Day 6 of summer, AV 510

Mankros Tied his horse to an iron ring on the side of a building, neither knowing nor caring about its intended purpose. Having secured Dakren reins tightly, he stepped into the building that advertised itself as an employment office.
"Hello," he called over the desk,"my name is Mankros, and I was wondering if there were any job openings," he stated.

Sharn

Trega smiled warmly as the Jamoura settled himself, ever the professional, and pulled a sheet of paper from a pile on her desk as she picked up a pencil.

"All right, Master Sharn, if you could tell me a little about yourself: how long will you be in Syliras, what sort of experience do you have, and is there anything in particular you'd like to do?"

Mankros

OOC: I know Cayenne sent you a note about your CS, please adjust your Skills and Lores before your next reply. Thanks!

The receptionist gave him a friendly smile and waved him into a seat. "Welcome to the Employment Office, Master Mankros. There are always jobs to be had, of course! First, let me ask a few questions," she said, picking up a piece of paper and a pencil. "How long will you be in Syliras, what sort of experience do you have, and is there anything in particular you'd like to do?"
PLEASE NOTE: Finals are over, but summer is eating my soul. As such, as of the end of June I will not be accepting any new quests/modded threads until I finish some of the ones I've already started/agreed to. My apologies for this, but I don't want to be unfair to those who have been waiting for replies!

Sharn pondered on the title the young woman gave him. Master Sharn, it sounded odd, and never before had he imagined or thought of himself as a master over anybody or of any trade. Sure, he'd like to master a few respectable trades, sciences, etc. but he simple couldn't see himself as one in his current state. "Indefinitely. I have only just arrived in Syliras, but I find it suitable. I may not be accepted everywhere immediately, but I believe with time, the people may grow to understand me, and I them. For the time, I have no plans on leaving." Sharn lifted a large muscular furred arm to his head and scratched mercilessly at an itch that infected a tiny spot, about the size of a pin-head, at the back of his neck before continuing with his brief interview.

"I'm not sure as to what skills I may have that could be used, but I have been writing for a long time. Somebody very close to me taught me the common language and how to write it. My handwriting ins't particularly beautiful, but I've been working on it. I'd say I'm fairly good with my hands..." Sharn glanced at his enormous palm and shrugged. ... for how big they are. I'm strong, it's a Jamoura thing, so at least I should think I could carry and transport moderately heavy objects. What I would really like to do though is to learn something new. Something I could work at, and write about. I'm not sure if any such profession or job has any availability to a Jamoura, but if there was, I'd think I would accept it, regardless of the details.

"I intend to stay here indefinitely, and I have experience working in stables and teaching, but I find that people understand lessons quite a bit better than horses," he replied.

Sharn

Trega copied down much of what he said in short, quick notes on the paper, nodding at each point. When he finished, she finally looked up and smiled.

"Oh, I don't think it'll be much of a problem finding you something you'll be good at. It's true that many in Stormhold have never seen a Jamoura, but your people have a reputation for being peaceful. They may be surprised by the actuality of your size," she chuckled, giving him a friendly smile, "but I think they will be fairly accepting of you all the same. Especially if they're given the chance to speak with you." Her smile widened, and then she turned to pull another ledger from a drawer in her desk.

"Well, the good thing is that as you've both strength and smarts on your side, you'll have your pick of jobs," she murmured, flipping through a few pages. "If you're interested in a bit of manual labor, I've no doubt the Knights would be willing to pay you top dollar for some help around the city. Clearing out old residences, moving furniture, building new additions onto the castle, that sort of thing. Or maybe the warehouses, helping to unload things from the ships that dock. Or," she said, turning the pages again, "if you're more interested in learning a new trade than earning gold, we've a few apprenticeships open. One at the Apothecary Shop, another at the Glassworks, and I believe Sina's looking for someone if you're interested in learning how to make musical instruments."

Mankros

OOC: Awesome! You should change Eloquence to Rhetoric, it's the same thing and we've got Rhetoric on the Skills List.

Trega took a few notes, nodding at his replies. "Serena is always looking for help at the Windmount Stables if you're interested, though you may have to start as a stablehand and work your way up to teaching - but if you're apt, I'm sure she'll have something for you. Does that suit, or did you have something else in mind?"

"Starting low is fine: I just need enough mizas to buy food for myself and food and shelter for my horse. Any job I get I will do to the best of my ability, but I prefer to keep my interaction with people to a minimum."

"Well, it sounds like a basic stablehand job will do well for you then," Trega smiled, filling out the last few bits of information on the sheet before turning it around for him to see. "If you'll sign here and here to confirm that you've received the referral from the employment office," she said, tapping a fingertip to the paper as she handed him the pencil.

While he signed, she pulled another sheet of paper from her drawer and quickly filled in the blank sections with a few jotted words. "And then you'll just need to take this form to the Windmount Stables and ask for Serena. She'll work out the particulars. And if the position doesn't work out, please feel free to return to us again," she said with a bright smile, handing him the referral as she took back the contract he'd signed.

Looking for a place to be
16th of Summer 510 AV
Even the dead needs to make a living

For a very long while, Jilitse stood in front of Aenysa Tieran, with cart in tow. Numerous people have passed by, the very business of the Welcome Center unfolding before her eyes. But the nuit stood still, deliberating a decision to be made. She knew the girl to be a Greeter, but she could not pin down the right words to say. Jil stared at Aenysa, unblinking for almost an hour.

The wheels of the cart creaked when she finally moved and took a step forward. Even so, she took a few more chimes before finally speaking up, her chilly voice fighting the warmth and friendliness of the other girl. "You think there would be work for someone like me?" The dark ring around her eyes and tongue was a dead giveaway of Jil's misunderstood race. She expected Aenysa to have seen her own share of Nuits. "I know a little metalsmithing and embalming," she whispered as if they were the most uninteresting skills in the world. She skipped revealing that she knew Animation, she preferred to keep that a secret. "I want to work somewhere where I would not attract attention to myself. I do not want to disturb in as much as I do not want to be disturbed. You think there would be somebody who would not mind working with someone like me?" Jil was casual yet cautious. She didn't really want to herald that an undead was looking for a job in town. A Nuit needing money was a concept that was really hard to explain. "I was wondering if I could be allowed to take on more than one job at a time. I don't sleep, in fact, I can't. Could that sort of arrangement be accommodated?" Who knows what she'll have to do to keep herself busy when she no longer had anything to do. It was better to work the whole day and night. She needed to be busy. She also needed the money. Jilitse nodded at Aenysa's answer, her blank expression giving nothing away.

"I'm also aware that you know your way around the Castle. I need to buy a couple of things, and I would appreciate it if you could tell me which is the way to the Bazaar?" An unnecessary question, she knew where the Bazaar was. "Where are the specialty shops located?" She looked warily at her cart.

I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common woman with common thoughts and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough.

[Syliras Location] Welcome Center/Employment Office

Postby Taeghen on July 19th, 2010, 12:13 am

Timestamp: 16th of Summer, 510 AV

Taeghen had just recently arrived in Syliras, having come to deliver a message to somebody at the gates. With that business taken care of, he determined it was time to look for work. He was low on mizas and knew he wouldn't be able to stay long without some kind of way to make money. The Welcome Center was just the place to find such work, and so after dropping off his horse Taeghen made his way back to it and entered the front door.

Taeghen approached the secretary with a smile on his face and a hopeful look in his eyes. "Hello, my name is Taeghen Tarnruth." Taeghen stood behind the chair, not sure if he should sit or stand just yet. "I was hoping you might have some work for me. I don't know how long I'll be in the city, but any temporary work you might have would do nicely. I don't have any trade skills really... other than mapping. But I can do heavy lifting, or serve as a guard." Taeghen pauses for a moment then adds, "Also, I'm very well traveled in Sylira, and if you know of anyone looking for a guide or escort, or perhaps a courier job, I could do that as well. ..provided I'm given a least partial payment up front so I can buy supplies."
So... My house was broken into while I was on vacation. Several valuables were stolen including my xbox, tv, my favorite sword, and obviously.. my computer. That's why I haven't posted in a while. Got a new computer now.. So I'm back. Will resume posting ASAP
