Race: Human/Drykas Birthday & Age: 22nd day of Spring; 24 years old Gender: Male Tiren is a young warrior of the Diamond clan of Drykas, a member of the Stormrunner Pavilion and the younger son of its old Ankal. At 24 years old, he still has much to learn, though he is developing as quite a talented archer; his mother had high hopes that he might become a stormwarden some day. Unfortunately, his mother is now dead and Tiren's priorities have changed drastically in the past year or so, following his older brother Hieral's betrayal of their father. Personality Like many Drykas, Tiren is naturally outspoken and largely uninhibited. He is passionate: quick to make friends, but sometimes a little too quick to anger, too. Though he has a tendency towards pride, he isn't generally arrogant, and enjoys listening to and learning from those with more experience than himself. Equally comfortable in groups and alone, Tiren does occasionally enjoy solitude -- or the sole company of his beloved Strider, Azurai -- and can, depending on his mood at the time, sometimes appear to be quiet and thoughtful at first. However, it doesn't take much persuasion to bring him out of his shell, and he's always happy to lead a discussion -- or stand up to an argument, if the subject is one about which he feels strongly. He has a tendency to be curious, and will ask question after question until he finds out what he wants to know. This isn't due to a particularly offensive or interrogative nature, but more thanks to his unending curiosity about the world around him. He can be quite surprisingly vain for one who lives and dies by the grass and the horses, and maybe a little too free with casual affection (often the sort which could be described as flowing with his uninhibited nature), but should a friendship develop -- or once his trust or respect is earned -- Tiren is fiercely loyal, and will defend those he cares about to the death. Thanks to his older brother's actions against their father, he has recently discovered a heartfelt loathing for betrayal: it's a burning hatred with more depth than he thought he was capable of, and that scares him slightly. Nevertheless, he is generally quite easy-going and approachable, and quite happy to start a conversation (or leap into the midst of one) if nobody approaches him first. Morals and Ethics Until recently, Tiren has never had much cause to think about his morals in any great detail. He abided strictly by the Seven Laws of the Drykas, always sure that he would work and train hard, honour the sacred Striders and the Clan, maintain his own dignity and, if the need ever arose, assist others with keeping their own... Beyond the Laws, he had never really sat down to consider what particular personal morals or ethics he might have. A year ago, his older brother Hieral betrayed and usurped their father as Ankal of the Stormrunner Pavilion, without any warning but with considerable malice aforethought. Such a blatant disregard of the Laws, not to mention the lore, has made Tiren reconsider his own moral standing in some detail, up to and including how far he would go to get revenge on his murderous brother and avenge his beloved father. He isn't quite sure, yet. And he doesn't particularly like being so confused. He has no great problem with casual affections, but he would never deliberately hurt or ever betray a friend or lover. He is still law-abiding and automatically respects older Diamond Clan hunters and warriors and all Ankal, but since Hieral's betrayal, he isn't sure quite where his moral boundaries lie any more. Likes and Dislikes Unsurprisingly, the first great love in Tiren's life is horses: riding them, being with them, training them -- though he's far from expert at training. He also loves to listen to music, and would like to learn an instrument some day, should the opportunity present itself. If he has time spare, he's often found studying the decorative objects around the Pavilion, trying to work out how they were so exquisitely decorated -- not to mention how they were made, and how they work. Always a curious individual, he would also like to learn crafting, both of functional objects and the finer detail arts of the artisans who made them beautiful. He also loves storms, and they hold no fear for him, although he does recognise their potentially destructive nature. His current greatest dislike, needless to say, is his older brother Hieral. Languages Pavi (fluent) Common (passable) Grassland Sign (poor, at least compared to older members of the Clan and other Drykas) A casual observer would probably put Tiren down as 'strong, dark and striking'. He is fairly tall, fairly broad... fairly stunning, some women (and men of a certain persuasion) might say, and he would probably agree, with a charmingly infectious grin and, most likely, a flirtatious word or two. There are undoubtedly more beautiful people in the world -- and his somewhat rugged, obviously hard-working look isn't to everyone's tastes -- but he's definitely not a bad thing to have to look at. Height: 6'0" Build: Broad-shouldered, lean, muscular. Colouring: Tiren has a permenent tan, thanks to spending most of his time outdoors in the sun and the wind. His hair is dark, somewhat wavy, and falls to his waist when left loose. His eyes are green. Tattoos & markings: Tiren's windmarks are intricate, stretching across most of his back and down his right arm. They flow with lines and curves reminiscent of the wind itself, and he's quietly rather proud of them. He has no particularly notable scars, piercings or other markings. Style: Though he's most often found in practical leather breeches and a shirt, or occasionally light leather armour, Tiren has a fondness for the drama of a sweeping full-length cape and will quite happily sling one on and gallop off across the Grasslands purely for the dramatic effect, or to impress (or sometimes just amuse) a friend. He tends to wear browns and greens as well as the traditional whites and silvers of the Diamond clan, though given half a chance he would be entirely happy in rich jewel shades -- purple, blue, deep green, burgundy... He keeps his hair long and mostly loose, with just a few wraps to show his age and level of warrior training (though he no longer displays any status wraps, as he has a deep distaste for his brother's stolen Ankal-ship), and sports a short trimmed goatee. Tiren's life was relatively unremarkable until the last year, when everything changed forever. The sudden change in Ankal has thrown the Pavilion into chaos, but Tiren more than most. Childhood and Adolescence Tiren's mother was convinced that her son was destined to be a stormwarden. The fact that he was born on the eve of a monstrous thunderstorm, and into a clan which had produced several renowned stormwardens in the past, only gave her ammunition for her theory. As the young Tiren grew up, though, he became ever less convinced: weren't stormwardens usually born in a storm, not on the eve of one? Besides, they already had his brother, Hieral. Five years older, Hieral was stronger, quicker and louder than Tiren from the very beginning. Tiren positively idolised him. Although being the younger son of the Ankal afforded Tiren some status and some minor luxuries as a child, he was in many ways just another Drykas boy growing up with the rest of the Pavilion. He trained and played with others of his own age, learning from the elders of the Pavilion and from his own peers. Ever curious, he occasionally annoyed the elders with his constant questions, but he quickly proved himself to be intelligent and a fast learner with a particular affinity for shortbow archery. As Tiren and Hieral grew older, they began to drift apart; neither had yet been chosen by a Strider, and Tiren sometimes suspected that Hieral was twitchy at best -- if not outright worried -- about the possibility that Tiren might be chosen first. When Tiren's Strider chose him at the age of fourteen, any brotherly closeness was lost forever. Even Hieral's own bonding just six months later wasn't enough to repair the rift between them. Nevertheless, despite the brothers' ever-growing distance, the family remained close-knit. Tiren was always close to his parents, respecting and honouring them not only for their high status in the Pavilion, but also as much-loved mother and father. Tiren's mother was his father's only wife, and it was never a secret that they still adored one another after nearly thirty years of marriage. Hieral, however, became ever more distant. Although their father did his best to mediate, seeing it as his duty both as Ankal and as father, it was ever more obvious that Hieral wasn't inclined to listen. Hieral's Betrayal For years, Tiren's life continued in a fairly unremarkable vein. His skill in archery increased; he became ever closer to his horse, Azurai; friendships grew and blossomed and, as he passed his majority, he took lovers, had his heart broken and broke others' hearts in equal measure, never one to be beaten down by a failed relationship, and never tied to any one person for too long. His philosophy, being so young, was that he had plenty of time to settle down. His brother's final stand came completely out of the blue when Tiren was 23. The argument was heated, the fight over too quickly for Tiren to intervene -- and then both of his beloved parents were dead, and Hieral had announced himself the new Ankal. The rest of the Pavilion was shocked; it had long been known that Hieral wasn't entirely happy with his father's rule, and his ruthlessness was near-legendary, but none of them had any idea that he had the bitterness, or the twisted courage, to murder his own father. Resentment, though it was rife, was kept quiet for fear of the new Ankal. Suddenly, no-one had any idea of just what Tiren's older brother was capable of. Tiren himself kept as quiet as he could, not wishing to give his brother any reason to see him as a threat. He had no real idea of what to do, only an ever-strengthening resolve to see his father avenged and properly honoured, and to restore his Pavilion in the eyes of the others somehow. He survived the year that followed largely by staying out of Hieral's way, spending time away from the Pavilion working on his hunting and archery skills. Knowing that his life was changed forever, he tried desperately to think of something positive to do with the chaos that had been presented to him, but no brilliant sparks of inspiration appeared. When Hieral announced that they were travelling to Endrykas, however, Tiren saw a way out -- at least for now -- and perhaps an opportunity to put some distance between himself and his brother. Presently Following Hieral's usurping of the previous Ankal, the Stormrunner Pavilion has been in disarray. They travelled to Endrykas for the first time since the change, though Tiren had no doubt that news will have passed to the other Pavilions and clans already, and did not expect a warm welcome. He intended to take this opportunity to set himself apart from his brother, making it clear to those who matter -- or those who might care to listen -- that he had no part whatsoever in his brother's betrayal, and that he would love to see his father avenged someday. This section is ongoing and will be added to as Tiren's adventures continue. |
