He was groaning inside when the woman repeated his words back at him. The only thing he could console himself with was the simple fact that the ale was not going anywhere. It would still be there at his favorite watering hole. All he had to do was get the tour over with and he was on his way.
Perhaps the boat ride wouldn’t be as bad as he thought it would be. The woman took his hand. It was clearly the only friendly gesture up to this point that she had made. She had interrupted his perfect view of the girl he had smiled at. Granted she had walked away, but it hadn’t stopped him from enjoying the view.
He tried not to sigh as she entered the boat. “Yes, it is a beautiful evening.” He said trying to be friendly and why not. She would be in his boat for a while. There was no sense in having a passenger irritated with him. The last time that had happened made for the most unpleasant silence, and no tip! That had to have been the worst working day he had ever had. From that point on he tried to be sensible and polite with his fares.
Tallis untied the boat from the dock and pushed it gently into the canal and jumped on board. He had athletic so when he landed back on the boat it hardly rocked. “So it’s a tour you would like. Well let’s start by going past some of the more famous establishment around the docks… Unless you would rather ride past the temple first?”
As he paddled hard to get the boat moving he finally settle into a more steady easy rhythm. It gave him a chance to get a better look at his passenger. She may have been diminutive in statue but she held herself like a aristocrat.
