Lavine put her hand to her face in shock. He had really scratched her, like a feral cat! She wiped the scratch again, but the blood hd already stopped and dried by now. It clearly wasn't serious, but it angered her further that he had landed a blow at all. She spit out her words with as much vigor as she could muster. "That's it. You asked for it!"
She swung her arm in a wide circle, winding up. Then, she launched a powerful blow to his shoulder. The impact was felt all the way back to her own shoulder so strong she wasn't sure who was hurt more; him or her. She heard a sickening crack and her heart jumped. I couldn't have done that. No, no... She stumbled back in the darkness and tripped over something unseen. Fear gripped her. Glass cut into her arms and knees where she'd fallen. She held up the remains to the light, turning it this way and that. Suddenly, she realized what it was. A broken picture frame. She must have shattered it during her punch. That would explain the sound too. A split-second of relief washed over her before her battle instincts kicked in again.
Her palms scraped the floor until she had gathered a good sized piece of glass. She held up the shimmering shard as though it were a dagger. Moonlight bounced through the still open window and gleamed off the glass, creating a shower of light across the room. Lavine said nothing, hoping he would understand and leave. She knew in her heart he wouldn't though. He was far too proud.
