46th of Spring 513 AV

If there was anything that Ehati didn't actually like about her duties as a knight, it was that she was sometimes stuck doing the most horrible things and really didn't have much of a say in the matter. This day, for instance. She was stuck in the mine, watching over the prisoners sentenced to work it for whatever crimes they had done, unable whatsoever to go outside and patrol with the other wings in her company.

It wasn't so bad, in a way, though. There were others here that she knew, mainly the members of her wing also stuck in this godsforsaken mine. It was the absence of the sky that she longed for most of all. It was that freedom, the breathless wind, and the birds that she missed. She disliked the cramped conditions and the smell of manual labour, but she persevered. This was to be her first day, she knew that, but there were only so many days this season she would have to deal with this place. Fifteen days, that was it. Five days at a time and then two of rest and the next five on patrol where she liked being.

"Ehati, take over down in the Deep," Ehati was startled out of her mute complaining and turned to see one of her fellows, a woman with an air of exhaustion on her face. "I need to breathe. Those vagiks down below don't know how to wash themselves, I swear." Ehati smiled, although it was wan and meaningless. She didn't want to go Deeper, but she could see the expression in the face of the other knight and felt something like pity for her.

"Make it back fast," she said, nodding her assent and striding past the other woman. Her tone suggested displeasure, but she left no room for the other to reciprocate. She had no patience for this, but if the woman was really that tired, fine. Ehati hoped she wouldn't have to deal with these people for long down there.

Her walk was purposeful, matched with an intense glare that gave her woodland eyes something of a dour cast. She looked much more like a bird with that expression than anything else, but it suited her. She was a bird, delving deeper into the ground away from the sky she loved so dearly.

The part of the mine she was going to wasn't the deepest part. There were places, down in the utter bowels of the earth, where only the worst were sentenced to work. They were guarded by knights better than she, and that was how she liked it. She couldn't imagine being stuck so far down there...

She smiled grimly at a few of the actual workers, the men having a cheerier pallour to their faces than the sentenced. They did this for a living, in a way she could respect that.

Arriving at the Deep, Ehati surveyed the area. The roof was low, almost far too low for any average sized human, but it suited her just fine. She was short, naturally, and had no problem navigating the cramped space.

There were a multitude of bodies, picking away at the wall and loading ores into wagons for delivery to the Above. She eyed them critically, impressing upon them that she wouldn't tolerate any foolishness, and began to stride among their number with purpose, making it clear that she absolutely didn't want to be there and that if they made this any worse for her, she would make it far worse for them, or at least as far worse as her knightly pride would allow.

This day had been exhilarating. That word, in itself was a total understatement. K had been unstable the past few days, his emotions getting the best of him, but today was a pleasant one for him. He reverted back to his original state, running around, pranking, joking, flirting and doing everything he used to do when he was younger. Before he became a squire and joins the ranks of the uppity, the ranks of those who feared disturbing the peace. As a future and aspiring knight, he too enjoyed keeping the peace, but he himself also knew that a few jokes ere and there is what made Syliras amazing. Pranking... Living life on the edge... Even free running and prancing around the city at high speeds to escape the clutches of scolding knights. The thrill... It was well deserved. So why was here here?

Here being him getting dragged by his shirt, clutched in the grasp of Ser Corben, his patron. Normally they were friendly to each other, but sometimes Ser Corben had to do his job and be the older figure slash example from time to time. Now, why would he be getting carried along to the mines? Why would he be taken here? For punishment. His patron hadn't told him the full details, but he kept a smile on his face. K on the other hand was disgusted, seeing the demonic smile on his masters face. "Ser Corben... Please. Come on man I was just-" K's words were cut short, as a grunt escaped his lips from Ser Corben tightening his grip, almost choking the boy a bit. "Ok...  Point taken..." He mumbled to himself as they finally appeared on the scene. It was humbling to say the least, many men, picking at the walls and carrying buckets.

"Hail..." Ser Corben said aloud, only addressing the knights, hopefully thinking the workers would ignore him. "I have a squire here who needs to learn a few lessons. He thinks he can go around reeking havoc and mayhem, without any consequences. Running around, sleeping with a multitude of young squires, and overall not knowing the way of a knight. He is in serious need of guidance." Ser Corben said loud with his booming voice, his swept hair hanging, pushing the boy as if he was some criminal. "Really?..." K said as he stood up dusting himself off. "That's just taking it a bit to far... Don't you think Ser?" Ser Corben turned and looked at him, giving a look that signaled he was no longer his master. Eeek! So he is serious?!

"I leave this squire in your care fellow knights, I will be back later to retrieve him, do with him what you please." Ser Corben finished as he turned and walked away, K holding on to his lower armor, being dragged on the floor. He let go once he heard Ser Corben grunt, hencing the message. Standing up, he was definitely not dressed for the mines. White cargo shorts, a bright white tee shirt, white shoes, white cloak hanging off of his back. He turned to see the knights that had gain ownership of him talking amongst themselves, snickering and laughing, it was truly vile. Why did it half to be him. Why?!

He didn't deserve this... What were these knights going to do to him?!

"Hail, ser." Ehati was one of the knights present to see Ser Corben bringing in his squire. She eyed the boy disdainfully, seeing in him a failure she, as a Syliran Knight, couldn't allow to flourish. Whatever he did to so greatly desire such a punishment as this, surely the squire was no good and gave no benefit to the Knighthood. She'd make sure he learned something out of this, even if it was just humility.

"Get up, squire. You can get yourself a pickaxe and start chipping away, or you can take the buckets of ore collected by the miners, dump it into the barrows, and wheel it up to the next group of people who will collect it." She took charge of the situation with a hard glare at the boy. The squire couldn't be that young, but evidently he still required teaching or he wouldn't be there. Once he had gotten to his feet, she cast a critical stare up and down his form. He was taller than her, as they usually were, but she was in the position of power and he was not. This was just like home, really. They had their castes and dared not overstep what that entailed.

"Now, get to work, squire." She nodded at the miners. There was no question of his crimes, or when he would be expected to be done, nor was there any pity from the Inarta woman. Children didn't learn from an adult with too much compassion. She remembered that from her teaching days. If anything, the squire would learn what it was like to work under an Inarta that didn't really want to be there.

"Get up, squire. You can get yourself a pickaxe and start chipping away, or you can take the buckets of ore collected by the miners, dump it into the barrows, and wheel it up to the next group of people who will collect it."

K got up and looked around confused, muttering inaudible dialogue, trying to pin point the owner of that voice. "Who does that bitch think she's talking too?" Finding a woman in her knightly attire, staring at him as if literally eyeing off the very being of his essence, sucking away at his Djed and energy with her gaze. He stood up straight, dusting his clothes off fully, before glaring at her back. Red hair... She had red hair. Just like Her. That one girl, that one little inarta that he was able to sleep with... How he worked his way into that travelers bed was another story, but as far as he knew, most of those red head girls were feisty.

And that being said, translated to the bedroom, she could possibly be dominant. Dominant and a fan of... Chains.. Oh gods, please let her be a fan of chains. He began to think about future sexcapades, until her vicious voice snapped him out of thought, telling him get to work. "Work?... I didn't come here to work. I came here to watch people work. I honestly have no time for the insolence of-" He remembered and saw Ser Corben's deadly glare in his head, wondering what would happen if he acted out any further. "Yeah... I'll go work." He said walking over to a tub of pickaxes, then slowly to the wall. It was black, a couple shines here or there but it was black. This wasn't fair... What if he got his clothes dirty?

Stepping about two feet back, he barely tapped the wall, one right hand holding holding the pickaxe. He tapped it dropping off crumbs of dirt and coal? He wasn't to sure of what components went into a mine. All he knew was that this was boring, and he would rather not be here, but he didn't have a choice. Or did he? Jumping a bit, after nearly a bit of dainty wall picking, he spoke out loud. "Sera. I have to pee. Unlike all these big strong men in here, I can't hold my tiny little bladder. Please let me go pee? I'll be right back I promise, but I really gotta go." Hopefully the woman in charge was still a woman, and would let him go. "I love this..." K mumbled, his plan in action. "Just let me go pee..."

All the boy wanted to go do was pee. What could possibly go wrong?

The look she gave the boy was flat, unimpressed, and decidedly annoyed. She didn't want to be here as much as he didn't, but that wouldn't stop her from upholding her duty and making sure the squire knew his place in the scheme of things.

"You want to 'empty your bladder'?" She announced, most crudely, to the amusement of the nearby workers. She snorted and strode forward to find a half empty wheelbarrow that she pushed to be as close to him as was comfortable. She needed help to do so, being that she wasn't really as physically strong as she might like to be. "Fill the rest of this 'barrow with iron, you little whiny child, and then we'll see if I let you to the latrine. Now, get to work or I'll make you work the whole day without a proper break and see if that teaches you how to do things right."

She knew the threat was a mean one, albeit one she would hold up, for without a proper break she was likely to drive the shamed squire to the point of exhaustion, and then past that. It was no better than he deserved, though. She had known yasi in Wind Reach that played better games than this clipped boy. There was interest in the eyes of nearby Knights also on duty, although they didn't offer either Ehati nor her poor prey any assistance. What they thought of her form of control they would probably let her know later rather than risk affecting her credibility in the face of so many civilians.

It was hard to ignore the fake tone in the woman's voice, she looked way too... Nice, to be of such a position. Between such a soft face, and small physique, he actually felt obligated to listen to her. It wasn't pity, no it was far from that actually. It was respect, a bit of pure respect. Because no matter how small this woman really was, she was a knight, and she demanded the respect. That was always good to see, and as always K demanded respect, so it was nice to meet someone else. He accepted her, he respected her, and he would listen for now. Although he wouldn't be to peppy about it. "Yes Sera..." He said bluntly, turning as he yanked up a pickaxe, and trudged to the wall. It was dirt, grime, and a few other shiny things. Holding it like a caveman, he weakly sent it forward, smacking the wall and bouncing back to him.

He looked at it blankly, holding now in his right hand, gripping it weakly. He turned and looked at the knight in charge of him, and back to the wall. "This is actually... Kinda... Fun." He sent forward another swipe, then another, and another. "Heh, heheh, damn... Maybe I should come here more often." He kept swinging, horizontally, side to side. Swiping off dirt as it crumbled and hit the ground, quickly digging in to the wall, as it began to quickly accumulate. After a few moments of hacking, he noticed that the ground was topped with dirt and minerals, all over his shoes. Jumping back as he began huffing and puffing, he was in a small dust cloud, looking down dropping the pickaxe. He walked back coughing, rubbing his eyes, inflicting more pain.

"Dear Sylir, this shit hurts!" He yelled out, vigorously rubbing his eyes. "Hey, knight lady... Give me a moment..." After a few moments, his eyes would be better, he'd be good to go. But for now, pain. Complaining a bit more, he fanned in front of him, until it was safe for sight. Quickly crouching, he scooped up a bit of minerals, quickly tossing them into the wheelbarrow, bouncing up as he completed his mini mission. "Yes!" Stepping back and looking at the two minerals filling the wheelbarrow, he felt accomplished. "Well, that settles that. Guess that was easier than I thought."

Standing proudly was the squire, as he began to walk off, he had did his fair share of work for the year.

Was that what it meant to be a good samaritan?
