The morning started off so normal and ordinary. Yet from the moment she woke up, Elle knew it was a special day. For her that is. Most people would just go through the day, doing there tasks and getting through life. They would be unaware of the significance of the day. It would be nothing more or than the fourteenth of fall in the year five hundred and ten. But to Elle it was a day to be celebrated. For this day, this simple day, was Lorelle Snowsong's birthday.

Seventeen years ago this day, her small cries first range in the air giving off the song of a new life touching the icy world that was now her home. It was a day where her parents were finally able to rejoice for they had been able to have their first child. They were proud parents. One with loving hearts and a strong hand that did not tolerate anything. Parents that Elle didn't mind growing up with.

Now one might not think that another's seventeenth birthday is really all that much to make a fuss over. Certainly it is nothing more than another year of a person's life. It must mean nothing more than that they are now older and there time is slowly running out. Well some might think that, but Lorelle always made a big deal to make sure that she is remembered on her birthday  by everyone but her mother, Lana Snowsong.

Now Lana was a kind mother for the most part. But she did have one huge personal flaw. She always saw the negative in everything. Everything and everyone. Not exactly the kind of person you want around on the day of your birth. Even if she was the one that did the whole birthing thing. No, one her birthday Elle made a point to steer clear of the woman. Kind of hard to do when she lived in the same Arvinta with her. Still, she managed it. Spending time with her father instead.

Now her father, Colton Snowsong, was exactly what one wants in a father. Okay, what most want in a father. He was kind, loving, caring, and gentle. He was strong willed and easy to loose his temper, but for the most part he was easy to get along with. His eyes always seemed to show that he was at least a little happy. It was easy to make him laugh, but he was also serious when you needed him to be. He loved his wife and his daughter. They were the light of his world. He left his home in the Frostfawn hold for them long ago and he always said that it was the best choice he ever made.

On her birthday, her father was the person she wanted to spend the day with. She never questioned who was the parent to spend time with on this day. The other days she could get along with either of them, but on her birthday she wanted to spend the day with her father. No questions asked. So that is what she did after she woke up and prepared herself for the day. After saying good morning and hearing the words “happy birthday” from both of her parents, Elle headed out of the hold.

She took a walk as she contemplated how to get her mother out of the way so she could spend time with her father. If someone brought it up to her, she would have agreed that she sounded a little mean when she spoke or thought of her mother in such a way, but it was the truth. Lana was just not a woman who was pleasant to be around and over the years it has gotten worse and worse. Lorelle always wondered how her father could possibly fallen for such a woman. He was so bright and saw the good in everything and she was pretty much the exact opposite. Though she did have her moments when she acted like him. Those moments were few and scatter and above all, treasured by those who witnessed them.

A Sharp Present [Solo]

Postby Lorelle on April 30th, 2013, 5:51 am

After her morning walk around what part of Avanthal she felt like covering, Elle returned home. Her eyes were a shining gold color, showing that she was very happy. She stepped into the main part of the Arvinta and the first thing she noticed was that her mother was no where to be seen. Confused, Elle walked up to her father who was sitting down in his favorite chair reading something.

”Where’s mom?” she asked.

He father looked up at her. A playful gleam in his eyes.

“Out,” he answered, “She decided that she wanted to finally try out that flavored snow shop.”

Lorelle gave him a curious look, wondering how in the world he pulled that. Her mother never held any interest in such places unless dragged there by one of her few friends. Finally, after a chime or two, Elle decided to drop it. She shrugged and sat down. She looked at her father and watched as he kept on reading in the most mysterious of ways. A way that was not like him.

“What are you up to?” she asked, knowing he was hiding something.

Colton looked at her, that same sly look in his eyes. She could easily tell that he was up to something. After smirking and finishing his currant page in his book, he finally got up. He put his book down and walked over the hearth. He started pulling at something, but hiding whatever it was with his body so that Elle could not see from her position.

The Vantha man finally finished and he walked back over to Elle, carefully caring something long and covered in his hands. He sat down next to her and handed her the object.

“Careful,” he warned, “its sharp.”

After giving him a curious look, Elle looked down to the object in her hands. Slowly she removed the cloth covering it and revealed the object. In her lap was a weapon that was roughly three feet long. At least a little over a third of that length was taken up by a handle inlaid with glass. It was a sword, a talon sword to be exact. Lorelle recognized it because she saw such a sword when in Wind Reach many years before.

The dark haired Vantha looked at her father. She picked up the sword, holding it gingerly. She took a closer look at it. It wasn’t really extremely special. Just very rare in such a place as Avanthal.

“Where did you get this?” she asked.

Her father sat back and sighed.

“Wind Reach,” he answered, “When we went there a few years back. I liked them and I thought that maybe someday you might want or have a need for it.”

Lorelle looked over at her father and rolled her eyes.

“Your worried about me aren’t you?” she asked.

Colton chuckled.

“More so now that you have a deadly weapon in your hand and no idea how to use it,” he answered.

Elle smiled mischievously.

“Yes I do!” she agreed, “So you better watch out or I could take you out with one simple swing.”

She laughed and rolled her eyes, feeling childish like that little girl who once visited the exotic land of Wind Reach.

“Will you help me learn how to use it?” she asked, looking over at him.

He looked back over at her and let out a small laugh.

”And what makes you think I know how to use it or anything like it?” he questioned.

Elle gave him a look that said ‘really? you are going to pull that?’.

“Come on dad, I know you. You would never give me something that you didn’t know how to use at least a little bit,” she tried to point out.

Colton shrugged.

”Well little darling you are wrong, because I haven’t the faintest idea,” he admitted, “You better go find a tree to spar with.”

Lorelle gave him a look and then groaned. She stood up and set the sword down against the wall.

“Oh Elle,” her father called to her before she was able to disappear into a different room, “Don’t tell your mother, she’ll kill me if she ever finds out.”

Elle looked back at him and nodded, for she knew that this was true. She grabbed the sword and disappeared into her room without another word to him or anyone. She hid the sword in a safe spot within her room before slumping onto her bed and letting out a groan.

“What use is a sword that I don’t know how to use?” She mentally asked herself, “Guess you are just going to have to teach yourself or find someone who knows something.”

With a new fire behind her eyes, Elle got up and started towards the sword’s hiding place. Right when she was about to get to it, she heard her mother enter the home. Rushing back to her bed and grabbing her flute -which was the closest thing to her bed at this moment- she began playing, as if she had been doing that all day.

This was going to be a challenge, Elle knew this. But lucky for her, Elle has always loved a challenge.

.:End:.
