Highshoal Pod The Highshoals are a relatively small pod of animal oriented herders. Though they specialize in herding Keai, it is not uncommon to see a couple of pods of dolphins or whales flocking to this pod, drawn in by their playful, caring aura. They are seasonal migrants from one coast to another which keeps their lives interesting as they frequently encounter traders and other Svefra pods. Their greatest celebration takes place mid-summer as their females collectively give birth to a wealth of calves. The current Lia of this pod is Sirenia Highshoal, direct descendant of Tallye herself. She has an eye for the care of animals, able to pick out a sick animal, before it even begins to deteriorate, and nurse it back to health within days. She lives upon a humble casinor to which she has attached a pair of of balances so that when an animal is placed upon the stretched net on the other side of her boat, it is not capsized. But this does not make her weak. Sirenia is a very tough negotiator, and her usually peaceful pod will exact vengeance upon any who disrespect the realm of Laviku within their sight whether it be dumping unknown toxins or hunting down animals and taking only parts, instead of the whole. Pod Overview A rather small, specialized pod, the Highshoals have devoted their lives to raising Keai in the lush shallows.This pod is very work oriented, but celebrates twice season when their trading ships return from the Flotilla. One of the less known pods, the Highshoals tend to remain greatly isolated and detached from the affairs of the main trading parties, tending instead to devote their time to tending herds of Keai. Currently, the Highshoals graze just under 50 cows, moving them slowly in a cycle through the season. Three ships are in charge of maintaining the herd's boundary - while near a coast -with thick, weighted nets so that any unwanted males are unable to enter the herd and impregnate the females. When traveling, it is up to all of the entire pod to keep the Keai together - though little would separate an established herd save for shark attacks. Over the years, they have gotten so selective with their breeding that Highshoal Keai are a slight bit heavier than their fellows, and ever so slightly more docile. Brief History This pod was founded by Tallye Highshoal, her two siblings, and their partners in 429 AV. Over time, more Svefra joined this pod seeking a more peaceful life, causing it to grow to its current size. The pod has never been forced rebuild their herd completely from scratch due to their fervent prayers to Laviku and his favor. Traditions and Beliefs This pod tends to be made up of Svefra who feel more comfortable with their pod and their Tavan than outsiders - even other Svefra. Highshoals tend to be skilled in Animal Husbandry and Herbalism as they are always looking to create natural supplements that nurse bigger, stronger Keai. Highshoals are utterly devoted to Laviku and Caiyha, welcoming any priest or priestess of the god and goddess with open arms. This pod strives to keep their herds safe, happy, and growing and will rarely let anything get in their way. Midsummer Festival While passing through the kelp forest, the pod will stop and within a period of 10 days, a majority of the females will give birth. During this time, the Highshoals will have a time of constant feasting, music, singing and dancing. The rhythms of singing and dancing on decks is said to soothe the mothers. After the majority of the females give birth, the Highshoals will have a night of true, unbridled party. The next morning, they will continue sailing towards Cyphrus and any mothers that did not give birth while in the kelp forest will be forced to do so in open water. An affair that often causes the pod to grind to a halt to watch over the mother while she is vulnerable. Usual Location The Highshoals can be found on the coast of Falyndar during the Spring, cross the Southern Suvan during the last weeks of Summer, spend fall on the coast of Cyphrus, then return during the last weeks of Winter. Okay, for the NPCs, just one last thing (sorry I missed it!). Conner can't have 'no pod'. The Svefra make it a point to force any of their kind with no pod into one. His history is nice though so perhaps you could still keep that, just add something to the current situation and perhaps make him part of one now.

Classification: Fauna
Frequency: Uncommon in the wild, more common if you know a breeder.
Most Commonly Found: Near islands or coasts.

Appearance: Overall, both sexes have lean, muscular bodies with flesh that appears to resemble a porpoise's very closely. They have long, thick tails - much like that of an otter - that help them to swim more quickly and more controlled. Adorning their head and neck, along with their chests and hackles upon reaching maturity, are large, diamond shaped scales that will raise when agitated. Females are a great deal smaller than males and but have longer torsos in order to safely hold pups without bloating too much. Males have stouter, more muscled bodies as well as long quills that descend from the crown of their head to the center between their shoulders. These quills will stand straight up and quiver if the Wolf feels threatened or are trying to attract a mate. Males are brightly colored, exhibiting bright reds, blues, greens, and yellows. Females are more of a stony gray with accents of white. Their paws are scaled and webbed like a waterfowl with long, fierce looking claws. These creatures do not have gills but can hold their breath for as long as most humans.

Uses: These sea-dwelling mammals have been adopted by the Svefra as ship guards, companions, and wardogs.

Nature and Habits: In the wild, these creatures are frequently found traveling in packs up to 10 with an alpha male and female leading the pack. The alphas are the only ones that breed - any other pups will be killed - so that the pups can be raised in a healthy environment with plenty of protection. They are fiercely territorial, but - if not directly threatened - are very sociable and friendly. At night, it is not unusual to hear these creatures howling across the waves - a sound quite similar to whale songs.

Name: Pingere Paintedtide Race: Svefra Description: A rather old man who has mastered the art of tattooing. He went bald years ago but still manages to keep a perfect mustache - something he is often vain about. Despite his age, Pingere is still very fit and is always willing to lend a hand around the Anchorage Flotilla where he lives upon a rather large palivar with the woman whom he has loved since childhood, a daughter and two grandchildren, and a couple of other pairings with their children. Tidesong pod Motion and breath compose the songs of life. - Nostra Tidesong Music, dance, stories, life. All of these things are held close by those of the Tidesong Pod. Often hopeless romantics, the Tidesongs have a real knack for composing beautiful songs and dances that exemplify a specific emotion or memory. The current Lia of this pod is Tona Tidesong, an elderly woman who can still bring a tear to a crowd's eye with naught but her trilling voice. Members of this pod tend to congregate upon the Flotilla but will just as frequently be seen in the taverns, streets, and docks of costal cities from Karjin to Riverfall. This pod will often seek to witness adventure or great marvels in order to craft their works. Pod Overview Patrons of the ephemeral art, the Tidesong pod is full of dancers, musicians, and storytellers. Brief History This pod was founded in 473 AV by Nostra Whitewave, younger sister of Livna Paintedtide. When her sister created the Paintedtide pod, Nostra began to contemplate a pod of her own; one that favored the more transient arts. At first, the sisters disagreed harshly about their philosophies, Livna claiming that her sister was just chasing her own wakes and that dancing, singing, and storytelling were not true artforms. The disagreement lasted only a season or so before the sisters settled their differences and decided simply to live on opposite sides of the Flotilla to keep from bothering one another too much. This pod does not grow as quickly as the Paintedtides but seems to have a fair number of Svefra joining from other pods. Traditions and Beliefs Usual Location Members In Development

Paintedtide Pod Lovers of art and one another, the Paintedtides are a vastly creative pod where one can practice their art among fellows. The pod tends to be made up of Svefra who are driven by emotion and passion, thinking logic to be an enemy of creativity for there are only so many logical pieces of art to be created. The current Lia is Wen Paintedtide, a stout woman of 68 who is well known for her lifelike sketches. It is highly uncommon to see large groups of members of this pod anywhere other than the Flotilla. Pod Overview A rather young but prosperous pod, the Paintedtides have made a reputation for themselves for capturing life itself in various forms. This pod includes painters, sculptors, carvers of small stone and coral trinkets, jewlers, tattoo artists, cloth weavers and everything else under Syna's gaze. The pod tends to be very out-spoken and artistic, sometimes seen as trouble-makers because they will often abandon their duties - maintaining the ship, taking their turn to cook the communal meals, taking their turn in caring for the gaggle of younglings - to capture whatever has inspired them at the moment. This pod is very sociable and welcoming of outsiders, often trading Svefran art for various stories or descriptions of life on land that inspire them. This rowdy bunch of souls can often be seen as a nuisance as they wake early every morning - hustling and bustling about as they attempt to catch the sunrise or other morning occurrences- and retire rather late each night - after a loud, raucous bonfire. Aside from that, they are always running from deck to deck, asking people to "hold it right there" while they jot down a quick sketch or description for later before darting off again. Brief History This pod was founded in 472 AV by Livna Whitewave. The pod was created upon the Anchorage Flotilla as Livna noticed that more and more Svefra artists were congregating upon the Flotilla to share their art and commune with others from other pods with the same interest. After its creation, the pod's population has continuously fluctuated as children are born and new members join. Traditions and Beliefs Strongly devoted to Laviku along with Caiyha, Akvin, Syna, and Leth. Nysel is also worshipped because many Paintedtide paint the surreal scapes or suddenly touching symbols that they view while immersed in slumber and will pray to Nysel for beautiful, inspiring dreams. Every season, the pod will gather to share their favorite work of that season with others in order to be inspired by and inspire others. Members tend to specialize in: drawing, jewelcrafting, tattooing, painting, and even sewing Because of their free-spirited nature, Paintedtides will often secure passage on vessels setting out from the Anchorage - often by trading crew-manship or their art - to explore and see more before returning a short time later, minds full of beauty that they must capture and share. It is also not uncommon for members of other pods to join the Paintedtides in order to gain mentorship by the older and vastly talented members of the pod and company with others of similar interests. By the same standards, members of the pod who are naturally not inclined to the arts will seek out a life in another pod. Typical male-female relationships - even those as loose as held by common Svefra - are not usually seen within the Paintedtide pod; members are very free with their love and affections which has led to a surplus of children with often unknown parentage. This pod is not fond of music or other ephemeral forms of art, preferring instead to create something that will last and can summon a memory whenever viewed by its owner. Members of the Paintedtide pod tend to be quite decorated with tattoos and piercings, turning even their bodies into walking forms of art. Pod members will often imitate the inspiring art of another, putting their own spin or style into the art so that they are only mildly related in the end. Usual Location The vast majority of the pod lives together upon the Anchorage between 6 palivars that lie just outside of the inner circle which allows them to interact easily with those that come and go.
