22nd Day of Summer
Twelfth Bell

The emptiness of the great Rearing Stallion was striking in contrast to the evening theatrics, the quietude of folk passing through for a bite to eat, minding their business as well as their manners a reprieve. The chimes slunk by languorously, waxing hesitantly in the heat. A comfortable silence pervaded the tavern as the few patrons milled around at their tables. Occasional glances and polite nods were given but those present seemed perfectly content to enjoy their meal and keep to themselves, Hadyn Skellig among them.

It was already half past the twelfth bell and she still hadn't ordered. Instead she sat at the bar, eyes trained on a lengthy letter held between soot stained fingers. She'd arrived quietly, slipping through the doors and finding herself a place at the bar. There was no fear of being rudely interrupted or otherwise accosted for the folk of the afternoon were a complacent type. Barely a glance her way thus far. An untouched mug of ale sat bristling in the heat but her attention was clearly engaged by the scribbling on the page.

Looking up to crack the bones in her neck the weaponsmith took this pause to observe her surroundings. Although the ale had been dealt promptly no one had yet come back to inquire if she wanted more. In fact, Hadyn was surprised to see neither Shiress nor Aidan present, though the latter could easily be in the back cooking. Putting the letter down, the brunette scanned the bar hoping to catch sight of an employee. She could do with a bite to eat.

Even though he arrived here bells ago Artur wouldn't be able to tell now, he had been asleep with head nested in his arms as they rested on the table. Still garbed in his usual worn linen outfit and sandals, the bear went about with his pack until he discovered the red sign in the city. When he came in to order food it had been far too early as the kitchens weren't open just yet, so he decided at the time he would wait until they were. This resulted in him falling into a light sleep where one could be aware of their surroundings, but the peace and quiet of the room happen to prove too relaxed of a place. Thus the result ended quite well with him sleeping on the table... hard.

He has found a spot in the furthest corner well away from the majority of all the tables when he waited, thus he was hardly noticeable to any who really paid attention. Nobody even really thought to bother the bear as he slept away, or maybe they did but he just couldn't be awakened with their gentle prods. Now of course he still slept heavily with his head nested in his arms, a shift in their position finally revealed the face of the bear as his snoring began to fill the room. It was obnoxiously loud for the entire room to hear thank Oriana, but the bear did snore loud enough for anybody who paid minor attention to it. He was in a blissful nap unaware of the public that resided in it during the day, though it be few it was still a place people would stop by no less. Maybe someone would attempt to wake the sleeping bear, or maybe he would be left alone until he woke up. That really depended on whoever took interest in him though, did it not?

[The Rearing Stallion] Copper Linings (Artur)

Postby Anders on June 13th, 2013, 12:28 am

Anders peacefully sipped his cocktail as he peered around the bar. He took special note of the various patrons in the Stallion, tonight. He came, not for the alcohol but to watch the comings and the goings of the various people of Syliras. It was his travel. Anders was not a stranger to the fact that it was odd for an Ethaefal to stay in the same place. Most of his fellow ethaefal chose to wander the world yet Anders was drawn to the crowded city because of his work.

In Syliras, this was the change in scenery. It was the interesting lives of the various inhabitants of this great fortified castle. Sure, observing the living was not nearly as fun as observing the dead but there was value in the practice. After all, he had noted the common observation that ghosts seemed to mimic their desires and dreams in the afterlife even if those lofty goals were meaningless in death. It was after hours and Anders was here for leisure, not study but this was all part of the research. Part of the ongoing quest to identify why one has difficulty in the transition while another passes smoothly into the afterlife.

And so here was his distraction, sitting alone at a bar. Watching the comings and the goings of the bar. One sight was particularly able to gain his attention. It was a large, bulky man in the corner. Already, this had struck Anders as odd. This seemed a place where humans gathered to be social. They came to meet with their friends and make new ones. And yet here was a man almost hiding in the back corner. Furthermore, this particular human was asleep! Why here?

The question was enough to pique Anders' interest. He focused on the stranger and read what he might be able to read from his aura. There was something wild about this man. Not savage. Quite reserved and pleasant, actually. But his aura was different from any Anders had ever seen and Anders could not figure out why. His aura was indicative of something more peaceful and natural than a man. Anders likened his aura to that of the quiet power hiding in the forest or of the single minded focus of a waterfall.

Anders decided that he had to test whether or not he would be able to wake this individual. Even if only for the sake of his auristic curiosity. Knowing it was rude to wake someone from an otherwise perfect nap, Anders approached, ready to buy the man a round of drinks as a show of good favor and somewhat of an impromptu apology.

When Solin made it to the door of the Rearing Stallion, the kelvic picked a bur out of his hair and flicked it away from him. However, Sulrav must have had it in for him today because the bur flew right back into his shirt. Solin stared at the prickly seed with contempt, and he threw his arms into the air in frustration. Giving up completely on the burs, Solin decided to let the prickly hitch hiker stay on his shirt for another bell. The kelvic knew it was only twelfth bell, but after the last two days, he needed drown himself in alcohol to forget the last hunting trip ever happened. Solin had to admit he wasn't looking his best today in his dull blue pants and tan shirt. However, he did make the extra effort to weave a brown and red feather in his hair with a few of his polished bones. He knew most city dwellers thought him as odd with the unorthodox adornments in his hair, but in the end he didn't care what they thought of him. On the other hand, the burs scattered throughout his hair wasn't place there by design, even though, he took a bath before coming to the tavern. Nothing went right for the hunter these last few days, so he decided to come to the tavern to nurse his wounds on a gallon of beer with his prickly hitchers along for the ride.

Solin opened the door, and he saw the place was basically dead except for a few people. As the kelvic walked towards the bar, he couldn't help himself and smile at the large man catching a nap on one of the tables. As he passed the table, he nodded to the tall dark haired man walking the sleeping man's table. The kelvic walked up the bar next to a pretty woman with long brown hair. He glanced over for a moment, and she was staring at a letter with a untouched mug of ale in front of her. Solin figured the letter meant something personal to the woman. The bartender came over to him and said softly, “What can I get yo...?” Solin watch with quiet amusement as the man trailed off at the end of the sentence. The man looked at his hair, shook his head, and waited for the kelvic to respond. Solin looked around at the four bar patron already in the bar, and he said with smile, “Why don't you bring me a gallon of beer and four empty mugs.” The bartender nodded to him and went off to fill his order. Solin looked at the woman and asked with a friendly smile, “Would you like to help me conquer this gallon of beer? I figure it could be fun to see if the other two would like to help in the battle also.” Solin motioned with his head to the table with the dark haired man and the sleeping man. He figured it could be fun to fill his afternoon with pleasant conversation with complete strangers.

The blacksmith took a steady pull from the ale, eyes dancing leisurely from patron to patron as she paused in her reading. The fellow slumped over his table, however, caught her attention, if only for the oddity of his demeanor. It was far too early for him to be a drunk passed out from over consumption. And it was somewhat late in the day to be hungover in a tavern. Hadyn could only conclude the man was actually, genuinely asleep. In the Stallion. In the middle of the day. Perhaps he was afflicted.

The slumbering beast caught not only her gaze but that of another who departed his seat at the bar to approach the snoozing man. What he planned to do the woman couldn't tell but she wasn't entirely convinced it was a wise move. Most napping folk prefer to remain thus, especially if they're tired enough to drop on a table. But Hadyn turned to her drink and the approach of her own guest. An eyebrow rose ever so slightly over one eye as she set the letter down and assessed the fellow. He was an odd sort, but nothing overly concerning. He smelled of the wild and the burs in his hair suggested he hadn't been in the city long. When he addressed her she smiled politely, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear before responding.

"A kind offer to make a stranger," she replied with a cant of her head, pausing to consider his words before answering. "T'would be my pleasre."

She cast a glance over her shoulder at the sleeping man and he who wished to disturb him. Turning back to her new friend the woman shrugged one shoulder as she collected the papers. Folding them several times, she stowed them in the satchel on the seat beside her. Returning her gaze to the chap, the blacksmith wrapped a hand around the arm of her mug.

"Our friend may need a drink after he wakes that bloke,"
she tossed her head in the direction of the two he'd indicated. Drawing the mug to her, the brunette finished off the last of her ale in anticipation of the beer her companion so generously shared.

<Snoooore. Sigh. Snoooore. Sigh.> Artur had fallen into a deep sleep apparently, one that a bear never really enjoyed being awoke from. For Anders to take the chance to wake the bear he might have to use a more creative idea that simply shaking Artur. Not even a continuous amount of nudges would seem to awaken him from his slumber, but by the look on the bears face he was definitely in a blissful place compared to the tavern. <Snoore. Sigh. Snoooore. Sigh.> Artur smacked his lips a couple of times as if he ate something, his expression changed to a less gleeful one as he shifted his arms a little. "Mm... the monkey's got my money..." He mumbled with ease as he felt back into the same snore pattern, now a little more obnoxiously compared to earlier.

oocSorry not really much for him to do. But I hope you find fun in waking up this sleepy bear. :)

[The Rearing Stallion] Copper Linings (Artur)

Postby Anders on June 14th, 2013, 11:56 pm

Anders could, at times, be oddly social. Not because of any innate charisma or need for attention but because he saw interaction as being just as much an academic activity as it was a social one. He enjoyed interacting with people, enjoyed learning about them and almost studying them. It was a quirk strange enough to wake a sleeping stranger but not enough to harass one. After realizing that his attempts to rouse the sleeping patron would be ultimately futile, she shrugged his shoulders and turned back toward his seat. There was no need to pursue with any further physicality.

When he spun around, he noticed the eyes upon him. The sun still in the air, Anders was currently in his earthbound form. Lacking horns or the silvery glint to his skin, Anders would resemble a pale, black haired human with an expression revealing both his confidence and his slight embarrassment. He turned a little red as he pictured how he must have looked in the moment. Perhaps it was a bit of a silly thing to try and disrupt someone's sound sleep. But as much as Anders was outgoing and socially resillient in a strange, aloof, academic way, he was never one for understanding social intricacies.

The ethaefal then noticed four mugs. Two of them, of course, belonged to the people in front of them but two were unclaimed. The two sitting at the bar certainly semed friendly enough. It wasn't Anders' nature to slink away, awkwardly after one of his social faux pas. As was the case tonight, it was more characteristic for him to adeptly turn on his heel and move on to a new attempt. One developed a thick skin for rejection and social tension when dealing with ghosts on such a regular basis.

"Might I join your company tonight? As you can see, my previous venture didn't end so successfully." He questioned them, still squeezing his half empty, watered down cocktail. Anders acutely sensed that he was a bit depleted after focusing on the sleeping man's aura. He took a quick moment to get a glimpse of the woman's aura. He was able to feel an impression of willpower and self reliance but not much else as he focused more on interacting with the two people before him.

Solin eyes flickered to the dark haired man approaching them, and he his bright blue eyes turn back to the woman and said with a pleasant smile,
“My name is Solin Valhir, and I am glad you want to join me, but I don't drink with strangers, so may I ask you your name?” Solin was leaning on the bar waiting for the bar tender to fill his order. When she said told the subtle joke about the dark haired man needing a drink of drink of his own when he tried to wake the slumbering man. Solin nodded in agreement with a smirk on his face. Solin gave a welcoming smile to the dark haired man and said to the woman, “Well, maybe a pitcher of beer will temper his mood when we wake him.” He meant the last phrase for both of them, and still leaning on the bar, he turned to the dark haired man, “As I just asked the lady here, I don't drink with strangers, so may I ask you your name, so we can all enjoy each other company?” Solin knew drinking alone wasn't the funniest experience, and most of the time, it led to saddness or depression in him because he will start to over think everything in his life. It wasn't something, he choose to do today.

The bartender set down the frothy pitcher of brown liquid and four clay mugs on the counter. The bartender looked at Hadyn and her own mug, decided to put one back, and said to the brown haired woman, “For the sake of my dishwasher sanity tonight, I will just let you keep your own glass my lady.” The human behind the counter looked at Solin said softly, "The pitcher of beer will be four silver mizas, Sir.” The kelvic fished out six silver mizas and set them down on the counter. The bartender took them with smile and tossed them into the till. He looked the darked haired man and the brown haired and asked with smile, “Can I get you anything else?”Solin picked up a empty mug of ale with one hand, and he picked up the pitcher with his other hand and poured it along the side of the glass, so the beer doesn't froth up in his glass. He handed it to the dark haired stranger, smiled at the woman, and glanced at her glass, “Well, I see you are running low. Would you like me to top you off before we wake the slumbering bear.” The last part was joke, so he finished his sentence with a wink. He knew it was bad, but by the time they finished the pitcher or two. It wouldn't matter how bad the jokes being told were. If she said yes, he would fill her mug.

Solin looked at his two companions, picked up the other two empty mugs, and he walked to the table with the large man. When he made it to the table, he set down the mugs and sat down one of the empty chairs. He smirked at the man, picked up a mug, and started pouring him a glass. As he filled the mugs, Solin set the full mug loudly on the table and said loudly to the slumbering man, “Do you know you are disrupting the universe at the moment?” He peeked over the mug at the man to see if he was awake and continued, “Because in every city, I ventured too in my short life. I noticed there was tradition between most mortals who drink in tavern. Their drinking process had a procedure to their inebriation.” Solin took a deep breath and continued his rant, “First, a man or a woman must order a drink. Second, they start drinking till the inebriation is too much for them than lastly, they fall asleep.” He finished pouring his glass, and he set it down next to him. The kelvic said with a smile to the large man, “You my friend our disrupting the tradition with the lack of concern for the whole important process, so I have a proposal to put our whole crazy world back into order once again before the universe explodes.” He reached over, set the mug in front of large man, and said with a smile, “Why don't you share this pitcher of beer with these fine people and me, and maybe we could put everything right again.” He waved a hand to the brown haired woman and dark haired man, and he said to the large man a with a smile, “My name is Solin Valhir, and it is nice to meet you.”

Hadyn canted her head with a slight smile as their duo increased by one. The fellow appeared almost bashful at his failed attempt to awaken the snoring chap. With a disarming smile, the woman nodded to the empty chair beside her before her other companion issued introductions.

"You're welcome to join us," she replied politely to the dark haired guest before turning her attention to Solin. "I'm Hadyn." She spoke loud enough for both men to hear, casting a smile at the stranger on her other side. "And I would be most appreciative."

She pushed her mug closer to Solin so he might refill it, this time with beer. A chatty one, wasn't he? With that Solin departed to try to wake the sleeping man. Why these two felt it necessary to rouse the fellow Hadyn couldn't tell. Just for sport? perhaps they knew him? But it would most likely be an amusing lark, as far as the blacksmith was concerned. Glancing at her new companion with a grin, the woman pulled a quick sip of beer before speaking.

"It's our lucky day... A drink and a show,"
she stated with a nod to Solin's approach to the snoozing one. Hopefully the slumbering man wouldn't be too put out at being awakened.

"<snooore> yes I'm a natural brown... <snooore>" He mumbled just before a loud "donk" rattled his ear drums, his expression showed disturbance in his nap as he sighed with another shift. Then something, or rather someone, decided to speak to him even though he was sleeping. The bear could hear a continuous voice that prattled on, his conciousness became subdued from sleep as he cracked his eyes open. He had forgotten where he was and proceeded to look around the room with a bit of a lost expression. "Wha?" He looked to Solin rather drowsy, a stretch came from Artur as he went into a loud yawn for the nearby tables to hear. The sleeping bear had awoken.

"Fancy to meet you too." He responded as he looked to Solin, the flagon of beer now caught his eye. Come to think of it Artur was not only hungry, but parched now after that nap he had. "Say you're fine with sharing this right?" He checked even though he was sure he heard something about sharing a drink earlier when he started coming too. That was when he noticed the mug before him, the beverage that rested within aroused his senses. He wasn't aware that this beverage was beer, and knew nothing of alcohol and its taste. So he assumed that it was just a drink that would sate his thirst. Artur reached for the mug and allowed some of the beer to enter, eyes popped wide with shock as his reaction was to spew what went in his mouth onto the table in disgust.

"Mother of pearl!" He proclaimed as he sat the mug back down, a disdainful look directed to Solin afterwards. "Why does this taste like piss?" He interrogated in puzzlement, curious as to how and why people can just drink this stuff like its nothing. "I've never tasted anything like this before!" If he looked sleepy before there was no trace of it to show now, the bear had been aroused with bewildered curiosity at this mysteriously nasty drink.
