a single palivar, our offices our casinors."

Her words finished, she pointed over to the far side of camp, where a small handful of men and women sat gathered around a small campfire. "Those are our medics," she told Matthias. "They've been doing this on the sea since they were born, using their knowledge of the sea culture to devise their own solutions. We are grateful for the help, but we do not need you to tell us whether are 'facilities' are up to par. Our own medics will let us know if otherwise."

OOCI still need to get a thread up for you, but I'll try to do so soon after stting up some group threads. Also need to do some research on medical practices, I've not a clue what they do. :paranoid:

Shiress

Shiress had approached a man who was relaxing on the beach, a wooden sword on the ground beside him. A lean face swiveled up to meet Shiress' introduction, a mad gleam entering his sea-colored eyes while a grin crept across his face. As she spoke, the stocky lad shifted on the sand and stood up to match her height. "Medical skill?" he asked rhetorically, that mad grin in his voice. "Well, we'll certainly be needing that. The big guy should be able to help you out, hear he got another Syliran doctor as well. As for weapons training, I might be able to help with that. First things first though, I'll introduce you to the one you want to talk to about, um, medicine and stuff I guess."

With that, he began strutting quickly across the beach, leading Shiress to the open blue she'd seen so much of.

OOCIt's up to you whether you want to start with combat training or medicinal practice. Either way I'll try to get a thread set up for you as well, let you decide IC.

Scarlet

The ring of Svefra that the Kelvic had come across were in the middle of preparing one of the meals for the warriors who thwacked and clashed at each other across the beach. As seemed to be custom for cooks most paid the external distraction no heed, but the nearest one took notice. An older man whose eyes told stories without words smiled at the young woman. "It is, and what you see here is the fleet itself as well as those who will be manning it. Though calling it a fleet makes it sound so formal. I'm a bit busy here, but if you would like to try sparring just pick up a weapon and ask someone who's free. Or you can talk to our Lia over there if you want something more specific." A tan finger pointed at an older blonde woman with her cutlass out and in front of her, fending off the blows of a younger girl's blade. Before Scarlet could reply, the old man returned to his cooking, the stranger already out of his mind.

OOCYour choice whether you want to join the general sparring thread with Kirin or take the modded thread with the Lia. PM me if the latter.

Kirin

At the edge of the sea of clashing warriors stood one group lording over the spare weapons they'd gathered, running whetstones over the edge of the metal ones in preparation for more abuse as well as those that were being set aside for true battle. One of them looked up, sizing up the lad before him, before giving him a lopsided grin and offering up the blade he'd been sharpening. "Take this to one of the warriors on rest and prove it," he said, a hint of a challenge in his voice. "Show us that you can use that stick for more the just drumming." The hilt of the cutlass was nothing special save for the crossguard, which wove back and forth in a fashion. Whether Kirin took the blade or not, the Svefra would quickly forget about the land-dweller and retuen to his task, running his whetstone over another blade.

OOCUp to you entirely whether you take the blade or not, but expect a bit more challenge if you decide to accept. :D If Scarlet decides to go to the general brawl too, I'll make sure to direct you two to each other.

There is a general sparring thread on the 58th in the Suvan Sea for those of you who want to join. For those of you who I've promised moderated threads to I will get those up as soon as I can, but things are busy so please be patient.

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Matthias Kyras on March 23rd, 2013, 2:23 am

OOC Edit: Sorry to do this but I'm going to be retiring the character. So you can disregard my posts here. Sorry to inconvenience you.

Matthias grunted in response to the woman's answer and limped off in the direction of the medics she had indicated towards. He didn't feel insulted or bristle at her answer, it didn't matter to him. The fact that their hospital was on a ship didn't surprise him in the least, he could only hope that these medics possessed experience in philtering as well as medicine. If not he would be severely disappointed. That warrior seemed to speak highly of them but Matthias was ever the skeptic.

He approached the group of medics quickly enough, his narrow eyes looking over the men and women around the fire.

"I am here to volunteer for this voyage, I can bring competent medical skills and philtering to the table. Who among you is the senior medic?" Matthias asked gruffly, leaning on his cane more than usual.

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Azcadelia on March 23rd, 2013, 11:56 pm

Azcadelia | 55th Day of Spring | 513

Azcadelia had finally found the time to travel to the Suvan Sea - after much dily-dallying. She had overheard - eavesdropped, rather - on a conversation of two patrons in a tavern that there was an war party brewing on the coast; so, with graceful elegance, she booked her schedule to come to the beach and seek out the party.

Finally arriving on the far shore, a couple miles from the beach, she made her way to join the party. There were fires and a number of residents already, among those she noticed someone she had seen before: Lucy, from The Rearing Stallion. Lucy was slightly intoxicated that day and Azcadelia remembered the woman being not so fond her... at that moment anyway.

She came into the camp and greeted some of the Svefras with wave and friendly smile. In return, she was greeted with odd looks, smiles and some oogling. The odd locks most likely came from her appearance, all she had on her person was a small satchel, slung across her shoulder and laying by her waist - that she had stolen from a drunken patron in the tavern - and a flowing silver robe that almost glimmered in the fire's twinkle.

Azcadelia truly was the fighting type her hot headed way and Reimancy use was what made her fit the role. She was a combat mage and nothing more.
OOCAzcadelia is a fire Reimancy user and would like to learn healing magics or barrier magic and dagger combat.

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Ethen Calden on March 24th, 2013, 12:08 pm

51st Day of Spring in the year of 513 AV

After a heated argument with his parents,  Ethen Calden finally convinced his mother and father to go on the pirate hunting quest and join the party on the northern shore's beach of Syliras. Carrying with Ethen, was his backpack and his Greatsword in Scabbard that he was carried on his back as well. Ethen walked for sometime from the city seeing the rare sites of nature and the creatures that inhabited the forest without danger of being ambushed by highway men. The sun was at it's highest point in the sky when Ethen got to the the beach and saw the camp of the questing party. As Ethen walked though the camp seeing man and women doing they daily business. Ethen soon found the signup tent and walked in.

In the tent was very simple, it had a table and chair with, what was seemed was the leader of the party sitting at the table. Ethen approach the leader and said "Hello, I'm Ethen Calden of son of Ser Abarden Calden and Sera Calina Calden and I hope to join this party, I have strength to help heavy lifting, knowing how to fight and I know how basic Fratava".

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Anchor on March 25th, 2013, 5:45 am

Azcadelia

While the majority of the looks were simple curiosity and interest, a good number of them were wary glances cast at the woman who was so obviously a mage. While some of the Svefra pods themselves used magic, they were few and far between as the superstitious seafarers generally held such practices under suspicion. Since magic was a lost art to much of the world, the unfamiliarity among the Svefra made it a very scrutinized art with the only exceptions being their own kin, and even then they only just avoided being the scapegoats of a few difficult things on the sea.

Fortunately, before the red-headed magician wandered too far without a Svefra escort, which among the paranoid blue-eyed sailors bred even more distyrust, she was approached by someone else who knew of the magical arts and knew that it would be safer the sooner she was among those Svefra simiar to her in the use of djed. A man whose clothes draped longer and more decoratively than any warrior's approached the land-dweller and grinned.

"Quite bold to strut in here all dressed up and showy," he chuckled, blue-eyes bristling with a tense amusement. "Perhaps you should follow me before you garner too much suspicion from my brethren." Promptly he turned around and sped the way he came, leading the newcomer to where she would be less openly looked at.

OOCI'll write a thread up for you in the coming days, so you can reply there rather than here. I'll do my best to teach you some magics, but just as a cultural note the Svefra are indeed quite superstitious and unless you're looking for some tension (which you may well be) I advise you stick among those who also use their djed. :D

Ethen

Inside the tent were only a few of the Svefra, them being a people who preferred the open beach or their boats to the flimsy shelters. At the head was an aging woman yet not so much weakened as wizened by her years. Her pale blonde hair was tied back so as to not get into her eyes, the sign of both a veteran sailor and - when off the boats - a warrior. In her blue eyes glinted not only the sun on the waves but also the flash of steel, a look that her age did nothing to dull. It was the same woman that had greeted Lucy earlier that day, though that held no meaning or significance to the land-dwelling man yet.

She listened to his satisfactory Fratava with patient ears but replied in Common, so that he may better understand. "Thank you for your help Calden," she replied with fluency that came with her interaction with traders and citizens of the city. "I'm one of the Lias leading these people, Lia Deepseeker to be precise. If you are to help with what you call 'heavy lifting' though, you must first understand how our boats sail. I assume you do not know much if you are from the city, so unless you object I will help teach you on my own palivar. If you could wait outside for a chime though, I must first discuss something with my kin."

OOCExpect yours in a few days, I'm really sorry about the delay but I'm on vacation and have everyone else to attend to. XP I'll write up an individual thread for you so you don't have to reply here, I will put up a starter for you instead.
Will be gone for a couple days, grades need lifting

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Fubuki Kouri on April 6th, 2013, 3:45 pm

Fubuki Kouri

55th Day of Spring, 19th of Bell, 513 AV

The sea... huh? Hmmm.. why would I need a boat? I can just float above wate- Oh yeah! Master is a human, so he needs one, ehehehe~ Kouri, the gothic lolita ghost girl, giggled at her own thought as she made her way to the camp located at the northern shore of Syliras. She and her master, Cyrus Blackfire, planned to join the expedition as it would be a very prime opportunity to hone both of their skills.

As she strolled through the camp, Hmmm... Master told me to.. go to the sign-up tent first so... her undead eyes looked all around her and she spotted a rather particular tent. "Ehehe~ That must be it~" Kouri giggled as she floated her way through the camp, passing through people and sailors along the way.

Kouri entered the tent through the side, phasing through the fabric, it was one of her favorite ghostly abilities, to be able to phase through corporeal objects. As she entered, some minor effects indicating her ghostly presence immediately can be felt, such as the slight chilling of the room.

"U-uhm, hello~ Uuuh..." She approached the most important-looking person in her vicinity and spoke to the person, lifting the hem of her dress slightly and bowing as she did so "Uhm... I'm Fubuki Kouri, ehehe~, I would like to join the party along with my master, Cyrus Blackfire... uhm, he should be here soon~"

OOCKouri would like to learn all 3 of Ghosts' primary skills. Possession, Soulmist Projection, and Materialization. But, I would like to focus on Possession and Soulmist Projection

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Cyrus Blackfire on April 6th, 2013, 9:41 pm

55th Day of Spring, 20th of Bell, 513 AV

Cyrus was a smart man, at least that was what he liked to think. As such he knew that power was often gained from many sources and that only fools ignored opportunities to increase their influence. The Svefra were a powerful people who possessed a significant advantage over most land faring races, their ships. They would no doubt eventually fall into his plans, as such it was a good idea to get better acquainted with the sea faring people, this expedition seemed like an excellent opportunity to do so.

He walked through the sea of tents, a little lost at the moment. The warrior had sent Kouri ahead to sign herself on, hopefully she hadn't mentioned his name. It would be much more strategically valuable to him if she didn't give away that she was loyal to him, so that if push came to shove it would be surprising when she attacked from within. It would also allow them to move much more freely, though if she did let he loyalties be known it wouldn't set them back over much.

The warrior was clad, as usual in his banded mail armor and had his greatsword strapped across his back. He decided to simply sign on as a warrior, if people didn't expect his reimancy it would be a hidden weapon just in case. It was a handicap but it was for the best, Svefra were known to be suspicious of magic.

Cyrus approached a nearby warrior, a friendly smile on his face.

"Excuse me, sir, I was looking to sign on with this expedition. I can offer my blade and I have experience leading small groups of men." Cyrus said.

Hopefully this man could point him in the right direction.

OOCI would like some training in leadership, swimming, and swordplay for my greatsword and shortsword.

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Akilia Dosert on April 7th, 2013, 3:30 am

Akilia
55th of Spring, 15 of Bell 513 AV

What's going on over there? A festival? Is there food? Akilia tied Cinnamon to a post before walking, through the camp gawking and oohing and ahhing at everything in sight. She'd placed about everything she owned into Cinnamon's ssaddlebags before they came here Akilia not trusting her pony or possesions to be stolen by the time she got back to the Bronze Woods.
Ginger, her energetic dog circled her feet as the girl walked nearly tripping her a more than few times.
Akilia didn't really notice she was too busy gazing around at all the wonders around her. "Look there's a flute, Ginger!" Akilia squealed dashing over to it. It was wooden just like the one she'd seen Maximilian playing in the woods so many many days ago. Ginger gave out a loud bark, as if saying "its so neat!" Akilia nodded in agreement and rubbed the happy dog on her head right between her floppy ears. She'd bought Ginger at Syliras from an snobby merchant and they'd been inseparable ever since.

She moved on taking a look at some weapons scattered about and thought about her own dagger in its sheath at her side. She pulled it out and looked at it. "I haven't practiced much with you have I?" She asked it and grinned. She gave it a few miserably awful swings almost gutting herself with it and falling down.

"Gods damn it I suck." She muttered looking at her dagger sulking. Ginger pranced over and plopped a bit sloppy kiss on the girls cheek and gave Akilia a lopsided cheerful grin. That threw Akilia into some giggles, "okay, okay. Maybe we can find someone to teach me how to use it or something. Once you don't succeed try, try again." Ginger barked in what Akilia translated as agreement as she got to her feet.

The small girl wore her plain jane simple gray blue shirt, dark blue pants, black sturdy well worn boots and a snug black cloak.A simple green backpack was slung over her shoulder filled with various things as well. She sheathed her dagger and looked around for someone. "Maybe I can train you to hunt or guard or something. I've been trying to get you to fetch for the longest time you know but you refuse to do so." Akilia told Ginger as they walked. Ginger tilted her head then shook it. "No? Never? Awe why not?" Akilia asked placing a hand on the dog's head as they walked. It came in handy that she was fluent in canine, she could talk to Ginger whether she was in her Kelvic wolf form or in her human one. Ginger raised her eyebrow...well if it was possible for a dog to do that this one did. Then the dog's head snapped straight ahead ears forward.

Following Ginger's gaze, she spotted a woman a little bit ahead and she headed towards the woman quickly catching up with her. "Excuse me misses, but do you know if I could have the incredible opportunity to join this...um...whatever this is?" She paused racking her brain for some of her meager skills. "I can do practically anything if taught correctly, I tend to catch on fast and can do a bit of unarmed combat." Akilia said in her best little girl polite voice, flashing a smile. The girl nudged her dog who sat as if knowing what her friend wanted.

OOCI would like Akilia to work with her dagger and learn how to wield it, I would also like a bit of animal husbandry to train Ginger, acting if possible as well as unarmed combat. Swimming of course and any other valuable hand to hand fighting skills.
