We Gotta Stick Together (Ricky)

Postby Ethan on December 14th, 2012, 8:00 am

The thick heavy fog that invaded the coastline earlier that afternoon still kept an oppressive grip on the area late into the night. Fog always made Ethan a bit restless, so he tended to take flight whenever it settled in. It was a subtle mixture of claustrophobia and excitement. He often felt the same way in Syliras. The granite ceilings were so absolute and overbearing. But he knew past the parapets and cold stone. Was the sky and all it's wonders.

Gently dipping his wings the Lammergeier descended into the mountain-like banks of fog, leaving behind the crisp night sky peppered with stars. He, along with a friend and fellow Wave Guard were on Patrol Duty that night. With a bit of difficulty he navigated his way into the concealed city and finally onto the rooftop of the home he shared with Hadrian. Unlike his more natural feathered brethren. Ethan didn't to have the spot on sense of direction and was quite lost without landmarks. At times he wondered if it was because Lammergeiers weren't pidgeons or that the gods didn't feel generous enough to bestow Kelvics with all the natural gifts their form entitled them.

He arrived at his post clad in the light blue garb of the Wave Guard. Spear and Shield in hand he wanted for his partner.

We Gotta Stick Together (Ricky)

Part 2.1 of The Part of Moving On
Winter 20th 512, 22nd Bell
Anger is another ordeal we have to face, when we all finally begin to face the truth; we become angry. Our emotions grow hotter with each question as to how and why, only to find that those reasons are just what they are. We begin to feel rage and even hate to what had happened, and when we least realize it; that anger can become a danger to ourselves and our closest ones...

Ricky felt rather miffed about himself really, for reasons he couldn't really tell. It was nothing major, just a slight anger build up he was starting to have. He had been thinking about his loss and the other outcomes that could've happened, and yet not a single one did except the worst. He began to hate himself for it too, as well as being in the state he was in before. Denying everything was pointless to him and changed nothing, the facts were written in stone as was history.

He was in the Fish Market meeting with his fellow companion for the eve, their shift was stationed together so they could patrol the market with ease. Why that was Ricky didn't know, maybe they just threw the two as a pair and didn't wish to worry about it. Waste not what not right?

Whatever it was Ricky was here on this foggy eve and this Ethan he was meeting was already waiting, both bearing their equipment of arms for their patrol. For Ricky it was simply his iron longsword, somewhat rusty to show its character from the adventure he had. Both were clad in the uniform they were suppose to wear of course, the cerulean badge of honor as Ricky referred it. When he came close to Ethan he kept a loose smile to make his approach seem friendly. "Ethan, correct? I'm Ricky, yer partner for the eve." He kept a friendly tone but the humbleness he usually had was absent, his mind still rather troubled at all the problematic thoughts on his life. A stressful time for the fisherman really, for grief could never have hit harder then the storm that has become.

We Gotta Stick Together (Ricky)

"Nice to meet you Ricky." He smiled and nodded a hello. Ethan rarely shook hands anymore due to his Auristic training. When used for long periods of time it was hard to turn off, and small bits of information boiled up unprovoked. Especially when in physical contact with another person. It made him seem a bit awkward with people but most didn't seem to mind, or at least didn't say anything.

"Beautiful night isn't it?" Ethan said with a crooked grin. "Don't know why they have us out here. We can barely see ten feet."

"Nice to meet you Ricky." He said with a nod, which was fine as well for those who didn't shake hands much. Ricky did his best to keep a friendly face in his grim mood he had. "Beautiful night isn't it? Don't know why they have out out here. We can barely see ten feet." He remarked with a smile.

"We're just doin our duty as guardsmen, which is protectin our very home." He assured Ethan with shivers, crossing his arms to keep his hands tucked in their warmth. He could see the moisture of his breath as he would exhale, as he tried his best to control the shakes that coursed from his spine. "It'd be a bloody blessin if it were warmer, that's for damn sure." He stated in an attempt to keep the mood light, hopefully remove some of the glum as well as the anger that was built inside.

"How long have ye been on the job?" He asked curiously, looking around the dense fog to find nothing of course; that's generally what fogs are for. He thought little of it though, as he was now on duty. Distractions weren't necessary at this time, but certainly getting to know a fellow guard was crucial for future posts.

We Gotta Stick Together (Ricky)

A grin was his only response to such stern dedication. Ethan had always been fascinated by such individuals. The kinds of people that stuck to their path no matter the outcome. It was, in his opinion, the one redeeming quality in Humankind.

"At this post or as a guardsmen in general? I joined the Guard in the middle of last season. Needed to put food on the table and such. And I got here a little before midnight. A miracle I was able to find my way." He waited for Ricky to reply with a similar response, as was custom in dealings with Humans.

You squawked, they squawked, you squawked and so forth until a topic arose with the potential to create a connection between both individuals. It was a rather lockstep and tedious affair. One that Ethan tried to avoid at all costs. But when he joined the Wave Guard and such conversations were mandatory and could stretch on for hours. He found it a necessity to spice things up. Accelerate the conversation so to speak.

"It isn't a roaring flame, but it'll warm you up quick enough." He said producing a flask from his doublet pocket.

Ricky listened to Ethan and sure enough the man had a sense of interest, choosing to be a Wave Guard to put food on the table seemed such a simple enough reason; in truth it actually made Ricky wish his was that simple. What could've been a fun simple job for him and his dog to share changed into a career that meant a greater deal than any other. All because one mistake that happened on Ricky's part, and for that Odis was the one who paid the price. "Aye, this job would've been more of a enlightenment if I hadn't lost someone close to me." He said as he took the flask, he held it up with a easy grin to follow. "Cheers."

Ricky took two good swigs of the alcoholic beverage, sighing in relief as he felt its continuous burn down his throat and to his chest. It was that burn that made the emotional pain seem to disentigrate, and bring about a welcome warmth he generally enjoyed. "If I didn't know better, I'd say that's Kelp Beer by the taste of it." He pointed out with a curious look, and handed the flask back to Ethan.

We Gotta Stick Together (Ricky)

Ethan took note of the subtle expressions coupled with his words. There was no need for Auristics with such visible signs of pain. Keeping any comments or words of condolences to himself. He stored away the information for later when it was needed. Building the foundation of friendship was quick and simple when using someone's suffering. But it made for too close of a bond later on. Ethan liked to keep things uncomplicated, but open enough for manipulation if the need arise.

"Nah, I stay away from that fish piss as much as I can. It's just a bit of rum. You can always swindle a bottle or two from incoming ships if you're nice about it." In truth Ethan had grown found of drink ever since he settled in Zelvita. Staying in one place made him uneasy, especially somewhere so close to the sea. It helped sooth the night terrors so he made a point of nicking it from any ship he came across not willing to toss him a bottle.

"Nah, I stay away from that fish piss as much as I can. Its just a bit of rum. You can swindle a bottle or two from incoming ships if you're nice enough about it." Ethan spoke like he'd been doing it for a while now, being in the uniform longer than Ricky he no doubt had better bearings of the job as well.

"I heard that mate." He chuckled in agreement, Kelp Beer no doubt had a vulgar taste. One Ricky preferably didn't favor, but fought past in order to find its burning warmth soothing his chest. Although alcohol did that period. He still enjoyed the taste of rum though now that his thirst had been sated, and he was ready to tackle on whatever their post brought them; though Ricky doubted anything exciting would happen.

Ricky had been doing his job since the near end of last season. Therefore he knew well enough nothing troubling would usually happen, unless there would be a criminal about who dared venture into what they found bold. Ricky always kept a mindful thought of the chance there being a thief in the night, for that chance would always exist in every corner of town. Namely East Street, but then again the bold can dare elsewhere...

Skill XP Reward
Philosophy +1XP

Lore:
The Anger Builds
Alcohol Takes It's Hold
Veteran In Training

Items or Consequences:
This is no command, but rather a suggestion. If Ricky ever tries to stop drinking you ought to give him some hell, as well as perhaps encouraging a stronger take to alcohol in times of stress.

Notes: None

(So random difficult writing tip that could improve your writing significantly, if you are willing to kick it up a notch. "To be" words (is, am, are, was, were, be, being, been) are evil and if you attempted to work all of your sentences so that there were a minimum amount of these words used I can almost assure you your writing would improve. Try it some time, it is fun. :) In your character sheet it seems to me that both investigation and philosophy should be in the mental skills category.) - if you have ANY questions or concerns about this grading, please PM me.
