[Near Riverfall] Alone But Not Lonely (Dyrid)

The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

ImageKavala smiled at Dyrid as spoke, her cheeks still flushed from the ride. Spontaneously, she hugged him once he'd shifted back, unashamed of both his nudity, his scars, or his lovely inking. When he went to get dressed, she halted his hands as he pulled clothing from his pack. "Dyrid, nudity isn't a problem here. You can wear what you'd like when you'd like to - or not. There are several Akalak's that routinely go shirtless and some of them are as scarred as you are. We actually enjoy the view, truth be told." He'd meet Sorian eventually and see that she was right. Hatot was frequently here, and when he wasn't shirtless and working, he was beating Akela (or taking a beating) soundly and again, usually shirtless. "But if you want to wear clothing, that's fine. It might make some of the visitors more comfortable. But pants are really all that's needed. I know that even shoes can be dangerous to you kelvics. There's something about humans, especially females, that make seeing male machinery uncovered that make them nervous. Luckily there are very few humans that ever stop here. So... you have a choice. And you are free to choose attire as you'd like." She said softly. Then, and only then, she'd release his hand and let him get dressed.

"We'll start tomorrow introducing you to some of the horses. What will help is if I give you some of their blankets to sleep in tonight, so even if you loose your shape and get the smell of tiger all over them... we can blanket them with the scented blankets and start gently introducing them to the smell. We'll have to be clever about it, but no more than a month and they'll be fine with you prowling around in your tiger shape and even roaring in the riding arena if the mood strikes you... I promise."
She said with a smile.

His comfort was her priority, whether he knew it or not.

She lead him to the Verada within the Inner Courtyard of Sanctuary. There was a large wooden table that would seat almost eighteen people, a hearth facing both inside and outside the facility, and a firepit on the far side. It was covered over with a pergola that had grape vines and westeria hanging from it. Kavala had carefully cultivated each, so the facility would always have fresh grapes in the summer and shade in the winter. She pulled two chairs over by the firepit and then settled into one patting the other right beside her.

"I'll get some food started in a minute. First.... thank you for helping me." She said gently, reaching out to stroke his hair. She studied his features and estimated him to have the looks of a seventeen year old human male... which would make him just over a year old as a kelvic. Young, but just on the cusp of being a man. He was already larger than she was, even as a teen, and would be a magnificent man when he got done growing. She couldn't decide if that would take another year or if it would happen sooner. A smile played across her face. He'd break hearts with his looks, for sure, when he finally got to that point.

If he got there... it was time for a few warnings.

"Riverfall is full of warriors. They take threats very seriously. And even if you aren't a threat, they will see your kelvic form as definitely one. It's not your fualt, but they won't be able to help it. Your size, strength... everything about you. They don't hate Kelvics, but here they are considered pets and their ownership is very important. If you were female, your value would be beyond measure because they need female kelvics to produce their offspring. Akalaks have no females in their race. But since you are male, Dyrid, you have very little value at all. I'm not saying this to be mean, but I want you to understand where you stand in their society. If you happen to go to town and accidentally frighten someone, they will see it as justified if they were to kill you." Kavala believed in honesty... in the truth. Dyrid was young, but he was old enough to know very well what she spoke of.

"I'd like you to stay here... with me... for as long as you'd like. You'll be safe here and I can protect you as long as you follow the rules of this place and the rules of the city in which it belongs too. I know you've been confined and kept under horrible conditions... and because of that you need some time and some to realize there's more to life than chains and collars and lashes to your back."
Kavala said, rage infusing her voice again. "Here you can be someone. A person. Someone who's on equal footing with everyone else. There is work here to be done, and we can give you coin and a place to sleep for your help." By the Gods, she didn't want him to stay because she paid him or because it was safe. Something in her wanted him to stay because he liked it and fit in.... because he was happy.

Akela, her sister, would accuse her of taking in strays.... and maybe she'd be right. But Kavala herself was a stray... and healers were compelled. How could they resist bright blue eyes full of longing like Dyrid's anyhow?

Kavala reached out and touched him again, stroking his oddly colored hair and running her hand down his jawline. He was a beautiful young man. Absolutely lovely. And she could feel... with all her heart... his beautiful soul. It made her want to crawl into his lap and ask him to protect her - she who vowed never to be in the position to need such protection again.

When the light that encased Dyrid faded he was back in his mask of humanity, Kavala hugged him instantly not minding the fact that he was naked. After returning her hug with one of his own he reached for his pack when she stopped him from pulling out the garments. Blue eyes fixated on her, listening as she spoke about nudity around the Sanctuary, her comment about humans was strangely comforting to him. Choosing not to wear his shirt the kelvic quickly pulled up the black linen slacks. ”The night air feels nice on my human skin for once, I’ll leave the shirt off.” He said with a smile tugging the worn leather pack on his back.

Kavala’s idea on how to induce her horses to his scent was great. He had been trying to think of away to slowly get them used to the smell other than getting close as he could and when they were comfortable slowly shorten the distance. He has always slept in fur since the escape so the blankets would be good because shifting while he sleeps will most likely happen. Dyrid was a good hunter and had patience also he could do clever, surely with two of them they could outwit some silly horses. ”Roaring in the riding arena…that sounds fun!” He said giving a light laugh.

She led him to the veranda, he walked close so if she wishes to lean on him to take some weight off her ankle she could. The large wooden table caught his eye first when they entered the room so many chairs, were there that many people here? He saw a hearth that had both interior and exterior access, there was a fire pit across the room, and grape vines covering the area. Dyrid had never been in a room quite like this and it was stunning, noticing Kavala patting a chair by the fire pit he ran over to sit next her.

Reaching out and running her nimble fingers through his hair distracted him from the mentioning of food. The kelvic could stay in that moment forever with Kavala’s light touches replacing any need he might have. Dyrid would have never guessed that being here with this mysterious stranger would make him feel so safe and that he belonged. As she talked about Riverfall the city of warriors and his true form would be viewed as a threat, he would meet her azure stare with his own listening with his full attention. Her words about kelvics being kept as pets and used for breeding purposes raised a growl from the kelvic. She spoke truthfully to him, giving it him straight forward not mean but just the way he needed it to be and for that he is grateful.

As Kavala continued she offered him a place to stay safe from the confounds of bindings. He could follow rules long as someone told them to him, plus the young kelvic needed to work it would keep busy and it will help him learn to be more human. The idea of being somebody and not just the kelvic boy was exciting to him. Who knew helping a stranger home could change his life in a short period of time.

”I would be very grateful to stay here with you!” Kavala would see his face light up with happiness. ”Following rules will not be a problem so long as I’m told what they are. I don’t really have any particular skills but follow instructions very well. Living with Gal…” He didn’t need to speak his name that part of Dyrid’s life is over. “My ex master, I learned real fast never to ask how to do something more than once. Payment is not necessary a place to sleep and the kindness you’ve shown me is payment enough. I will earn my keep, I promise! He said giving Kavala a hug and rubbing his jawline across hers the way a feline shows affection.

His life has took on new meaning with the short time he’s spent with Kavala, and that’s something he could never repay her not even with all the gold in Mizahar. She has taught him there can be good in people they all don’t want to use and or kill him. When her hand ran across his jawline sending small jolts though his body, it made him want to pull her into his lab holding and protecting her forever. Nothing else in this world mattered to the kelvic; he was living in this moment one that he could experience for the rest of his short life.

[Near Riverfall] Alone But Not Lonely (Dyrid)

Postby Kavala on June 16th, 2010, 7:06 pm

ImageKavala smiled. She enjoyed his jawline rubbing along her own lightly scaled jaw. She took his shoulders for a moment in her hands and pulled him towards her in a hug. It was the soft gentle hug of a friend, one that promised safety and that everything would be fine. When Kavala released him, it was to fetch horse blankets from every corner of the stable area. She had six or seven large ones that she piled into a stall. Her horse, the one that had thrown her, had obviously come back without her. Groomed, and now tucked away in a stall, Kavala knew Aweston had taken care of the situation - and she was relieved for it.

Then, once Dyrid knew where he could spend the night, soon she'd go about making him something to eat. But first things first, a tour and getting him settled. Kavala pointed out things to Dyrid - horses names, the cat, the owl, where the bath was and that he'd be expected to use it. She showed him the well for water, where most things were stored, and even gave him a brief tour of the clinic. The Konti was very upfront when she lead him into the basement where there was an assortment of large cages. She didn't want him to stumble upon the area himself and think the worst of it. "Dyrid, this is my kennels. Sometimes we have animals here that are very hurt, and while they are getting better they need a safe place to sleep. That includes cats, dogs, even a baby glassbeak I had here once - it was released back into the wild when it recovered. Puppies are born and kept here while there's no one home to mind that they don't get trampled underfoot. I've never kept a Kelvic here, but that's not to say it won't happen. I have cages big enough for them if its needed. Sometimes you run across very feral creatures that are dangerous and need some place safe to be kept before they can be helped." Kavala said.

"The stall is just temporary for you. But you can come in and out as you'd like since the latch is on the top and there's no top door that locks nor bars like some stables do."
A loose box stall would never keep a tiger contained anyhow. "Tomorrow after you meet everyone, you can sleep with the rest of us in my quarters or perhaps in the guest quarters if you prefer." She said, returning to the clinic, then moving into a cold storage, where she pulled out bacon and eight chicken eggs as well as some cheese.

A few minutes later, they were back on the veranda, and Kavala was making a simple meal of bacon and eggs for both of them. Wedges of cheese went on the side and there was fresh bread with honeybutter as well. Kavala gave him cows milk to drink, and she herself enjoyed a glass of wine. Then, when they were all nice and fed, she leaned back and looked deep into Dyrids eyes.

"Tell me Dyrid, what do you want out of life? Really? If you could have anything at all, what would that be?" She asked, curious. Kavala wanted to help him. And she felt compelled to heal him, though she wasn't sure what exactly would.

[Near Riverfall] Alone But Not Lonely (Dyrid)

Dyrid followed Kavala as she led him through the stables, carrying the blankets as she gathered them. While they walked he listened to all the names of the different horses, the owl, and the cat. The animals reacted to the scent of the tiger, but not in the way he expected. They were shy and he could smell their fear as he walked past them. Once Kavala showed him the stall that he would be sleeping in Dyrid would set down the blankets and his pack safely inside the wooden box stall.

Catching back up with Kavala, she continued her tour of the Sanctuary. He knew what the well was for but this bathhouse he knew nothing about. Cats spend most of their days self grooming so he’d never used a bath before but would do so if she asked him to. She led him into a room filled with various instruments that were new to Dyrid but he assumed that they were used for medical purposes. Following her down into the basement, he was horrified by the sight of cages. What Kavala told him made sense hurt feral creatures can be very deadly and that Dyrid knew from experience, the last time he went feral he’d killed Galdion. The kelvic couldn’t stay in that room it was too much for him but was very grateful she had showed it to him and not letting him run across it by accident.

Back and safe in the clinic Dyrid had to use all of his control or else he would shift and that could be disastrous right now. He knew that he could never harm Kavala even while feral, but they didn’t need to risk it. Simply just nodding a reply to her words since it was taking all of his focus not to change. She disappeared into a storage room and the kelvic could smell the bacon before he even saw it. Food distracted him from the need to change, he would offer to carry something for her as they walked back to the veranda.

Watching Kavala cook was very intriguing as he always enjoyed his kills raw. The kelvics endless bottom of a stomach made very short work of the bacon, eggs, cheese, the honey buttered bread, and washing it all down with his milk. ”Thank you for Dinner, it was wonderful!” He said with a broad smile across his face.

Matching her azure gaze with one of his own sideways stares, her question stumped the young kelvic. ”No one has ever asked me that before.” Taking a moment to think of what he really wanted with his freedom. “I guess that someday I want to travel to Falyndar and learn about my wild brothers and sisters. From what I’ve gathered the Myrians are a blood thirsty warrior class of people. So I think that my journey there should happen later on in my life, because I need to be whole once more and not broken. But for now I’m happy to be around new people learning how to be more human, even though it scares me a little. What do you want in life Kavala?” He asked with a cub like curiousness.

[Near Riverfall] Alone But Not Lonely (Dyrid)

Postby Kavala on June 18th, 2010, 6:31 pm

ImageShe'd lit the fire on the Veranda - not the hearth she'd cooked with, but the firepit with chairs gathered around it. And settling a basin she filled with steaming water from the hearth kettle and packs of herbs designed to ease her ankle pain, Kavala set up the chairs so her and Dyrid could spend the evening in conversation around the firepit. Taking an overlarge crimson cloak, she partially wrapped herself in it and gathered her good foott up on the chair so she was facing the fire. The bad one went into the basin of steaming water that smelled of pungent herbs. Thus settled, Kavala looked almost childlike as she sat soaking her injured foot - leaching out the pain - and wrapped from the chill of the night that would soon descend.

Dyrid could pull up the second chair next to her or settle before the firepit on the ground if he felt more comfortable. And while they talked, the night settled easily over Sanctuary as the animals started to calm down and drift off.

She listened to what he said about Falyndar and nodded. It made sense. If she wore the form of a giant white tiger, she'd want to go find her own kind as well. "It's got to be a great feeling to know that somewhere in the world is the origins of your animal form, and that they live together with people that truly appreciate them." Kavala said softly, and decided if she could help it, she'd see to it that Dryid got to go to Falyndar someday. To her, after living on the sea of grass, a jungle seemed enclosed, stifling - both with how the heat of it was described and how the people that lived there interacted. But all she'd heard was stories. Everyone knew there was little truth in rumor and legend. Things had to be seen first hand.

Kavala herself felt sleepy, though her ankle still hurt, and she knew it would for a while. But talk was good, keeping her mind off yet another weakness she had no time or patience for.

"I do not think the Myrian Tigers are wild, Dyrid. Despite, perhaps, what you've been told. Anyone who has heard stories of the Myrian have heard too of their large tigers and how they are well suited for each other in battle. I think if I had to guess, the tigers were bred up by the Myrians for their size, strength and intelligence... just like horses have been for people. I'm sure there are tons of wild tigers in Falyndar, but your kind is not so common, I suspect, Dryid." Kavala said gently, then pulled the cloak more tightly around her. She yawned, snuggled deeper, and turned to look at him thoughtfully.

"You know. We're alot alike. No one ever asks me such things either. They always assume I'm the one that is going to take care of them - not that I need care. They never tell me what they think, feel, or what they need. I have to assume everything or work in the dark guessing. I want to help people, and heal them in as many ways as I can - scars of the body, wounds of the mind - but honestly no one ever tries to take care of me. Today was nice, Dyrid, having someone show up just when I needed help. Thank you."
What she was really saying though was... while she was spending a great deal of time working on others and their wounds, very few actually took the time to hug her when she needed it, fix her something to eat when she forgot to take the time for food, or simply told her they appreciated her. In a way, Kavala was a slave to her gnosis and her career, and often paid high prices in everyone assuming she was always fine.

The truth was she was often hurting, afraid, and trying to compensate for the mistakes of her past - the foolish decisions she'd made to ride out across the grass alone - and kept making it seemed. But no matter what she did, very little could be done about it. She couldn't change the past. And she couldn't rush the future. There was only the present to dwell in... and that overwhelmed her sometimes. It was in those overwhelmed times that often all she would need to get herself through life was a quiet word of thanks, a hug, a simple 'I love you.'. But those things never manifested. And she understood why. She was supposed to be the strong one, the unphased one, the one everyone looked to for leadership.

One day they'd see through the lie. All of them.

[Near Riverfall] Alone But Not Lonely (Dyrid)

Postby Dyrid on June 20th, 2010, 11:41 pm

Dyrid grabbed a chair and joined Kavala by the fire pit. The scent of herbs that she used to soak her injured ankle was strong and made him sneeze a little. He could see the pain in her face and wished that he could take it away from his new friend. ” How’s your ankle feeling, is there anything I can do to help?” The young kelvic was eager to offer his assistance to her.

”Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to not be treated as a second class citizen. Having people look at you as an equal, not some tool they only use when in need. Or a object that someone has purchased.” He said thinking about how Marcus Kelvic created his race only to be servants. Galdion would tell him this repeatedly attempting to break his sprit changing him into a mindless instrument of death. Luckily Dyrid never broke and it was Galdion who paid the biggest price in the end.

He listened to the konti as she spoke about how they were alike, distracting him from replying that he meant wild as in not kelvic. He knew that the tigers lived along side of the Myrians. She needed him the same as he needed her. Dyrid knew all too well about not having someone to help when you need it the most, a simple pat on the shoulder resurging it would be alright, someone else showing they cared when you’re hunted by the past and the struggle is too much to bare. He has lived alone pretty much all of his life and here with Kavala made him not feel so alone in the world anymore for once.

Words failed to express what he wanted to say, so instead of speaking he carefully picked Kavala up out of her seat leaving her foot in the basin and placed her gently on his lap. Holding her close he whispered. ”Do not thank me, it was my pleasure.” Not needing to add “You’re no longer alone because I will take care of you.”

[Near Riverfall] Alone But Not Lonely (Dyrid)

Postby Kavala on June 22nd, 2010, 5:09 pm

ImageKavala flexed her foot, testing the ankle as it soaked in the warm water. "It's better, thank you." Kavala said with a smile. Snuggling deeper into her cloak, Kavala turned and looked at Dyrid thoughtfully. She seemed to think for a long moment, then cleared her throat and spoke gently.

"Dyrid, it's not their responsibility to treat you another way. It's your responsiblity, really, to show them you are a person with rights and privileges and values. People know what kelvics are, and even most people know what they are like. And a great deal of them cause problems or are violent just because of their upbringing. Some are feral, dangerous, and can even harm ordinary children or adults. Many of them don't reach it to your age without bonding or being fought in pits repeatedly. It makes them rather... less than intelligent if they bond young and often. You are so lucky, so very lucky that you are as old as you are and haven't been bonding over and over again."

She reached out to stroke his arm, as if to apologize for her words even if they were the truth. "Its truthfully that way for a lot of people in a lot of cities, even if they don't have a wilder side and aren't kelvic. If you are different, poor, uneducated... it doesn't matter. People will discriminate based on anything, even looks. I'm a Nakivak here and because my skin isn't blue and I'm not male. I have to constantly fight for my own place as well. Just as you will. It gets exhausting, being needed for one thing and that thing not being your mind or your skills. It's hard, sometimes, to get them to look up - at your face or at your hands - and realize how skilled they are." There was a sadness in her words, a tremble in what she was saying...

It was as if she was reliving her own stupidity, all over again, at being alone on the Sea of Grass. If Dyrid hadn't come along - hadn't found her - history could have repeated itself. Fear filled her and she started to shake, though she held herself still for the Kelvic's benefit, not wanting him to know how deeply a reaction was setting in.

She almost didn't realize when his strong arms reached out and picked her up, transferring her from her own chair to his warm lap. Even though he was young, Kavala was small and easily lifted. She seemed surprised by the move, and started to squirm until he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. She froze, waiting for the fear that always came when human hands touched her flesh, and seemed surprised her body had no such reaction to the kelvic. He was warmth and strength and power barely contained. Kavala blinked, started to open her mouth to speak, and nothing but a soft sob came out. The noise surprised her. The healer never cried. Not after those days in the Caravan when every abuse possible was issued upon her - where her world had narrowed down to pain and violence. After the second day with those men, her tears had mysteriously dried up and had never fallen again. At her age, she was considered an adult, but just barely - but something had been twisted inside her, warped terribly, and bolted behind the ironclad doors of her consciousness.

And Dryid threw them all open. Kavala thought, once upon a time, her family would have been the ones to help her and heal her, but she'd never given them the chance. She'd never wanted them to see her like she was now, grown and tainted - all but owned by the Akalak as a breeder. She had work here, important work, but her healing practice always focused on the animals. She'd never taken time for herself. There had been no forgiveness, no treatment, no protection. Still, late at night, she felt afraid and alone. That was one of the reasons why her rooms were open to all and often (as was the Drykas tradition), her sister, or any number of guests including Flick shared her bed. It made her feel better, made her sleep the full night at times... even when she was exhausted and some of her darker memories were closer to the surface.

As Dyrid closed his arms around the Konti, she did something uncharacteristic for her. She wrapped her own arms around him. Tucking her head into his neck, her body began to shake and he could feel the warm salty wetness begin to soak his neck. Kavala cried then, for the first time in two seasons, in the comfort and safety of the Myrian Tiger's arms. And in that instant, her mind opened to his in a way he'd never felt before. Acceptance, love, gratitude, trust, admiration, friendship, thankfulness all wove themselves together in a solid ethereal bond that reached out and made a connection between the two, solidifying completely and deeply. In that instant, Dyrid went from being wholly alone to feeling someone else in his head. He could feel her gentle nature, her pacifist ways, and the soul deep damage that filled her - damage she covered as best she could in order to function on a day to day basis. And as the bond strengthened at their physical touch, he could feel her memories and read them lightly, as if taking the words from a page in a book - he knew about the fall from her horse - it was a deeply ingrained event in her psyche. He knew about her month long capture at the hands of human slavers. Her past and present swirled around him, giving him glimpses of the creature he held in his arms and what type of person she was.

The truth was, she did need him, a lot more than she'd realized. Caregiver. Healer. Nurturer. She gave until there was nothing left, then found something more and gave that as well. She did it to make up for what she thought was her own shortcomings. Her own mistakes. For the fall from her horse at the hands of the carefully concealed tripwire. But it left her empty, hollow, spent inside.

And as the bond solidified, Dyrid knew, as Marcus Kelvic had designed his creatures to know, that he had his work cut out for him. Building her back up, teaching her to give less and take more, helping her find her confidence and hate less - especially herself - was going to be a full time job. The knowledge infused him with purpose. He was uniquely suited. He knew how to kill, how to take, how to bare pain and humiliation and abuse without breaking and without letting the enemy win. Kavala had broken. It might not have been with the first man who touched her. It might not have even been the first day. It might have been somewhere later along the line - the third day, the seventh rape - it didn't really matter. But somewhere in the mixture of blood and pain she'd lost herself. And after loosing herself, she'd never quite found a way back.

Did he know, she'd wonder later, that kelvics were designed to be pathfinders? They tracked the lost. Once, upon their creation, that had been their whole purpose. They ventured where no one else could or would go. They had skills no one else would have suspected them of having. Their ultimate mission, since day one, had been one of rescue.

And so as Kavala cried herself out wrapped in Dyrid's arms, the journey between the two of them already started. There was nothing hidden to him. Her whole soul was exposed - as raw and malformed as it was - he could still see the goodness there. She'd never lie to him. She'd never strike him or chain him or think harsh things of him. He knew, inherently, she'd give him the world if she could - teach him anything he wanted to learn or at least find someone who could. There'd always be shelter here, love, laughter, and a sense of togetherness that was wholly unexpected. Her life was complicated, and he could see that immediately. In a way, she was still a slave - though a pampered one at that. And she had love and passion in unmeasurable quantities, though most of it was bottled up - caged in the fear of her own soul.

So as the sobs played out, and the tears eventually dried - she'd keep her arms loosely around his neck and across his shoulders - a relaxed released bone-weary burden in his arms. The water she soaked her ankle in would be long cooled, and she'd be too exhausted to make it upstairs. But in the way of bondmates, even newly formed ones, Dyrid knew she wouldn't mind spending the night with him in the stable, curled around either his furred or bare-skinned form, wrapped in a sea of horseblankets.

[Near Riverfall] Alone But Not Lonely (Dyrid)

Dyrid’s cold blue eyes were locked on to Kavala’s equally blue stare. What she spoke of somewhat made sense to the kelvic. He has always assumed being an animal that barrowed the shape of a human when he saw fit was the source of people’s discrimination. However the reality is just because someone is different than they are people will always judge them as being odd.

He was learning the pair was more alike than he first realized. Since she wasn’t a male with blue skin, Kavala was looked upon differently even though she is a healer of both the mind and body. To Dyrid her work is more important than anything he could accomplish, sure he could take a life but she can save one. He knew that if the people of Riverfall were ever going to accept him as more than a killing machine with a hair pin trigger is going to take a lot of work.

The kelvic couldn’t help but wonder why such an intelligent woman would travel in the grasses without a proper escort. Sure the beasts out there were bad enough but the real problem is, the slavers. A beautiful konti like herself would sell for some major coin at the auction. He was lucky enough not to remember most of his own experience there. Kavala must have had the same thought because the air suddenly reeked with the strong stench of fear.

However her fear didn’t last long, for when he gently placed her in his lap and wrapped his arms around Kavala it quickly subsided. When the healer opened her moth to speak Dyrid thought she was going to tell him his actions were out of line, but was shocked by the soft sob she emitted. Looking deep into her azure gaze he saw something strangely familiar. Her eyes were filled with such fear and pain similar to that in his own.

What type of dark events plagued her past and left such a permanent mark on her soul, he wondered to himself. This small and fragile creature that he held was such an enigma to the young kelvic. On the outside she was strong, successful, had gone against the odds and created a place of her own here in the male dominated city. But on the inside she was haunted and tore apart by something horrible and Dyrid didn’t know what. Kavala wore a mask just as he does, the very same mask that gives the impression everything is okay. However deep down your struggling for control that the hurting is becoming too much to bare and in one moment you could put it easily to an end, no that’s not acceptable because then whomever inflected the pain would still win. So you fight on and lock away memories and pretend everything is alright.

The kelvic knew there was a reason or some force behind his travels he just didn’t understand what it was till now. Kavala needed to be healed on the inside the same as Dyrid, closing his arms around her he was shocked when she did the same. With her face nuzzled in the crook of his neck he could feel the full force of her tears on his bare skin. Kavala wept with such a fierceness that showed she hadn’t cried in ages. He tried to speak and offer comfort but his words were rendered useless when he felt it.

No longer was Dyrid alone in this world, because he could feel Kavala in his head. The feeling of acceptance, love, trust, gratefulness, admiration, and friendship flooded through his mind weaving between the two of them to form a sold eternal bond. He could feel that she was a gentle soul, a pacifist, but bore a deep dark wound upon her soul. Kavala would know that he would be trust worthy, loving, loyal, would help her any way that he could, that he would never harm her, and protect her from any dangers they might encounter.

As the bond solidified he vaguely saw memories that weren’t his. The fall from her horse, Kavala’s horrific month with the slavers, all of her past was opened to him like a book. He knew that she would never harm him, would give him all of Mizahar if that was possible, that there would always be love, safety, shelter from the elements, and acceptance for who he is here with Kavala. He saw all of her there was nothing left to the imagination he just simply knew.

Staring off into the dancing flame of the fire, still cradling her in his arms wondering to himself if he saw her past through the bond she must have been shown his past as well. His time tortured by Galdion, the way his death and the new found freedom that came with it made him feel, his long travels here dodging hunters and slavers alike. It all was laid out in the open for Kavala.

As her tears dried and ceased to fall, other than the slight crackle of the fire the world around them had gone still. Dyrid couldn’t keep his gaze off her as she laid now exhausted in his arms. Kavala had such a gentle soul but the slavers had broken her sprit. This angered the kelvic so much that he started to shake, wishing that he could track them down and make them pay. Now knowing about her pacifist ways she would never approve of such actions.

His path was now laid in front of him it wouldn’t be an easy task but it’s his purpose. He would help her regain the sprit others had taken from her and in doing so help build back his own. As the pair set out on this journey together they will learn to pull from each other’s strengths to better their selves as a whole. Their future was uncertain but he really enjoyed the feeling of knowing his purpose.

Looking at his bondmate on the verge of sleep he noticed how tired and sore the trip here had made him. Not knowing which room was hers, he simply carried her to the box stall she showed him early on. With Kavala now asleep in his arms Dyrid carefully laid her on the makeshift bed of horse blankets. After he was satisfied that she was tucked in enough his words finally returned to him. ”I’ve traveled long and far, my life has always been full of chaos. But…now I finally found you!” His happiness was radiating off of him as he spoke before slipping out of his human guise into his natural form. Curling himself around Kavala and filling his lungs with his bondmate’s scent, he fell into the first deep sleep of his life. Image
