A city floating in the center of a lake, Ravok is a place of dark beauty, romance and culture. Behind it all though is the presence of Rhysol, God of Evil and Betrayal. The city is controlled by The Black Sun, a religious organization devoted to Rhysol. [Lore]

Melodies in Ravok

Ireth's eyes widened in fright. "My flute?"

She very nearly tore the flap of her pack open in her frenzy to find her beloved instrument. But there it lay, amid the other small belongings she didn't keep in her room. She pulled it out and laid it on the table. Its worn and polished gray driftwood body shone slightly in the sun that glistened through the shop window. The flute was about a foot long, and its pigeon totem stood poised for flight, it's green eyes standing out against it's silver wood.

Ireth took it in her hands, examining it and smiling. "It looks none the worse, the old thing. My mother gave this to my father shortly after they were wed. I inherited after he died..." She looked up at Maeraya. The baker's hard gaze on the man broke, and she wiped her eye with the tip of her apron at the mention of Ireth's father. She backed up, giving the stranger a final glare, and ushered her apprentice into a back room, leaving Ireth and Tallis alone.

She watched them go before shifting her sight back to Tallis. "I had fun, actual fun today. I'm always so against fighting and violence, but that man was a bother... And running..."

Melodies in Ravok

Postby Tallis Ishtari on June 17th, 2013, 11:42 pm

Sitting with his hands still intertwined Tallis was happy to see that Ireth’s flute was none the worse for wear. It would have been a shame if it had been damaged in anyway. There would have also been a horrible sense of guilt laid upon his chest because it would have been his fault if the flute had even a scratch upon it. There would have been no amount of money that could replace such an item. A tiny smile touched his eyes when he remembered what a beautiful tune she had played on it. He was satisfied that his moment of malice had turned to just another harmless adventure.

Seeing that the baker had left had not gone unnoticed. Tallis now felt a little freer to speak with expecting a round of verbal backlash from someone he did not know. He chuckled softly at hearing again that Ireth had fun. After all, what’s life if you can’t have a little fun? “I’m against violence as well.” He said with a shrug. “There are times though that it is necessary. Like today.”

Tallis remained silent as he thought about what he had to say next. He liked this girl, and to know that she was a friend of his sister endeared her to him even further. “I have something to tell you Ireth.” He scratched the stubble on his chin as he took a nervous looked toward the doorway that lead to the back. He felt he should tell her about his criminal past and his association with organized crime but decided that it was best if she did not know. He took a different path. “I plan on leaving Ravok in the next few weeks. Not sure where I’ll go, but I need to leave the city for a while.” He said softly so as his voice would not travel far. The way he spoke left the impression that it was important that he leave the city that he knew so well.

Melodies in Ravok

Postby Ireth Telemnar on June 18th, 2013, 12:55 am

Taking her finger, Ireth traced the grain in the wood, contemplating Tallis's words. To leave Ravok, to leave Ravok?

"Really? Where will you go? What'll you do?" Catching herself, she gave him a quizzical look. Before he could stop her, she got up from the booth and started pacing the shop floor.

"Listen to me, worrying about you. I've known you for but a day! But, to leave Ravok... Will you be back? When?"

Her pacing paused, thoughts flying. Why do I care? He is but a stranger. A friendly, helpful, hilarious stranger sure. But someone I don't know all the same. For all I know, why, he could be some sort of criminal! Or not...

Melodies in Ravok

Postby Tallis Ishtari on June 18th, 2013, 11:05 pm

It was interesting seeing Ireth shoot up from the table and start to pace. He had not expected it. If it was not for it being unexpected he might have found it amusing. Expecting her to care as much as she was showing also was not expected. He had just met her today. Like himself, she was a lifelong resident of Ravok. One thing a lifer on Ravok almost never did was leave their city. It was the place they were happiest. The outside world and their care, and even their wars meant nothing to a Ravokian. The only people that left were those that had good reason to. Tallis had one of those good reasons.

He shrugged. “Not sure when I’ll be back, a season or two at the most possibly longer than that. It all depends on the circumstances here that I’ve seemed to have gotten myself entangled with. That and I would like to see what else it out there in the world. I’ve been to Syrilas once. I spent a few months there and I put a spark in me to see what else is out there.” Tallis knew there was no spark there to see other regions of the world, it just sounded like a good lie to hide the truth that there were those that would see him rise to higher heights in the underworld of Ravok, and have him do things that he did not want to do. “Haven’t you ever wondered what else it out there?”

Melodies in Ravok

Postby Ireth Telemnar on June 19th, 2013, 2:51 am

Ireth stopped, gazing out the bakery window. The light was fading now, sunset was upon Ravok. From across the dock, the lake mirrored the intense beauty of the setting sun. Looking down at Tallis, she sighed, her eyes misting over. "I have been out there. I've been to the ocean, when I was small. It was the most beautiful, scary, brilliant, awe inspiring thing I've ever seen."

She slid back into her side of the booth. Shaking her head, she wiped her eyes angrily. "I don't know you. But I do know that I'm going to be your friend, and if you ever need me, I'm here. Mizahar outside of Ravok is different. Our gracious Rhysol may watch you, but they fear him."

Reaching across gently, she laid her hand on his folded ones. "May Rhysol watch you friend. Have fun, but don't forget this city. My city. Your city."

She felt a little awkward, but there was strength in her words.

Melodies in Ravok

Postby Tallis Ishtari on June 19th, 2013, 10:23 am

In the brief silence that fell over him after Ireth spoke he had a moment of doubt. Rhysol would protect him and The Voice would guide him. There were a lot of dangers in the world that he had not spent any time thinking about. The fight or flight instinct had kicked in without even a thought about what he may be facing. All he knew was the he would be with Marxander, and together they could conquer anything. If he stayed he would be faced with death. It may not be a physical one, at least not yet, but it would be a death to the life as he knew it. Then there were the slavers that wanted to capture his Kelvic lover and him and then torture him to get him to recant his bond with her. He did not see any other choice. It would be flight.

He heaved a heavy sigh and unlaced his fingers from each other. “Yes, Rhysol protect me as I journey. I do hope to come back before too long, but there are things that I need to run from here in Ravok, at least for a little while. I look forward to seeing you again when I come back to our city. I will miss this place. It’s peacefulness, its ability to stay out of world affairs. Rhysol has giving us a great boon of life in our city. There are dangers in this city Ireth… just be careful out there. Not every thief out there is as nice as me.” There it was… he let it slip. Maybe she did not catch his tiny slip of the tongue. Thankfully a crash from the back of the bakery broke the tension that had been building. He smiled thoughtfully. “Our city is a peaceful one. Rhysol be thanked!”

Good job!

Ireth: I don't know if this is still an issue since this thread was written a while ago, but I just wanted to suggest perhaps sticking more to past tense. That is all :)

I'm a newbie and will make mistakes, so please don't hesitate to PM me with questions, comments, or concerns! Also, please remember to either delete your grade request or edit it as "graded."
