Kaska smirked as he ran his fingers through his hair. He eyed Baldur. "Much as I'd love to see that fat old pirate run down the street with crows attacking him every which way, we homeless wanderers have a saying. Don't burn a bridge you haven't built yet. That is; don't strike first without needing to." he told her, yawning and scratching his scalp. "Besides, Baldur's been good to me in the past. Come on. We might as well go say hi." he stepped over the pile of rags and picked up his mace and pack.

He walked across the road and sat down at the stall, meeting Baldur's smirk. "I thought your female clients didn't like going back to that rag pile you call a bed." Baldur said. He picked up a pair of dirty glasses and filled them with the nondescript brown liquid within. Kaska knew the man just took all the dregs out of bar glasses and bottled the stuff, meaning it was a mixture of whiskey, vodka, several types of cocktail from the gambling halls, and a lot of backwash. Kaska noticed a dead beetle floating in his drink.
"Thought I might have breakfast with you." Baldur smirked, his eyes roving over Leith. "Can I interest you in a drink little lady?" he picked up a third semi-clean glass and poured her one. "Old uncle Baldur doesn't bite."

"She's not a whore." Kaska grunted at him, downing the beetle before he lost the nerve to take advantage of the extra protein. "I brought her over here so I could ask you a favour."
"Any favour you like." Baldur's eyes were still affixed on Leith.
"She's not the favour. What you'll get is me and you can deal with that or not. I need Enoch's training equipment. I can't go back there, he'd put a bolt through my eye. I know you and he are still friends." Kaska said, his voice turning cold until Baldur turned his attention back to him.

"The chest? In your alley? Asking for a fight...I can get it from Enoch, he drinks enough from me, but you sure you want me to stick that thing there? If he sees it he really will kill you." Baldur said a bit nervously.
"I'll worry about what Enoch will do. You get the chest. I can't drag the stupid thing anyway." Kaska muttered into his drink. "And before you ask, you'll get your treat when I put her out on a job."
Baldur leaned on the bar, looking at Leith. "What's a pretty thing like you wanting to be a pickpocket for?" he asked.

She kept an eye on the stranger, but eyed Kaska’s drink, she’d never seen something such a weird color. When the stranger was warned away from her she turned her mismatched gaze on him studying him carefully. The old man then turned to talk to her directly, she tilted her head her blue eye slightly more in focus as her dark hair put her dark eye in shadow. “Kaska says you are an ally, as for what he’s teaching me? Its useful, its good to learn useful things. Am I really pretty? He said the same of me too, but he’s right, I’m not learning more than how to steal. My name…is Leith Mournlith, its nice to meet you mister Baldur.”

The sunlight glinted off the bottles and she eyed them, she liked the way the bottles were different colors. “Its pretty… I don’t have anything to pay you, you sure I can try some?” Her eyes flicked back to Baldur’s curious “I could clean something to pay you, make the bottles more pretty.”

Her words might lead one to believe she was simple, one of those who were not quite all right in the head. Yet her gaze wasn’t like a child’s, her eyes bright missing hardly anything, secrets lurked in her eyes. Her mouth had lines speaking that she smiled a lot, her mismatched gaze bright and expressive. There was a wildness to them that wasn’t seen in humans, something to how she moved that also told of a hint of feralness. Sometimes she found that she made humans uneasy when they paid attention to her, she wondered if this stranger would get antsy too.

"Oh you're pretty little bird, don't ever question that." Baldur smirked, showing her a wide grin of browned teeth. "You could pay me with work. I've definitely got something that needs polishing." he purred, sliding his hand closer. A loud crack was heard and Baldur yanked his reddened hand back with a howl of pain. Kaska had brought the ironwood haft of the mace down on his wrist so fast he'd barely seen it.

"I said, I'll pay you. For Enoch's tools and for the drinks. By the way...don't drink that." Kaska put his hand over her drink and poured it into his glass. "If you really want to try it, I'll let you, but this stuff's strong and I don't want to be teaching a drunk girl how to steal." Kaska added as an afterthought, taking a swig of it. Baldur rubbed his hand, looking at Kaska reproachfully.
"I'd never hurt her, you know that. Just taking the piss..." the bartender protested.

"I'll believe it when I see it. I remember when I was younger and you could barely keep your paws off me. Not like Enoch ever stopped you either and I know from experience you aren't gentle once you get your pants off. I'm telling you to quit your bad manners when it comes to her." Kaska said with a scowl, replacing the mace on his back. "Got it?"
Baldur nodded and sighed, wringing out his wrist. "Fine, fine. I'll get you your training equipment by mid afternoon." he muttered. "It's going to bruise you know...how am I going to serve drinks with one hand?"

"You'll figure it out." Kaska downed his and slid off the stool.

Leith tilted her head when the old man had purred at her amused, but grinned mischievously when he got punished. She turned her head to look at Kaska then picked up his cup sniffing what was in it, she jerked her head back startled by the smell. Her eyes flicked to both men and she took a cautious sip, but wrinkled her nose making a face at the taste. “I don’t think I’ll wanna ever drink that stuff, am amazed I still have a tongue. Kaska is it on fire? I think its on fire or being eaten by ants, that is something scary lurking in your cup. More scary than your monster.”

She turned to look at Baldur grinning wickedly “You know what birds do to worms right? Don’t think you wanna go letting little birds like me eye your worm, it might get pecked off.”

As innocent as she was about certain human doings, she knew enough about their anatomy, especially after seeing Kaska. She made a wicked joke, but the gleam in her eyes said she would make good on it if he tried anything she didn’t want. As if to drive the point home she tapped her nails on the table, they gleamed showing she took care of them and one could never doubt she could use them. While she didn’t look like a street rat, it would be clear that she was at home in Kaska’s company and something very unique. Even as she went back to studying the things around her that mischievous light didn’t go from her eyes, it always got just a tad brighter when she would go back to studying Baldur.

Kaska chuckled as she examined his drink. "Well there's a reason we call it firewater. It's about the cheapest stuff you can buy around here." he said, smirking and rolling his shoulder. It was a habit due to the heavy nature of the mace. He saw Baldur smirk at her until she made the comment about pecking his worm off. Kaska threw back his head and laughed at the threat heartily, even more so to see Baldur colour and mutter something about Kaska ruining girls.

"You two teasing an old man half-blind with smoke and age...I'd like to see your cock when it shrivels up between your legs, Kaska...stop laughing!" Baldur snapped.
Kaska grinned hugely, unable to stop the smile splitting his face. He looked at Leith, elbowing her conspiratorially. "He's got a small worm too, wasn't any effort at all. I've fallen asleep before." he whispered loudly, seeing Baldur's face purple.
"Get out of here you two!" Baldur snapped at them, picking up a ratty bar rag and throwing it at Kaska, who quite easily dodged it with a laugh.

She grinned watching the rag fly and turned to the old man “I hope you don’t be too mad, but can you save me your blue bottle when it gets empty? It’ll make a pretty treasure, never seen blue like that, I’ll find something nice to give you in trade if you want a worthy trade. Oh and as big as you are, I’m thinking it won’t be as easy as he says.”

It was a compliment even if she wasn’t really sure, if only to ease the sting from their teasing. Then she flashed Kaska a grin “Can we go catch some food now? I’m hungry and not” She smirked at Baldur “for worms.”

She hopped off the stool taking up a spot next to her red haired companion watching the people walk by. A shape fluttered on top of her head chortling, she clicked her tongue at it and shook her head, the raven flew of coughing its laughter at her. She watched it go amused, the young ones always liked to play. She looked over eyeing the blue bottle that gleamed so prettily, if she broke it she’d have lots of sharp pretty bits to play with. She didn't know that the whole bottle could easily be worth a whole copper, to her it was pretty valuable merely for its blue color. Others would see it as trash, but to a raven that coveted it, it was worth much more.

Kaska picked up the rag before it was trampled and tossed it back to Baldur. "Midafternoon, and not a second later." he told him, and Baldur waved his hand at him dismissively. Kaska smirked; Baldur would keep his word despite the teasing. In all of it, the bartender was getting laid as a reward, so he couldn't be too angry with Kaska. The catamite had always treated him well when they were alone. In public it was quite a different matter, and Kaska's mischievious nature was easily tripped off.

Baldur nodded to Leith. "I'll save the bottle for you pretty bird." he told her, wiping his hands with the rag then going to clean their glasses with it. Even Kaska could see the glasses were coming out dirtier than they were going in. The catamite smirked and jerked his head down the road.
"Come on, let's not tease him. I have a few coins, let's get some real breakfast." he led her down the road. Street stalls sold everything here as shops were too easily burned down. Street stalls could be wheeled out of danger and shut down quickly if a fire started. Their only disadvantage, it seemed, was competition. The streets were thick with them. Kaska passed by stalls selling clothing, jewelry, and headed toward a tent he was rather fond of. It was a large one, with two long tables inside for patrons and a grill at one corner of the tent. It was smoky inside, but the food smelled wonderful. It seemed they were serving breakfast at the moment, for most of the diners were eating large plates of eggs, bacon, sausages and toast.

Kaska went to the front and ordered them a big meal. He had money at the moment, and with a few silvers he brought back large plates for them. He set down a plate of eggs, fruit and bacon for her and placed his nest to hers. "It's good, so savor it. A lot easier than cooking yourself." he told her.

She studied the plate taking in the smells then set to devouring it, she savored each new bite loving the flavors. She eyed the thick finger things dubiously looking at Kaska raising an eyebrow “Um…”

Considering her serious joke she couldn’t help thinking the worst of the stuff, she scooted it to the edge of her plate waiting for him to notice. The orange squishy stuff she’d save for last since it tasted interesting, but everything else she scarfed up eagerly. She wanted to ask him what all everything was, but didn’t think he’d like drawing eyes from the people around them. “So where we gunna go now?”

She would be perfectly happy returning home with him, but didn’t think he was planning on that happening. Still if they stayed in the city it meant snuggling up in his nest and she liked that quite fine too.

Kaska saw her push away the sausages and avoid the eggs. He smirked and picked up a sausage, biting into it wholeheartedly. "They're ground up pig. It's meat, not what you're thinking. I don't think there are that many small penises in this uniform of a size." he joked, waggling the sausage at her then gulping it down. "These are eggs." he lifted up a bite of scrambled egg on a fork. "Good hearty stuff. From chickens, not your kind." Kaska added, and resumed wolfing down his breakfast. Ah, the sun was up and his legs were closed. Today was a good day.

He scraped his plate clean of food, for the second day in a row he wouldn't go hungry. He smiled and leaned back in his chair, eyeing the men around the tent. He spotted a few clients and gathered come-hither looks. Kaska smirked and batted his eyes playfully at them. He couldn't afford to burn his bridges, but as far as he was concerned he was off work today.

She cleaned her plate down to the very last crumb, she knew of chickens, they were rather stupid birds. Their meat and eggs tasted very good, but when she was finished she also decided that human food made ones belly very warm. She usually just roasted her meat if she wanted something cooked, but this was far better. She didn’t like the humans that were watching them, but didn’t say, do or make any eye contact to or at them. It wasn’t any of her business and her companion needed those humans, so she let it be, but she hoped a day would come when he wouldn’t need their attentions. She hadn’t bonded with a human yet, she hoped she never would for this way she could go where she chose. She was told that bonding was the single best moment of their existence, but she wanted to do as she pleased and not at the whims of someone else. Yet, if she could she’d want to stay with Kaska.

She liked him, he was interesting. Yes, he could be rough, mean and sharp, but he had a good heart. So far he was also protective keeping the old man from her, not that she couldn’t teach him a lesson if need be. Her red headed fledgling was the first of his kind she spent time with, even the apple seller couldn’t claim as much from her. She saw eyes looking to her, the same look in their eyes the man named Baldur had, she realized it was desire. Inwardly it turned her cold, she didn’t like them, didn’t want them touching her. Yet each one saw her with Kaska and made assumptions, not that she’d leave her friend because of it, but it unsettled her inside. She’d show no weakness, but made note of each of their faces so she could be wary. She’d not seen the look in their eyes in Kaska’s golden gaze, she wondered if that was because of what he did. He hated doing what he had to do, maybe he didn’t allow himself to see others as they saw him.

He had described it as painful and evil, was it? Yet that same thing had brought about her existence from her parents and she knew they had liked it enough to have other children. She wondered if it was different with one who one chose as a mate, not that she’d ask anyone. If she ever chose a male she’d find out, but for now she was content to be free and without someone to nest with.
