[Global Quest] Rediscovering A Lost Civilization

Postby Gwin on June 3rd, 2013, 9:03 pm

Dear Mister Syka,

I am Gwinquietruos, a musician and composer of the Akvatari race. First of all, I understand your desire to recover the lost city very well for the origin of the Akvatari is also shrouded in secret. I wish to join your expedition to help recover the origin of others and an important part of history.

While I am no fighter or scholar, I do have an interest in regaining, collecting and recording lost knowledge. If you decide to give me a chance, I will be your chronicler, translate our journey and discoveries into song and music. Since early childhood, I have played the violin and composed music, so I believe I can live up to the task. If needed, I will also offer up my lacking skill in drawing for the purpose of recording, act as messenger or scout in sea and sky. My wings are as strong as your legs at least and shall be at your service for the duration of the expedition. Lastly, I require neither food nor accommodation, thus my presence will not cost you a single miza, and I am able to fend for myself in hostile environment, as I have traveled both Eyktol and Cyphrus before.

I would be glad to meet you in person and answer to any questions you may have. Material value, coin or otherwise, means little to me, the opportunity to discover and share with the world is infinitely more intriguing. Knowledge should never be lost.

Sincerely,
Gwin

[Global Quest] Rediscovering A Lost Civilization

Postby Tallis on June 3rd, 2013, 11:01 pm

    Ser Syka,

I have read your summons and would like to answer your call for help by volunteering my skills.

Your quest is a once in a lifetime opportunity and offers the chance to make great discoveries. I have weighed the possible risks and rewards and feel that I would be a great asset to your mission.

I would like to volunteer to be a part of the guard. I am sure that my skills in Reimancy and Flux will come in handy. I expect that a man of your intellect and knowledge can see the possibilities and uses in having a skilled and cool-headed mage on your team. I guarantee that I will not only live up to your expectations, but exceed them.

I hail from the port-town of Zeltiva and have grown up alongside the seas. The God of Storms, Zulrav, has also bestowed upon me the gift to sense the winds. These attributes, combined with the experience I have gained from my own share of adventures upon the sea, should prove to be advantageous should you accept me as a part of your team.

I hope to hear good news from you soon.

    Respectfully yours,

    Tallis

[Global Quest] Rediscovering A Lost Civilization

Postby Dhalvasha on June 3rd, 2013, 11:34 pm

Mathias Syka,

I will make this letter brief as I doubt you have the luxury of time. No doubt at this moment your hands are full of eager recruits ready to hurl their lives into the face of maddening danger. As a medical practitioner, I am sure we both understand the importance in prudent decisions regarding the health of your expedition. I have little working knowledge of Faylndr, perhaps, but I have come to understand it as a place of immense danger and little conventional luxuries.

Due to certain circumstances, I have found myself in need of a worthy purpose...and to step away from the more civilized cities of Mizahar for a time. I will not cut around the truth, I am Symenestra, and if perhaps I write to one of the more traditionally uncomfortable members of the human race, than I shall assume no letter forthcoming will be my answer.

I must, however, caution you against turning away a doctor. If my understanding serves, you will be facing no shortage of dangers between here and your destination...and considering the state of the wilds I'm familiar with, I am sure that you will go for want of competent practitioners should you not seek to fill this gap. As I am sure you are a man of reason, I risk being obvious by speaking frankly, but my intentions are clear and I would rather wish to prove my skills beyond my race, should you consider such...conditions...limiting.

I would be grateful for an opportunity.

-Dhalvasha

[Global Quest] Rediscovering A Lost Civilization

Postby Jared Costavos on June 4th, 2013, 1:38 am

Dear Mister Syka,

I am writing on behalf of my son, Jared Costavos. Jared is an able young man with a hunger for knowledge. He is a tad clumsy and has an issue with his writing but other than that he is a very intelligent young man. He has studied extensively at the University of Zeltiva and has read a multitude of books on many different subjects.

I am sure that under your esteemed tutelage he shall rise to great heights if only you give him the chance. He is eager to learn and he learns quickly. By the time you have received this letter my son shall no doubt be less than a week or two from Riverfall. Please do not shatter a young man's dream.

[Global Quest] Rediscovering A Lost Civilization

Postby Sirroco on June 4th, 2013, 1:21 pm

Sir-

It is with great excitement that I submit this humble letter to you. Your venture is one of epic proportion, and certainly will be recounted for generations from the Holds of Avanthal to the sun-scorched tents of the nomads of Eyktol and to the far flung peaks of Kalea's Eagle Riders. To accompany such a monumental expedition would be an honor this mere fisherman could only dare to envision. But dare dream I do. I am no mere net-fisher, but one who selects only the best prey for his fishing spear, to provide the finest and fittest fare for you and your party. Great and small, I can fish from my own humble vessel, so as not to burden your own ship. I honor the The Sea King and he smiles on me as well, and I have been blessed to know the sea and its kinds as others cannot. Certainly a boon for traversing the Suvan and dwelling on its shore.

Once the settlement is established and succeeds, as it most certainly will, I can continue to provide the finest sea fare for our citizens, at fair market price.

Please consider this simple seaman's application, I can set sail for Riverfall at a moment's notice.

Postby Gossamer on June 4th, 2013, 3:16 pm

Promptly, as if the letters were foreseen and responded too before they were posted, answers were received. Sometimes they arrived by messenger just bells after the originals were sent.

Mongoose-

It is my great pleasure to accept you into the expedition. Indeed I have many uses for a Pycon and find them invaluable as well as very well adjusted to the jungle having no need to worry about the various fevers and predators that lurk there. Come to Riverfall. Find a room at Atri's Place and say you are with the expedition. Room and board will be then covered. We will muster a day or two before the 50th to talk and plan.

Sincerely,

Mathias Syka

Miss Eleret-

I find that Konti bring incredibly good luck. Thank you for your interest and it is a huge bonus that you are a University Student. Woodcarving will be greatly needed in Syka as the settlement gets off the ground, so please bring any tools you might need or have a list for me to acquire in Riverfall when you get here. I can set you up with your own business once we have firmly explored the site and being to build. Once you are in Riverfall, find a room at Atri's Place and say you are with the expedition. Room and board will be then covered. We will muster a day or two before the 50th to talk and plan.

Always a pleasure,

Mathias Syka

Greetings Calen-

First and foremost, never assume someone shares your views. Odds are they do not, because Lex is a fickle soul I’ve found, and he tends to twist the world to his pleasure often linking those who are not like minded together just to stir the world pot. I can tell you are young, for your letter reads as if it is important for you to travel, not necessarily to have a goal in doing so. Goals are important in life, and I assure you our goals here are rock solid. But a book smart mage that is not worldly wise can be a dangerous inclusion into such an expedition. Thank you for your interest, but I feel I need to pass you over for other mages who wrote and had more of an interest in joining. I would suggest since you know best the attitudes and prejudices of others, perhaps even better than themselves, that you refrain and stay home.

Sincerely,

Mathias Syka

Lady Gwin,

While it is lovely to think an Akvatari would love to be included into the group, I have found in the past their chronic melancholy is often detrimental to expeditions of this nature. And while it is charming and a delight that you are a musician, the music of the Akvatari is often not the light hearted spirit lifting sort an expedition needs. I feel, unfortunately at this time, that you are not suited for our trip. Perhaps in the future we can cross paths and I will get to hear your songs and experience your writings.

Sincerely,

Mathias Syka

Greetings Tallis-

I am neither knight nor ranked in Syliras so using the term Ser is not appropriate. Thank you for the flattery though. I am simply a man who has the coin and will to see this grand expedition through to the end. I am familiar with your kind, you Stormwardens, and think you will be an asset to this group if you could do perhaps a bit more than talk to breezes. It is a double delight that you have knowledge of magic as well. There have been other mages answer my correspondences, but a few have approached with a bit of doubt or preconceived notions of my beliefs. You have not. Still, there is something about you that makes me feel that you are perhaps not ready for this trip. I have mages a plenty, so your inclusion would have to be something special and at this point I feel perhaps there is not enough there to merit you an invitation.

Regards,

Mathias Syka

Dhalvasha-

As much as I would love a medical doctor on the expedition, we are indeed leaving out of Riverfall. Symenestra, such as yourself, are killed on sight at the gates. I would be stretching my welcome thin inviting one on this expedition which Riverfall is hosting for several days before its departure. Your caution and advice is noted, but I can assure you that I am capable of making decisions for myself and hiring a doctor from Riverfall if no other steps forward. I also feel I know the dangers between Riverfall and our destination perhaps better than you yourself can foresee. But in truth, the tone of your letter is a red flag for me beyond even your race’s standard underhanded ways. Few responders to my request have been so pushy and assuming in their letters back. For the safety of yourself and indeed any females in the group as you very well may be on Harvest, I feel I have to reject your inclusion.

Good luck in your future endeavors.

Mathias Syka

Dear Johnathan Costavos-

We require that the applicant apply themselves. It is unprecedented that you would write for your son. Please have him send a correspondence to me so that I can be the judge of his suitability for myself.

Regards,

Mathias Syka

Greetings Sirroco-

I’m relieved a svefra has applied to join the expedition. You will do well to help see us across the Suvan and down to Falyndar’s shores. For that alone you would be welcome. Any further service inland you’d like to show would indeed be a bonus. Come to Riverfall. Find a room at Atri's Place and say you are with the expedition. Room and board will be then covered. We will muster a day or two before the 50th to talk and plan.

Regards,

Mathias Syka

OOC Note. I have to be more picky to keep the total numbers down. On this round, I made sure I took only those that had an updated CS namely a current ledger to make sure you didn't just dust off an alt to play. The only exception to this (well his CS wasn't up to date) was the Symenestra who would have gotten killed even attempting to come into RF. While there's nothing wrong with dusting off an alt to play, you still have to take the time to have things like current ledgers, avatars, etc. It shows you care about your PC and that you want to actually write with them. Any future applicants need to be current on their CS's. It's what I expect in my cities when you come to them, and it should be no different in quests.

Any currently accepted members should make sure their CS's are currently up to date for this season as well. If you aren't, I'll ask you to update immediately. And say if you are living in a city that has an upper income, I don't want to see things like 'squalor' conditions on your CS because you are saving coin. You need to update accurately and if you don't have enough coin, get a job to pay your expenses.

Thanks!

[Global Quest] Rediscovering A Lost Civilization

Postby Lucas Arias on June 4th, 2013, 7:48 pm

Mister Syka,

Your last name reminds me of my old home of Nyka, and thus I cannot help but wonder: Is there a connection between the lost city of Syka and that certain city in Sylira that I still remember fondly?

Either way, I would like to join you on your expedition. At barely nineteen, I might seem quite young, but I assure you that I can handle myself. I’ve trained with the knights of Syliras from an early age on. I survived the Aperture in Nyka and fought the unnatural creatures that had overrun the city during the djed storm of 512. I was also quite successful in the tournament that was held that year.

Furthermore I have worked for one Professor Hadrian Aelius of Zeltiva, as a bodyguard as well as an assistant, and later on as a teaching assistant at the University, and thus I have some academic background in addition to my skill with the sword. I can draw as well, should you have need of somebody that documents your expedition in such a way.

You may also find it interesting that Kelwyn have granted me their mark. While it is slightly unpredictable in comparison to other gods‘ marks, it might come in useful at one point.

If you take me with you, I assure you that you won’t regret it.

Signed,
Lucas Arias

P.S.: If you think no teenager could possibly already have done so many things, feel free to prove the truth of my claims by contacting the University of Zeltiva or Mister Alex Eolla in Nyka. I’m not a liar! Honestly!

[Global Quest] Rediscovering A Lost Civilization

Postby Jared Costavos on June 4th, 2013, 8:44 pm

To the esteemed Mister Syka,

I was surprised to see receive correspondence from my father at one of the ship's stops. I do not think would not suppose he told you why it was that I did not write you. As you I am sure you can now see my writing is terrible leaves something to be desired. Many of those who have taken the time to learn how to read do not have the patience to decipher my illegable illegible handwriting. Due to this handicap I have not been able to participate at an academic level with my peers. I just think that if they gave me a chance I could be a valuable asset to Academia. I am a seeker of knowledge just like them just like you. Knowledge, TRUTH is in the mind. My mind is fine, it's my hands that fail me and they have even gotten better. I am an apt slingshotsmen competent with a slingshot and it's use has actually helped. I really think I'm getting better and I think coming on this trip will finally get allow me to be accepted. I am so sure that the successes of this expedition will show that I am not what people think I am and if you allow me to come on this journey with you I will prove it to you. I swear by my life.

In earnest,

Postby Kinneas on June 4th, 2013, 9:26 pm

To Mister Syka,

I am Kinneas Avain, and if you are looking for a skilled guard to keep the expedition safe I would be honored to have the opportunity to accompany everyone on this historic event. I am skilled in unarmed combat, but I do not only settle things with my fists. I like to think that I have a good sense of justice, of right and wrong.

If you are also looking for not only a guard, but someone to be dedicated to the causes you set I am your man. As a marked of Wysar I take pride in my god and mark and further aim to uphold everything he stands for. If accepted I will do my upmost best to see this expedition is a success.

If there is space in your expedition, and you find me adequate, I would like to take along my servant. However, it is not a requirement, and I will go regardless if chosen.

Sincerely,

Kinneas Avain

OOCThe servant mentioned in the letter is actually Bloodfight, who expressed interest in going along if Kinneas can convince him.

[Global Quest] Rediscovering A Lost Civilization

Postby Kench on June 5th, 2013, 3:02 am

To the Mathias Syka,

I like to be called Kench, and I am a very excellent Navigator.

In fact, after leaving my Pyre in Syliras, I myself managed to cross the famous Cyphrus' Sea of Grass. I only imagine that I would be nothing but a benefit to your cause, for a number of reasons.

One, being a pycon, I am incredibly small. I would take little to no space on any vessel, and I often find that my size comes in handy in most exploration cases -- more often than not, I'm sure I'll be useful in that regard. Two, I am brave. I would willingly head first as a scout, knowing most of you 'biggies' look for other 'biggies'. My size again will only be of use -- I could sneak right on by without an issue.

Besides being a pycon, require nothing the taller beings know as sustenance. I only need clay, and I find that much cheaper than most normal food. And clay never spoils. Third, I am an excellent navigator. Give me a map, give me the stars, and I'll find wherever you want us to go. Fourth, I am competent in the ancient tongue -- as we are looking for an ancient city, I think this would be useful.

On top of everything above, I consider myself quite skilled with the Py-pole. I would be able to protect myself and others, so you wouldn't have to worry about me!

I hope this letter gets to you fast, and finds you well.
Whatever your decision, I wish you all the best on you expedition.

- Kench, the pycon.
