Denying Denial

"That must've been harsh for ya. I can admit I've had to take several lives myself. Even though I didn't want to."

Ayatah responded with a snort - not of derision, but general humour. Life in Taloba was hard, true, but what other option did her people have? Having been born and raised in the jungle, it was second nature for her to hunt every day, and to march with alongside her comrades when patrolling with the army. It was hard, yes. But it was life.

”I… am used to it.” She said carefully, slowly. The next part of her sentence was said even more so; she did not want to come across as too barbaric. ”But in Taloba, we… only kill because we want to. We do not regret spilling the blood of an enemy or prey.”

Myrians did not kill other Myrians - the Goddess-Queen had sought to that many years ago. But they killed just about every other creature that moved within their jungle, because it was either food or foe. The dreaded Dhani, especially. No Myrian parleyed with the snake-people, and if someone did, they would surely be exiled from their clan and home. Humans… Ayatah considered this. Yes, she had heard that sometimes, human tradesmen were allowed to leave the jungle alive, and of course Kelvics were always useful. But nobody else.

"Maybe I want that kind of innocence after the things I have witnessed,"

Children here are not hardy in the slightest, Ayatah thought as she rolled her eyes. She was not a maternal person - so when the young girl spoke so timidly, the half-Myrian dismissed the words before truly appreciating them. Having had a younger brother and sister, Ayatah was used to children… But not the sort that whispered or pouted. No, she was use to children who wielding wooden weapons and practiced killing their enemies.

Plus, what could this girl have seen in the ‘civilised’ world…?

Denying Denial

Postby Ricky Maze on February 12th, 2013, 12:03 am

”I… am used to it. But in Taloba, we… only kill because we want to. We do not regret spilling the blood of an enemy or prey.” Ayatah spoke as if she were choosing the words carefully, even though she did the lifestyle she lived in still sounded rather barbaric. It threw Ricky into an astonishment he hadn't felt in quite a while, for he could not imagine having to kill everyday in order to live. There was no judgement on her part, but the way Taloba sounded it seemed as though it raised the savage in people. Where as the other cities like Zeltiva and Syliras had civilized people, and their cultures were still different from one another. It truly amazed Ricky how the world can feel so small, and yet seem so large to the truly thoughtful. Taloba, being a jungle, was just a environment Ayatah's people lived in, and though Ricky heard only so very little of the Myrian's; she seem to put what he heard to shame.

Most of the common folk referred to Myrian's as savages, cannibals that hunt and feed on nearly anything within their territory. Yet watching at and listening to Ayatah, there didn't seem to be
so much savagry but just a way of life. Another term for survival of the fittest in this cruel world.

"Maybe I want that kind of innocence after the things I have witnessed." Said Keira as she began to pout. There was a sadness Ricky could connect with in her, something in her eyes that felt the same as he did. A past that haunted the mind, no matter how hard one tried to forget. She too had a history that troubled her just as he did, but at her age no such child should have to go through an ordeal.

"Don't worry about the troubles of the past, here in Zeltiva ye can count on the guard to protect ya." He assured her, but he looked to Ayatah as well; so that she would know he meant both of them. "Me bein one o' them, I'll do all I csn to keep ya safe." He assured them, hoping to lighten the mood with a better sense of security.

Denying Denial

Postby Keira Star on February 12th, 2013, 1:26 pm

Ayatah's words rung in Keira's ears, "in Taloba, we… only kill because we want to. We do not regret spilling the blood of an enemy or prey.” Those words were picked out of many as she tried to ease how barbaric she could sound. It wasn't her fault she was raised that way but still... something about those words didn't feel right, they felt extremely out of place. Ayatah didn't seem like that kind of person. She was very kind in a way.

Keira tried not to judge people until she knew more about them. Someone may seem one way and really be another. Many people misjudge someone because of the way they look or act. That wasn't fair to Myrians like Ayatah or Kelvics. So she decided she would never act that way until she knew someone really had evil intentions.

Keira was a bit embarrassed after acting in such a childlike manner. They had both picked up on her unrest which made her look even more like a child. She pushed her blonde hair out of her face as the wind blew and listened as Ricky spoke, "Don't worry about the troubles of the past, here in Zeltiva ye can count on the guard to protect ya. I'll do all I can to keep ya safe." There was something about the way he spoke that seemed foreign, but his words were both reassuring and secure. Still, she couldn't get the memory out of her head. It was her fault, it made her want to run away from both of them.

Instead she answered them both in a more mature fasion, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so childish... thank you. I've been a bit shaken the past few days," Keira replied, smiling at Ricky and Ayatah and looking down at the ground for a second. Maybe she didn't fight like Ayatah or Ricky but she still fought when it was absolutely necessary. She didn't like to abuse her power, or hurt anyone with it who didn't deserve it. Keira felt a little better, she just wished the past would stop haunting her.

"Don't worry about the troubles of the past, here in Zeltiva ye can count on the guard to protect ya.”

The Myrian smiled tightly at those words, trying to appreciate the gesture, but failing to do so. The waveguard were there to protect the majority of the citizens of Zeltiva, but Ayatah perceived them as not a necessity for herself. Perhaps that was her Eypharian-like pride talking, or the fiercely independent nature of the Myrians.

Having spent three years in the Myrian army, Ayatah was well aware how to defend herself, as well as others. It was not that she doubted the wave guards’ capabilities to do their job, just that she likened to think that she didn’t need defending.

”Thank… you.” She replied, a little awkwardly. It was not in the Myrian culture to lie, and so it always felt strange to Ayatah when she did not voice her honest opinions. But still, it was much more socially acceptable

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so childish... thank you. I've been a bit shaken the past few days,"

It surprised Ayatah that she almost felt a twinge of concern and empathy for the young girl. For a moment, she remembered what her own adolescence had been like. Fraught with typical adolescent hormones, with added barbarisms and an Eypharian scent, if she remembered correctly. The boys that had teased her suddenly paid Ayatah a new kind of attention - but it was unappreciated as much as the teasing. ”It’s fine. I was young once.”

Myri, now I feel old…

Denying Denial

Postby Ricky Maze on February 19th, 2013, 12:50 am

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so childish... thank you. I've been a bit shaken the past few days." Keira was a bit better in spirit now and Ricky let a slight grin grow.

”It’s fine. I was young once.” Ayatah mentioned in turn.

"Come to think of it me too." He couldn't hide the smirk that followed, a chuckle deep down inside him filled his chest. He looked to the lighting within the clouds, the area that shone the brightest would be enough to tell what chime it was; and it certainly was that time.

"This has been a lovely chat ladies," He looked sincere at the two, "but my post starts in less than the chime and I need to go get ready. It has been a good conversation though." He assured them with a grin, as he waved goodbye to them. He had found the distraction for the day, and so his mind didn't bother wrapping around thoughts of the truth. He denied the fact he was in denial and simply refused to pull his head out of the sand. He didn't want to face the truth simply because of one thing, he was not ready to face it now. Instead he rather deal with it later, but little did he know he would only trouble himself further...

OOC :
I figured I'd leave it open for you two to post, Ayatah can wrap the thread up and I'll turn it in. :) Great work!

Denying Denial

Postby Keira Star on February 19th, 2013, 10:59 pm

Keira smiled at the two of them and thought about what she'd do next. Rest probably, get ready to figure out her life tomorrow. Both of these strangers seemed pretty nice, she was glad that she met some people in Zeltiva. The sooner she got used to the place the better. She sighed mentally. It was going to be a while before she could actually get used to things around Zeltiva and she really doubted she could find a job at such a young age. Others were able, but then again they weren't orphans.

She nodded to both of them and replied, "Goodbye, It was nice meeting you." It had been, she was sincere. Ayatah and Ricky both seemed rather interesting and the two had changed young Keira's perspective. The world isn't what she knew it to be, but then again she had known that. She was just denying it.

” This has been a lovely chat ladies, but my post starts in less than the chime and I need to go get ready. It has been a good conversation though."

The gent Ayatah now knew as Ricky said, and the Myrian woman nodded in agreement. She had come to the docks to earn what little coin she could by dancing, and as much as she enjoyed socialising, it used up precious time.

”It was nice to meet you too, both of you.” Her words were accompanied by an easy smile. It had been enjoyable learning of the perspectives and opinions of others, especially the city-dwellers that were so different to her own ‘savage’ people.

And, she admitted reluctantly, she supposed it was a little reassuring that men such as Ricky made it their duty to defend the city…. Even if Ayatah was convinced that she did not need such protection from non-Myrians.

Just because they are not your people, do not judge them any less, a moral-based voice told her, or else you are just as bad as the people that stare at you.

And with that thought, Ayatah nodded a formAL farewell to her new acquaintances, and continued her way down the dock. As she walked, and her slightly gilded skin glowed subtly in the afternoon sun, heads turned and comments were made.

But Ayatah simply smiled. Not all city-dwellers were bad, it seemed.
