Fallon stared at the Kelvic, eyebrow raised before she spoke in a cool tone “What part of ‘not really setting up a camp’ did you miss? I spent plenty of nights sleeping out in the open during the winter on the road here; don’t think I’m going to do it again anytime soon when there is a perfectly good bed waiting for me in the city,” The human shook her head, before turning her attention one more to Orvin, giving him a quick pat on the head “Besides… I know about wolves and their habits enough already. Fire is a good natural deterrent. How else do you think man managed to fight against beast during their more primitive stages? With fire.”
A small wisp of smoke rose, catching the breeze as tinder crackled and burned. Pulling at some twigs, Fallon fed it to the fire before giving a satisfied nod and turning her eyes once more to the Kelvic. She could not tell if she was trying to help or trying to mock her and so deem her ignorant. Fallon cleared her throat “I told you, I’m learning the lay of the land. Going to record things down in my book, vitals… statistics, take samples and then study them in private…” She went over to Javil at that point and went through the bags for her writing book and ink “What? I like researching. I’d be a shyke scholar if I didn’t.”
Turning to a blank page, she scribbled down some details in the front of it, among them being the date and the approximate location. She glanced back at the road behind her, dipping the nib into it and drawing a straight line as if to represent the Kabrin road. A few centimetres to the left of that she drew a circle, with the word ‘camp’ written beneath it, before finally the squire begun to pace.
“Only sometimes handy?” Fallon lined her feet up as she paced the clearing out, counting the steps in between before stopping sharply “Remember these numbers; twenty-six…” she marched past Scarlet, eyes fixed on the floor “eighteen… and…” she turned on the spot, returning once more to the page she was working on her finger raised as she counted at something around her “Gods… that’s a few trees… forty two.”
Nib scratching against the page, the squire proceeded to place out several x marks around the edge of the camp, some more clumped together than others, stepping out into the undergrowth, Fallon quickened her step, head turning sharply back to Scarlet, “You coming? I need you to remember things for me.”
