2nd Day of Summer World’s End Grotto Burten Maze, father of Ricky Maze was in Zeltiva. Although Tallis had extreme faith in Zulrav, he hadn’t expected the God of Storms to answer his prayers this quickly. From what Tallis had heard from Ricky only four days ago, the man had been missing for years. And now he had suddenly turned up and even had the audacity to hide from his son in plain sight. Tallis couldn’t understand what Burten was thinking. If he knew the pains his son had gone through, he would realize that Ricky needed his father in his life. As far as Tallis was concerned, he couldn’t continue observing Ricky’s life: He needed to be a part of it. And Tallis would do his best to make sure he was. As he left his house in search of Burten, Zulrav’s winds spoke to him. There was a storm coming. After several days of warm weather, it wasn’t surprising that there would be a bit of rain. As he wound his way through the streets, making his way towards the World’s End Grotto, the downpour began to start. Most people would have considered the storm an ill omen. Not Tallis. He took the storm as a sign from Zulrav. The God of Storms had answered his prayers before and was watching over him now. Anyone who visited Zeltiva knew that the World’s End Grotto was the place to stay and Tallis was sure that Burten could be found there. He was going to coax the old man out of hiding, no matter how long it took and no matter how stubborn he was. Approaching the front desk, Tallis was greeted by a woman he assumed to be the owner of the Grotto: “It’s comin’ down out there, innit? Yer lucky ta have made it here before the rain got ye!” The woman had a friendly and hospitable air around her and was most likely one of the reasons the Inn was so popular. “Are ya hidin’ from the downpour or shall I set up a room for ye?” “On no, no room, miss. Actually, I was wondering if you could help me find a guest? I’m a family friend of his you see,” it wasn’t too far of a stretch. If Tallis could reconnect Ricky and his father, he was sure the Maze family would appreciate him, “His name’s Burten. Burten Maze?” The woman’s brow furrowed for a bit, before her eyes suddenly lit up with recognition: “Oh! Yer looking for Old Burt, eh? Yes, yes, he’s here. Room twenty-three. Up the stairs and on yer left!” Thanking the woman for all her help, Tallis rushed up the stairs and quickly found the room he was looking for. Rapping his knuckles against the door and taking a step back, he waited for a response. “Mister Maze? It’s me, Tallis? I was the guest sitting beside you at the party yesterday?” One thing was certain, he would not be taking “no” for an answer. He would even use flux to kick the door down if he had to. |
