5th Day of Summer 510 AV

It was within the confines of a small apartment on Traveler's row in which she awoke that morning. Apartment 14 to be exact. She was not alone, however. Her new companion, Keorvic, lay at her side. She felt very strange about this too, she had never kept the same man as a bed warmer for so long. Oh well, it didn't matter. She was having fun with him, and wanted to keep him around for some reason, she wasn't sure why. She looked away from the ceiling now, which she had been staring at in thought for a good fifteen minutes now, thinking about this and that, and all the complexities of life, all uncharacteristic for an easily distracted cat-girl to be contemplating.

Dim light shone through the window, thick with dust, caked on from lack of cleaning. It was still too early to go out really, or so that's what she had been taught by society. Kipps lay curled up at the foot of the bed. His tail twitched and swayed a different direction every so often, his claws digging into the soft material of the bed.

She stood up, walking over the the chair. She picked up her skirt and blouse that had been draped over the back of the chair. She never liked putting them on, she didn't see why it was necessary, but she knew it was. The humans did not like it when she didn't wear clothes, though occasionally she did find herself undressed in public for this and that reason. Sometimes drunken-ness, sometimes shapeshifting, and sometimes she just didn't know.

She sighed and put the clothes back where she had picked them up from. She could enjoy herself for now, and the little freedom she kept for herself in this small apartment in the city's wall. She walked over to the window. There wasn't much to see, other than the Kabrin Road and a few knights, finishing their nightly patrols. The sun was just level with the horizon, casting a purple-orange glow across the land, shadowed in the regions closer to the ground by a blue blanket.

She was excited about today. Today they went shopping. She was sure she'd find all sorts of shinies scattered throughout the city to buy, and while she would much rather just take them, she knew she couldn't steal while she was here. Not while she was in her home city. She was hoping to find something pretty to entertain her, like a mirror, or maybe even a hat. She had enough knives for now, she thought. But she never knew, they were very shiny.

One thing was for sure, she needed a bow. She had encountered other hunters on her adventures using bows to hunt with. They seemed a lot more efficient than her daggers, which she used to kill the target animal once she got close enough to them, which wasn't always easy. It didn't always work, sometimes she didn't catch things. And as a cat no bigger than your average housecat, the only things she could catch were mice, squirrels, and the occasional rabbit. While it was enough for her, she now had a total of three mouths to feed. She was sure Keorvic could feed himself, if not by selling his trinkets, then surely by fishing.

But she wanted to. She wanted to feel useful, like she was contributing. She wanted to keep this one around, for some reason unknown, and she felt like she should do something for him, so she would take up archery and learn to be a better hunter. It's all she could really do, other than entertain him, but she was sure he'd get tired of that eventually.

She sighed again and walked into the living area. It was plainly decorated with simple furniture. She walked across the room and sat in a wooden chair, it creaked when she put her weight on it. Could he possibly feel this strange feeling she was feeling now too? She couldn't tell, she thought maybe she could possibly just be sick.

Kipps was awake now. He sauntered in through the doorway, stretching at her feet. It had to be about the 8th bell by now. She reached down to stroke his back and scratch behind his ears. He leaned his head into her hand, relishing the attention. She laughed to herself and suddenly noticed something under the couch. She walked over to the couch and got down on all fours, looking under the couch. She was so pre-occupied with figuring out what it was she was looking for that she didn't notice her vulnerable position.

Within the City (Akiva, Keorvic)

Postby Keorvic on June 21st, 2010, 12:49 am

Keorvic woke slowly, the lethargy of a heavy fulfilling sleep brought about by drinking followed by athletic activity right before bed falling slowly from him. stretching, he rolled towards where his exotic companion would have been laying. with a slight groan, he opened his eyes and looked around. He didn't see her anywhere, but judging from the light filtering through the filthy window, it was still relatively early. "well, not early for a fisherman, but I bet she hasn't left yet." He rolled out of bed and looked around, trying to spot where Akiva might have tossed his trousers. finally spotting them hanging from an unlit wall sconce, he grabbed them and pulled them on. he felt something brush past his legs, and with a start he turned, expecting to see a rat or something, but it was just kipps. "I hope you are just a cat. either way, you got quite a show last night eh?" he said quietly to to the cat. hearing sounds of movement in the other room, he pushed the door open, and looked out at the living area. his eyes were immediately drawn to Akiva's unclad rear end waggling around in the air, with her legs spread just enough to bare everything. grinning, he leaned against the door frame, and decided to wait and just enjoy the view.

She reached under the couch as far as she could, but her arms were just short enough to not be able to reach whatever it was she was seeing. She stretched harder, pressing her upper body against the floor as she did so. She could barely touch it, but that was enough. She dragged it out by a small piece and held it cupped in her hands. It was a small piece of discarded metal. She wasn't sure what kind, but it didn't appear to be useful at all. She sighed in disappointment, setting it off to the side. She turned around to see Keorvic standing in the bedroom doorway, and remembering her previous show, became slightly flushed. She had never really felt like that before, it wasn't exactly a shame, more like a timidness. It made her feel silly.

She stood up quickly, dusting her knees off after she had straightened out.
"Morning," she said with a smile. "How did you sleep?" She walked past him back into the bedroom, grabbing her clothes off of the chair again. She slipped her skirt and blouse on, not bothering to put shoes on. She also didn't bother with her daggers, she didn't think she'd need any protection for this trip to the city. "The shops should open soon, if they haven't already. Things seem to start pretty early around here."

She thought about the various shops the city contained, and the various merchants selling their goods. She desperately hoped she wouldn't see that particular pair of humans who had given birth to her. She wasn't sure why, but she seemed to be repelled by them. She wanted nothing to do with them. Maybe it was that they were nothing like her, not even physically. She was still confused as to how she was Kelvic, yet both of them were human. She had had it explained to her multiple times, but couldn't seem to grasp the concept.

"We should stop by a bow and arrow shop today," she told him passively, not remembering the name of the shop. "I would like to pick up archery, for hunting maybe, or just for fun."

Kipps had half followed her into the room again, stopping to rub up against Keorvic's legs before walking through the room to jump onto the bed again. He lay there cleaning himself as she combed through her hair, getting all the tangles of the night out.

Keorvic smiled widely at Akiva's blush. few things could catch his heart the way this girl just had. Watching her precise strides as she stalked past him, he was reminded of a snow leopard he saw hunting once; every movement exact and without hesitation. he turned and followed her back to the bedroom.he watched her smooth movements as she dressed rapidly. "I slept quite soundly actually, and deeply too. I am still a mite sore to be honest. Did you sleep well? you must have been tired after such an amazing display of.." he trailed off, knowing that she knew of what he was speaking.

not waiting for an answer, he moved to put on his shirt and strap on his leather jerkin. "Yes, surely the bazaar will wake up early. And I'm sure we will find a suitable archery shop if we look enough." he replied. "I also have a few purchases I wish to make." He had lost the short length of pipe he normally used for setting his rod a few weeks back when he had carelessly packed his things after a terrifying night in a cave he had thought to be unoccupied. he had also heard of such things bait other than live worms, which would speed things up greatly, and allow him to not be forced to search around for bait. "I want to see if there is anyone around who can sell some bait, and see the sights of the city, to be honest. I have never been in such a big city."

She was more excited than she showed about their upcoming trip into the city until then. "I slept well, I'm pretty excited too, I'm sure they will have all kinds of shiny things, and hats maybe, and mirrors and dice and other things," she said, sitting on the bed. She was fidgeting a little, as if it were impossible for her to sit still. Kipps came over to her, sniffing her thoroughly before rubbing up against her. She giggled as his nose tickled her, but reached over to pull him onto her lap. "Oh Kipps. Do you want to go too?" He bit her lightly, which was usually his way of saying yes, or sometimes no, while she wasn't able to communicate with him. Or someetimes he just bit her to get her attention, but this time she was pretty sure it was a yes. She looked up to Keorvic again, "are you about ready to go now?"

"Ready as I'll ever be. lets go." Keorvic said, hoisting hit pack onto his back. he turned to leave, he looked around the room to check one last time and make sure he had everything he could carry. he decided to leave his fishing pole here, but he didn't trust the place with any of his other valuables. "You might want to gather things, I know this is supposedly a well patrolled city, but thievery and burglary are probably rampant. this IS a big city after all." He said to Akiva. with that, he walked out the door, and headed towards the market, knowing that with the few shiny pieces of metal he had affixed to his pack the night before would keep her interested and following him all the way and he could pick out his fishing gear first.

She didn't really have much that was valuable, but took most of what she owned, leaving her toiletries, extra clothes, and most of her weapons there. She wanted an empty backpack, except for her money, so that if she picked up anything along the way she could put it in there. Her mizas clacked and jingled at the bottom of her backpack in the purse she had put them in. I need to get rid of these. As Keorvic opened the door and walked out, she saw a glint of something shiny dangling from his pack. She followed eagerly, trying to see what they were. Kipps followed indifferently, she knew he would wander off to catch rats soon enough. She closed the door behind them, locking it with the small brass key.

Keorvic smiled to himself as he heard his alluring companion scamper after him, pausing only long enough to lock the door. her footsteps quickly resumed as the small kelvic had to hurry to keep up with the fast pace he set. He wanted to be done with the shopping relatively soon, at least by mid day, so that he could explore the rest of the city without feeling rushed. He took several turns at random, trying to find a main thoroughfare, and decided to just follow the flow of people for a while.

After several minutes of aimless wandering, he had slowed his pace more than enough so that Akiva could catch up. he didn't want to anger her, after all. he slowed even more as he realized how incredibly lost he was. he knew he had seen a fisherman's stall on the way in, but now he didn't even know if he would be able to find his way back to the inn they were staying at. Keorvic turned sheepishly to Akiva, "So, uh, you wouldn't happen to know where we are? I was heading for a fisherman's stall, but I seem to have taken a wrong turn or two." he hoped the cat kelvic would have an easier time finding her way through the city, as he no longer felt confident.

She smirked, seeing her fisherman lost and in need of help. "Follow me. It's probably in the bazaar." She led him through the streets of Syliras to the best of her memory, taking a wrong turn here and there. Once she walked into a Knight, to which she earned a harsh, "Watch it." Finally they reached the bazaar. She led him through the crowd that was already gathering until she saw a booth lined with various types of fhishing poles. Fishing supplies were sitting out on the table and on all corners and walls of the booth. "Here we are, have a look around. I'd like to find a place to buy a bow afterward." She looked around as she allowed him time to look around, if looking was what he needed. She imagined he knew what he had come for, but she would entertain herself anyway. To the left of the booth she saw a makeshift tavern type place. There was a single counter with some barstools. She walked up to the bar. We'll need some alcohol for the trip... she thought, and ordered three gallons. Sure it wouldn't be enough, but she could use the containers to fill with water once they were empty. She headed back to the fishing stall to wait for Keorvic.

Keorvic was disappointed. "I should have known a city like this would not have anyone who knows how to fish in it." he thought to himself. the quality of the lures and baits available were all terrible, save for some non-perishable bait of medium quality that he decided might be worth a gold miza or two. grumbling, he also handed over an extra miza for a relatively good quality spare hook. tucking it all into his pack, he left the stall to search for Akiva. as he stepped back into the street, something rolled under his foot. looking down, it was a small hollow length of brass pipe. thinking it might be useful, he bent down and retrieved it. Straightening up, he spotted Akiva, and headed straight for her.
