Bernedett was sitting at his table, pouring over some books that he had on lone from the Library. He had been studying for a week now, trying to understand some a bit more about the Zeltivan political structure. He was particularly interested in the passing of power. Ever since the announcement, Bernedett had been seriously worried. This could shake the foundations of Zeltiva, especially if anyone was staging a coup.
"I can just see someone trying it! There's no doubt that someone with political aspirations is going to pull something!"
Bernedett couldn't take it. He had been cooped up for a while now, and he had to do something to clear his head. Then it hit him! He'd just go for a run. It would get him out in the fresh air, and it would clear his head in the process. It wasn't late( only about the 5th afternoon bell) and it would only take him an hour or two.
"I guess it wouldn't hurt. It's been a while anyway, and I need to get my mind off of things."
Bernedett stepped out of the house, and started on his way. He'd take a run over to the Denvali Quarter, and then head back. He estimated that he should be back before it got to dark, so he wouldn't have to bring anything with him. |

Laugh ringing like a peal of eerie bells, Reign made her way through the Denvali Quarter, taking mental notes of what places appeared like they could be an easy steal. Anticipation flooded her. It had been too long since her last burglary; perhaps for good reason. They were always such complicated operations; with the breaking in and escaping bit added to the normal good ‘ol fashion thievery. They were great fun when gone correctly, but too many a time had Reign found herself scrambling away from the authorities with chunks of glass piercing her arms and an unpleasant limp from throwing herself head first out of a window. There were the good nights though, when the adrenaline and the thrill of success made the thief drunk with confidence, those were the nights where she believed herself untouchable. A lord among thieves, no! A Queen of thieves; wedded to the shadows, infallible. Sometimes she would even find a home of a wealthy fool that left their door unlocked. Pain always followed such nights though. Bloody, blistered feet were close to always a result, as well as a dreadful cold from over exposure to a frosty night. While she wasn’t much of a sneak, shoes made an enormous difference in the pursuit of going about quietly. And she couldn’t drag along her cloak or jacket on burglary nights, the fabric would infamously rustle whenever she crouched and plus, less clothing she was wearing the harder she was to follow. A little girl dressed in black fleeing into the night would be more difficult to locate than a large billowing cloak.
Tossing a purloined apple into the air, Reign smiled giddily at a group of passer biers. Most of them appeared to be the upper class type and wrinkled their noses at the thief’s disheveled appearance and shoeless state. It might be you tonight, she thought, keeping eye contact with them until they passed. It might be you… Ready to embark upon another hour of casing, Reign was about to take a eager bite into her apple when out of nowhere… |

WHAM!
Bernedett felt a bit of wind get knocked out of him. He had been running along, not a care in the world, and obviously had not been paying very good attention to his surroundings, as happened often on his runs. He'd never run into anyone before, though. He had always believed he was the only one in town who had an interest in running for the fun of it.
Bernedett, clutching his chest, fell on his hind quarters trying to catch his breath. He noticed that a random apple was rolling down the street now, most likely belonging to whomever he had run into. He looked up to catch a glimpse of this person, and noticed that it was a young lady he had not seen before.
She was wearing all black garments, and was completely shoe-less. Her hair was frazzled, and looked as if it hadn't been washed in a while. She was not an ugly girl, but she looked frail, and did appear dirty, and a bit tom-boyish. Really, by the state of her, he felt a little pity.
"I'm very sorry, my lady! Are you hurt at all?" he said, concerned. |

Head slamming back against the cold ground, Reign’s vision blurred with tears. Oh that was not ideal. With the wind knocked out of her, the thief was forced to gasp for breath, digging her nails into the ground beside her. "I'm very sorry, my lady! Are you hurt at all?" a concerned voiced sounded above Reign.
Clutching her side, Reign sat up, nodding at the young man. On most occasions like this she would have given the runner an earful, but she was simply too out of breath. Once, back in Ravok, a large, pudgy man had bowled the thief over while on a hurry to make a dinner party. He hadn’t stopped, just wrinkled his nose as his foot crushed her wrist (as though his enormous self was too high and mighty to snap the wrist of trash) and tossed a copper back at her, neglecting to turn and face her. Minutes later Daniel surfaced, carrying her home and promising her revenge. She couldn’t recall exactly what Daniel had done to that man, but she remembered him taking his shovel out and disappearing for a few days… But that pompous fool deserved whatever came to him, her wrist still clicked sometimes.
But this man seemed genuinely sorry and besides, nothing felt broken, which was splendid for she hadn’t the money to hire a healer anyways. Her forearms were scraped and a small stream of blood, trickled down her wrist, though they were minor injuries compared to her usual. “W-what w-were you d-doing?” The thief demanded, taking careful wheezing breathes after each word. |
