The Lament
A paradise we once knew
Twas a flower on the sea
White as ivory, sweet with dew
It sang as a lark serenading sky
Then deceit visited, fair as youth
And it plucked us one by one
With cunning tongue and blades
We were stolen from home, why?
Upon us came a black sun
Day was ruined, smoking ash
And tongues once golden bled
Ravaged, helpless, we cried
Pure lilies burned upon the sea
The salt of waves are our tears
And yet no rescue was to come
A kinder fate would be to die
The sun brings no warmth, dead
Dead are Spring's blossoms
Trampled, wilting, they fade
Forever in night's winter to lie
We are forsaken, we are lost
Lost without wisdom of Avalis
Save us, grant us Thy light
Without Thee it is sweeter to die
A paradise we once knew
Twas a flower on the sea
White as ivory, sweet with dew
It sang as a lark serenading sky
Then deceit visited, fair as youth
And it plucked us one by one
With cunning tongue and blades
We were stolen from home, why?
Upon us came a black sun
Day was ruined, smoking ash
And tongues once golden bled
Ravaged, helpless, we cried
Pure lilies burned upon the sea
The salt of waves are our tears
And yet no rescue was to come
A kinder fate would be to die
The sun brings no warmth, dead
Dead are Spring's blossoms
Trampled, wilting, they fade
Forever in night's winter to lie
We are forsaken, we are lost
Lost without wisdom of Avalis
Save us, grant us Thy light
Without Thee it is sweeter to die
