A Duel in the Night(Khal'iah)

Spring 7th 513 AV

It was one of the few evenings Ohirin decided to wear his long-sword in to town. It was getting late and, as one of the first warm days of the year, Ohirin was planing on walking around the outside of the city. Ohirin was feeling nervous walking within the city walls with a blade at his side, walking around with a blade as obvious as the one he had could often make people nervous. Ohirin was walking through the city making his way towards the gates to leave the city. There was still a lot of people walking the streets of Zelitva, probably either admiring the warmth or heading home from work. There was just a handful of people walking around when Ohirin got close enough to see the city gates. The sun was just starting to set when Ohirin stopped to look at some fruit at a produce stall. Ohirin grabbed an apple, paid the women, and left the mid-aged woman with a smile and continued walking.

The apple didn't last long and when he was finished Ohirin flicked the core on to the street, and continued to walk towards the towns gates.

A Duel in the Night(Kahl'iah)

Postby Khal'iah on April 26th, 2013, 6:12 am

The day, as most were, was filled to the brim with encounters and events that left the violet-skinned Akalak tired. To say the least, it was a long day and the Akalak was grateful that the hour had finally gotten late. Now, he could finally relax a little and roam about the city with not a care in the world. Khal'iah Vojak loved this time of day, not only because it was a welcome reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the day, but because of the splendor of nature. Each and every evening since arriving in the marine city of Zeltiva had been one that stole the Akalak's breath away. As typical, the heavens above were painted in a vast array of vibrant colors, as if a divine hand had painted the sky into a stunning masterpiece. It was a final, gorgeous farewell bid by the light of day and a promise to return on the morrow.

"This....is nice..." he muttered as he strode along the streets of the city, his shimmering eyes glued to the heavens. The Akalak's itinerary was no where in particular, but he was wandering rather close to the gates of the city. For once, he did not have to worry about the snide glances the general populous aimed his way for carrying weapons, as they now filed to their homes and Inns, giving the Akalak a rare opportunity to just relax...but that relaxation was slightly interrupted when a solid crunch tore his attention away from the Heavens. The Akalak looked, and there before him was a man, armed with a longsword, eating an apple. Normally, this sight would be met with little intrigue on the part of the warrior, yet because they were in Zeltiva, this appearance sent a chill down the warrior's spine for two reasons.

First and foremost, the man was not dressed in the azure uniform of the Wave Guard...and second, this man was not among the fellow mercenaries Khal'iah worked with at the employ of the Denvali Quarter. No, this man was an oddity in the pacifist city, and the Akalak decided to say hello. He didn't know exactly to approach the man, but his careless discarding of the apple's core onto the city streets gave the Akalak a reason to speak up. "Excuse me sir." he stated simply. "I do believe you've dropped something." This was met with the Akalak pointing to the core that the man had thrown away; implying that he stop what he was doing and pick up his garbage...

A Duel in the Night(Kahl'iah)

Postby Ohirin on April 26th, 2013, 6:09 pm

Ohirin watched the apple core hit one of the buildings and bounce off, stopping just around 2 or 3 strides away from Ohirin. Ohirin kept walking, not thinking very much of the apple core. It would break down soon enough, and until then it would provide food for some animal that found it. When the man first spoke Ohirin looked over, but wasn't sure that he was being spoken to but the second part made him sure it was him. The man didn't sound like he was being confrontational, he just mentioned the throw. Ohirin turned around to look at the man that spoke. He was clearly an Akalak, the skin colour said as much. But he was rather short for an Akalak. He was also carrying weapons, and his hair was in dreadlocks and tied up in a ponytail.

Ohirin decided to take the two steps to the apple core to pick it up rather than make the man frustrated. “Alright, are you happy?” Ohirin asked the Akalak, with an impatient tone. I want to get back to walking, I don’t want to talk Ohirin thought, but he waited taking an extra moment to look at the man and to wait for a response. The white bandage was the next thing Ohirin noticed, a bit out of place and it didn't look to be to tight. He didn't comment on the bandage, he just looked for a second.

A Duel in the Night(Kahl'iah)

Postby Khal'iah on April 28th, 2013, 8:46 am

There wasn't much the Akalak had to say whilst the man went about hearkening to his words, though he had to admit that he was thoroughly pleased with himself. The violet-skinned warrior made no attempt to hide this self-pleasure that manifested in the form of a rather smug grin upon his countenance. When the man before him decided to reply, Khal'iah interpreted his tone as a tad hostile, which caused his smug grin to waver ever so slightly. Then, to top it off, it appeared as though the man had a staring problem, as his eyes were nearly plastered to the bandage that Khal'iah wore about his neck. Sure, it was out of place, yet it was also impolite for one to simply gawk at it. This led the Akalak to believe that the man before him was not raised with the slightest hint of manners, and being the confident warrior that he was, he had no problem informing the man of this.

"Not quite," he said, taking a challenging step forward. "I would be very much happy if your tone was a tad better. I would be happy if you didn't just throw your garbage about. I would be happy if you didn't have a staring problem...but it would appear as though you were raised without a shred of manners. That makes me very unhappy." In hindsight, Khal'iah knew he was laying it on a tad thick but he honestly didn't care. He didn't take well to attitudes and had no problem confronting anyone or anything that so much as gave him the wrong look.

"Now then, why don't you take a nice stroll to the University and browse the library? Assuming you can read, I'm sure you'll find a wonderful assortment of tomes on how to conduct yourself like a man and not a dog."

A Duel in the Night(Kahl'iah)

Postby Ohirin on April 28th, 2013, 5:56 pm

Ohirin looked at the look on the man’s face, the smug smile that the man had made Ohirin angry. He looked like he had won a battle of some sort. Come on man, Ohirin thought to himself, you are a man from the Diamond Clan, a warrior of the Drykas. Don't let this man tell you what to do. He saw the man's confidence build as he picked up the apple core. This truly angered Ohirin, the satisfaction that the man got out of simply having someone do what he said was infuriating. The man started talking and took a step forward as if to challenge Ohirin. Ohirin matched the step and moved his hand to the hilt of his sword. He let the man rant and lecture but didn't really listen to what the man had said. Only the insult at the end of the man’s rant had any real impact on Ohirin. This man was over confidant in Ohirins eyes and thought to comment on it.

“Over confidant fool.” Ohirin said in near perfect Pavi, and made all the hand signs to go along with it. The Pavi was accidental, but it felt natural to Ohirin and he didn't bother to repeat it in common speech. “Do you know what would happen to this apple core if I had left it on the ground? Some animal would have eaten it. It is not so much of a waste as putting it anywhere else.” Ohirin was really kind of grabbing at reasons to have thrown the apple core. It didn’t really matter any other person, or even if he just came with a different attitude, Ohirin wouldn’t have made a fuss but this man clearly wanted to anger him. And Ohirin didn't want to let the man tink he could disrespect him and just get away with it.

A Duel in the Night(Kahl'iah)

Postby Khal'iah on May 8th, 2013, 7:51 pm

Despite the fact that the violet-skinned warrior hailed from the city of Riverfall, which was only a stone's throw away from the Sea of Grass that housed the Drykas, he was woefully ignorant to the language that was prevalent outside of Riverfall: Pavi. However, though he had no understanding of the initial words and gestures that were formed by the one before him, Khal'iah was perceptive enough to take them offensively. As such, the Akalak took another bold step forward, his fingertips clenching the hilt of his longsword tightly before wrenching the weapon free of his belt. It's pristine blade was angled only a few inches from the flesh of the Drykas, and the Akalak's eyes narrowed as he contemplated rending him clean open.

"I don't know what you said boy, but if you're bold enough to talk trash, you're bold enough to draw." he snarled as adrenaline began to course heavily through his veins, urging him forward. "The way I see it, you've got two choices: Walk away while I'm still feeling merciful, or limp away. Take your pick."

At this point, the apple core was lost to the warrior's mind. Every fiber of the Akalak's being yearned for the Drykas to take the second of the options. He wanted to teach this buffoon a lesson, a cold, hard lesson that could only be instructed through steel meeting flesh.

A Duel in the Night(Kahl'iah)

Postby Ohirin on May 11th, 2013, 3:18 am

Ohirin, being less than smart as he was and very bull headed, missed the obvious distraction that he had in is hand. The apple core if thrown could prove useful but Ohirin happened not to think of it and just took two steps back. He didn't take the steps in a way to show that he had surrendered to the man's comments, but just to put a few more inches of space between himself and his opponent. He wordlessly threw the apple core on the ground and pulled his own sword out of his belt; it was of similar make as his opponents and obviously intended to be the same type weapon. The beautifully cared for lenticular blade glinting in the slight light still provided by the nearly set sun. Ohirin was pointing his blade at his opponent; his left foot pulled back, with most of his weight resting on it, and his right foot in the front, with very little weight on it, allowing him to transfer lots of weight from the back foot to the front to put lots of force into a swinging blow. Ohirin decide he would wait for his opponent to attack first to maybe give him a chance to rethink trying to attack him.
