A Man's Hope Is His Castle
Part One
Spring 2nd, 513 AV; 14th Bell
It was perfect. Small to begin with of course but perfect. There was no better place to begin to call his very own home once again. The couple that owned this place sold it as soon as the chance came, so they could flee Zeltiva when the plague hit hard. The elderly man spoke, his face and forehead showed heavy signs of wisdom as well as his hair color. There was a cough and wheeze but he still showed signs of life. Even though he was old he had managed to survive last season's epidemic, but not without cost of course. Everyone was now seeing the results the cloud of disease left now, and times never felt any harder for the city.
"I'll take it." Ricky confirmed with a small smile, finally happy with the thought of owning a place of his own once again. A sanctuary to retreat to when the day became overwhelming, a safe haven from the troubles of the world outside. If only those ideals were true, either way it was good knowing the guard was starting over again.
The old man cleared his throat. "Very well young'un, you got the coin?"
"Yes sir." Ricky nodded with a smile. There was small talk between his elder of course but the transaction soon came. The man walked away happy to sell off a piece of property he had no need for, and Ricky now owned two smalls rooms in a buildling complex within the old quarter. Things were definitely starting to look up this season.
