Kaska enjoyed the looks. He knew the ones from his clients were because he'd taken care of himself the past few days. Clean shaven, with his hair a bright scarlet and his gold eyes shining brightly with health from the rich food. He felt good, attractive, and he raised his head a little higher on his elegant, ivory neck. He and Leith were both being looked at, and it felt good to be looked at with genuine desire as opposed to simple cold lust. Instead of just being a warm body, something someone actually wanted. It made him preen and eat a little more delicately, his mischievious side coming out.

He plucked an apple from the pile of fruit on the table and ran the flat of his tongue up it slowly, his clean teeth biting delicately into the fruit. He batted his eyes at one of the men travelling back to his seat. The man locked eyes with him, stared as Kaska flicked the stem with the tip of his tongue, and promptly ran into another man. Eggs and sausage rained down in the aisle as both men went down sharply.

Kaska laughed and stood up, looking at Leith. He finished the apple with a few bites and threw the core in the midst of the two men on the floor. "Goodbye boys." he told them, lifting his hand in a finger wave. That had felt good. He hadn't been able to do that in a while.

Her mismatched eyes watched her companion and she smiled amused, at least he was enjoying himself. While she didn’t really understand all of the looks her friend was milking it for all its worth. She decided it wasn’t unlike a young male dancing around showing his stuff to attract a female. She of course had no need to fluff her feathers, it wasn’t necessary for her to do any work to attract anyone.

So she ignored the looks she was given, she didn’t even really want them trying, but she enjoyed the playfulness of her friend. She smirked gently poking him in the ribs as she was behind them to move out of the tent, once outside she danced out of reach grinning at him. “You silly males all fluffing feathers, betcha can’t keep up with me even in this city fox hair. Wasn’t a fair chase before, wanna see if its different this time?”

His mood was catching, her eyes flashing with anticipation of a bit of fun. Now that she had a full belly she was getting restless and wanted to do something to get her blood pounding.

Kaska grinned and stretched as they left the small outdoor restaurant. They'd caused a bit of a ruckus, and it was a bit dangerous taunting known criminals with a bit of tail. But once he cornered them they would be twice as passionate, and he could charge twice as much. He smiled and looked over at Leith. "First one to the alley wins. You know my markers, just don't go beyond them." he said with a mischievious smile. "I'm a fast bastard through these streets, I warn you." he purred. "On your mark...get set....go!" he took off as fast as he could through the streets, his red hair billowing out behind him and tangling in the wind like a nest of snakes.

Kaska felt free, full of energy. He laughed like a child as he ran down the road, feeling much better and joyful about the world. He wasn't as dour when he had some food and freedom inside of him, and he would teach her until sunset. With his mood lifted he had a lot more patience for mistakes.

She bolted with him laughing, she leaped over a rubble pile in her path remembering the general vicinity of where they had come from. She finally got to see him smile, even if it wasn’t totally because of her, but in time he’d do so she was sure of it. She was lost in the moment hardly paying attention when a hand shot out from a corner jerking her off balance. So fast it was her teeth snapped together, but then she slammed in to a wall stunning her for a moment. Hands started reaching, she struggled a hand flashing and pain bringing spots to her eyes. One hand was smacked against the wall, the stranger’s face suddenly in hers, something wet and warm sliding along her face. Instinct kicked in then and she lunged her teeth clamping down on the stranger’s nose. He tried jerking back screaming, but that freed her hand and both ripped in to his face scratching over his eyes. She shoved lashing out with her hands again slamming his head in to the wall.

Over and over she did this till he slumped to the ground, she bolted not seeing the blood on the wall. Fear, her only memory she remembered of a safe place in the city being his alley. She made not a sound as she ran, but she soon stumbled in to the very place she was supposed to meet Kaska falling to the ground. She scrambled in to the corner curling in to the corner her back to the wall her eyes wide and terrified. Every sound scared her, every smell alien to her, but the one thing that kept in her mind was that she had to stay quiet. The strangers face swam in her vision and tears ran down her face, she hurt, but dared not move.

Kaska laughed as he stopped in his alley, hands on his knees. "I beat you." he chuckled, lifting his head and brushing his hair out of his eyes. He had to admit he was surprised, even with the backpack and the mace he could defeat that sly little thing? A large grey steam trunk also met his eyes, meaning that Baldur had succeeded in getting the trunk away from Enoch. They could start her training, and he was in the perfect mood to do so. He grinned and was about to turn around to gloat over his victory, when she scrambled in and made straight for the corner. His good mood died then. He knew that look, it was the same look he'd had as a child.

He ran to her and grasped her face in his hands, looking over her face. She was bruised. Anger welled up in him. "Go to Baldur's stand and wait for me there." he told her, dropping his backpack on the ground and drawing the mace. He traced back, trying to remember when he stopped hearing her footsteps behind him. He scanned the alleyways, mace gripped tightly in his hand. He smelled fresh blood and slipped into the alleyway. There was a large blood spot on the wall, and unconscious on the ground a man. Kaska knelt and pressed a finger to his jugular. Still alive.

"Not for long." Kaska snarled, lifting the mace over his head with a grunt. He brought it down straight between the man's legs. Not only were some very vital organs crushed, he felt the distinctive crack of the hip girdle buckling, and shards of bone punctured the man's intestines and bladder. Kaska ripped the mace out, the grinning demon head stained red. It was a gruesome sight; blood tipped both of the horns and the grotesque metal tongue of the mace.

She did as instructed going to where she saw the old man, but she shied away from sitting near and hid behind his stall. She didn’t know if the man had seen her or not, didn’t care either, she was shaking and cold. She kept her wrist close, but didn’t think it was broken, she wiggled her fingers and moved her wrist sucking in a breath from how it hurt. Not broken, she relaxed some, but she’d not be able to change till all the pain was gone. Her head was pounding and her cheek felt like it was on fire, she gingerly touched the place with her uninjured hand, but pulled her fingers quickly away. She heard footsteps and pulled herself in to a corner curling up tight. Again she made no sound. The shaking continued and she tried desperately to keep from doing so, why was she so cold too?|

Baldur found her behind his stall. He knelt in front of her. "Are you alright?" he asked her, genuinely seeming concerned. He saw the bruises and couldn't help but think the worst. "Tell me what happened? Where's Kaska?" he asked. Now he was concerned for the skinny catamite. He knew how his friend could get completely and utterly carried away and arrogant when he was happy. To his relief, the second person that rounded the corner was Kaska, holding the mace. Baldur took one look at the blood and scrambled to his feet away from Leith. "What the hell did you do?!" he demanded.

"Killed a cockroach." Kaska growled at him, daring him to comment further. Baldur fell silent and Kaska leaned the mace up against the side of the stall, kneeling in front of Leith and taking her hands.
"Tell me something honestly. Did he do more than beat you?" he asked gently, his golden eyes focused on hers. He prayed she said no, he had promised to protect her. Running off and letting her get nabbed was the last thing he had planned for. He put a palm on her cheek, looking carefully at the bruises. She'd knocked the bastard out, so it was unlikely he'd raped her. But he still had to know.

She hadn’t had enough time to even get the energy up to try and answer the man before Kaska came back. When he knelt near her asking her if he’d done anything she managed to shake her head her voice when she found she could speak was a whisper “I’m cold Kaska and I can’t fly…”

She was in shock from what had happened, she’d never been harmed and what that stranger had done had shaken her. She shuddered when she saw the mace, turning a tad more pale, but didn’t do anything else. Yet she couldn’t help some part of her being grimly satisfied, he’d kept his word, but also punished the stranger. She leaned her forehead on her knees just trying to keep from shivering, her head hurt and now that Kaska was back she felt safer.

Kaska wished he had the strength to pick her up. He kissed her forehead and took off his ratty furlined coat, putting it around her shoulders. "Come on. Let's go sit somewhere safe for a bit." he told her. He looked up at the bartender. "Thank you for finding the chest. Did you have any trouble with Enoch?" he picked up his mace and rested it on his shoulder. He'd have to clean off the drying blood.
Baldur cleared his throat and shook his head. "No, but if I see anyone looking for you or the little lady I'll lead them off somewhere." he said.
Kaska helped Leith to her feet and led her back to the alleyway, settling her down on the rags. "Just sit here for a moment. You weren't badly hurt, and he didn't touch you anywhere where it could have been worse." he said softly. "You followed my advice though, and I'm very happy you did."

He sat down in front of her, his back to the alley opening, and cleaned his mace with a rag from the bed and some water from his waterskin.

She was happy he wasn’t mad at her, when she sat down she curled up under the blankets and drifted off. It was more out of a need to process what had happened and to calm down than actual need to sleep. Though she didn’t rest well as the shadow of the man who was dead stalked her, but in time the dreams would fade and she would rest peacefully. She wouldn’t make the same mistake twice and should she get captured again she’d react faster. Her instinct to fight was proven and fight she would, she’d probably do more damage next time providing she had surprise on her side again.|
