Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

11th, Summer, 513AV, Midday

Lacerta wasn't exactly paying attention to her immediate surroundings. Starry Sea was anchored, with Riverfall just in sight, floating on calm waters. She sat with her back against the mast, legs crossed, and eyes closed. But it wasn't as if she wasn't seeing. She was using Syna's gift to gaze around her range, looking at nothing in particular. Most of what she could observe was water, water, and more water, though she could touch the edges of Riverfall as well.

She'd spent the past two bells doing this, gazing at nothing in particular, just... watching. She spotted a few sea-going animals swimming around, and one or two boats, but nothing that really caught her interest. Sometimes it was nice to simply sit and absorb Syna's rays, enjoying the weather. It was an interesting feeling, watching everything as if she was a bird, as if she was only fifty feet away.

Due to her concentration on all around her, the Eth was mostly ignorant of the things happening on her ship, that she would have normally noticed. But there was nothing happening, and nothing to see. Her possessions were safely stowed away inside, and her ship securely anchored to the sea floor. The only thing that could, or would, surprise her would be an approaching ship or animal, which, if big enough, she would probably notice beforehand.

OOCSorry for the short intro! Just pop in and startle her or something :)

Water and Music (Jh'eon)

Postby Jh'eon on June 21st, 2013, 7:17 am

Jh'eon swam through the sea and hummed a tune to himself. It was a tune he had learned as a child, a young tune in Char. He loved it. It was about a Charoda who went up to the land and what adventures he had had there. Of course, it wasn't real so Jh'eon was unlikely to have an "adventure" - but in a way he had had one. Travelling through the Sea of Grass to find his brother and sister, exiling himself - he had done an adventure of his own in a way. He focused more on the tune and completely forgot to look up and saw the boat coming for him. He kicked off from the boat, and pushed himself backwards before he saw an anchor. He gripped onto the rope and was about to spin when the anchor gave a loud grunt and he let go quickly. He saw an Ethaeful on the boat, looking around. Jh'eon assumed she could seem him, but he wasn't sure on it. So he swam up anyway and burst his head out of the water. He looked at the Ethaeful and then realised she hadn't saw him in the first place and he went silent, his face feeling like an oven. You are an idiot...

OOCAnd sorry for extremely short reply. xD I will make longer posts later in the thread.

Water and Music (Jh'eon)

Lacerta felt her boat rock slightly, and she jerked her eyes open in surprise. Suddenly, dual visions filled her eyes, and then a bright flash of light. She blinked her eyes several times to clear the feeling, while cursing quietly under her breath. Well... no more sun sight for her today. With another grumble, she heaved herself up to look for the source of the noise and movement. Her legs and back ached for sitting for such a long time, but she tried to ignore it, moving stiffly and scowling slightly.

She wandered down to one of her railings and glanced at the water, finding the source. A fishy head was poking up out of the water, looking hugely embarrassed. It took the Eth a few moments of contemplation to figure out what he was, but it quickly came to her. "Well Charoda... what can I do for you today?" she asked as she leaned on the side of the boat. She rolled her shoulders, attempting to work out some of the stiffness she'd obtained. At least she was luckier than most humans who tried this. She didn't need food, or water during the day, and was immune to sunburns. Sometimes, if one stayed like that long enough, they might actually kill themselves, forgetting about their body's needs in the hot sunshine.

Water and Music (Jh'eon)

Jh'eon looked carefully at the Ethaefal. Could she be trusted? He had just appeared out of the blue, so of course she must be wary of him. It was not often you were sailing and your boat started shaking and a Charoda just burst out of the water, talking to you. It was not ordinary in the least. He spoke. "I was just swimming on this day. Charodae we do not live without water. I must have clashed with your boat and did something to your anchor. I apologise if I caused any disturbances." He thought carefully. What else could he say to explain his appearance? Not much, since that was the only reason - he was bathing in water. "Do you need anything from me, strange Ethaefal from nowhere," he responded, smiling inside to himself. "Do you need I?" He murmured and heard a cry in the air. "What was that?" He sighed when he realised it was only an animal. He was behaving like a child at this rate. He felt so stupid in so many ways right now.

Lacerta was leaning over the stern of her ship, the one side without any railing. The little Charoda interested her, though she wasn't quite sure why yet. She raised an eyebrow at his name for him. "I cam out of nowhere?" she asked, slightly doubting this. "You came out of nowhere. I was sitting here, perfectly fine, before you came along." It was true that she was still blinking that strange feeling out of her eyes. It was the one problem with her gift.. the after effects.

She smiled slightly at his childish actions, startled by a seagull flying through the sky. "A seagull" she answered with a small smile, adjusting her seat... before crashing into the water, nearly on top of the fishy creature. She'd unbalanced herself, and that had caused the fall, which caused her to flail about helplessly in the water.

She spluttered, kicking with her legs and pushing with her arms. She couldn't swim well, but the one thing she knew was not to overly panic when you fell into the water. That generally made things much worse. She glared at nothing in particular, though her gaze was accidentally focused on the Charoda. "Syna... dammit..." she grunted, irritated. The water was refreshing, and a small part of the Eth wished that she could swim, rather than be helpless in the liquid.

Thinking on that, she came up with an idea. "Hey... do you think you could teach me the basics of swimming?' she asked, grabbing a hold of her boat with one arm. She rested there, kicking lightly, as it seemed to keep her afloat.

Water and Music (Jh'eon)

Jh'eon felt humiliated when he found out it was just a seagull. He sighed. "I should have known. I am getting too worried nowadays, you see." Then he saw her crash and Jh'eon, alarmed, jumped out of the way and the two of them made a massive splash. Everything had gone chaotic in his view. When he balanced himself, he saw that she was kicking and pushing, trying to swim. Then she said the words. "Hey...do you think you could teach me the basics of swimming?" The Charoda saw the Eth was really trying to swim. But she couldn't. That was the whole point. Jh'eon nodded. "First of all, don't panic. You are more likely to drown if you panic any more, and drowning will lead to your death." He started thinking. He had been raised by his family - swimming was a Charodae instinct. How to teach an Ethaefal may be harder than him or her knew it would be. Jh'eon made swift arm movements and his legs moved and he swam to the Eth and spoke. "Be careful at first - if you drown I will help you up." He looked at her seriously. "But if you do drown, you will get back onto that boat and pretend you never saw me. The sea is no place to swim at for a beginning learner, such as yourself. Too much possibilities of death, whether that be by storm, fish, drowning, net trap and many other things I will not go into detail about now."

Jh'eon turned and held onto the edge of the boat. "Lets practice kicking should we?" And he made all the arm and leg movements required and looked into her face. "Are you ready to try?" He pulled himself under the water and gave a sign to go on. Hopefully his time would not be wasted. Hopefully she would be able to learn quickly. He knew some learners took forever to master it but he surprised himself by letting himself willing to help her should she fail. So he watched from under the water, waiting patiently.

Water and Music (Jh'eon)

Lacerta watched the Charboda intently, though found it hard to watch through the water. Basically... he kicked his legs by waving them back and forth. It didn't look too challenging, and she prepared herself to swim. The Eth took a deep breath and dunked herself fully underwater, and tried to flatten her body out like the Char's. It felt... strange here, like everything was pushing on her. She also felt herself slowly sinking... and needing air. Quickly, she tried the move he showed her, kicking slowly. It was awkward, and she had to push against the water hard to get anywhere.

Within ticks, she felt her lungs bursting, and she began scrabbling for the surface. Her hands tried to grab the air, and she attempted to kick, like she'd done sideways. She burst out of the water a few meters from where she'd started, breathing heavily. She tried returning to her boat, arms pulling at the water and legs kicking. She moved slowly, almost at a crawl, but she finally reached the edge and grabbed it, head bent in exhaustion. That last moment in the water had been pretty scary... and was something she didn't want to try again.

When Lacerta finally regained her breath, she looked back at the Char, a question in her eyes. "Was that... what I was supposed to do?" she asked weakly, not really sure how badly she'd messed up. It irritated her to not be good at something, but... well... at least it wasn't in complete public. It was just her, the Char, and the occasional fish. Still... she didn't like embarrassing herself in front of people.

Water and Music (Jh'eon)

Postby Jh'eon on June 27th, 2013, 5:59 am

Jh'eon considered to himself. "You didn't completely succeed nor did you completely fail." It was true. She was pushing against the water really hard and had to come from out the water very soon after. "You pushed the water harder than you should have and travelled only a few -" He contemplated. "The problem is you have just begun and to try in the sea is a massive jump from what is ideal for a beginning swimmer. However if you are still willing and wanting to learn then I can continue. However you can easily just tell me you want to give up." Jh'eon gasped for breath and dunked into the water, swimming. "Do not come down here...for only water dwellers can breathe in it."

He continued swimming, and took a bit of coral. He sang to it, and tried manipulating it. Sadly it did not do much other than make coral grow a tiny bit. He took a fresh bit of coral and swam back up.

He handed the Ethaefal a bit of coral. "If you are drowning, wave the coral and I will pull you back up." He nodded and spoke. "If you want to, go and swim. But remember - the choice is yours."

Lacerta was slightly confused at the Char's answer, but left it, as he explained it decently afterwards. So.. don't kick so hard? And starting in the sea wasn't the best idea. Oh well... she had a Charoda and a ship next to her, things probably wouldn't get too bad... right? She sighed deeply and watched as her tutor dived down, warning her not to follow. Like she would. A few chimes later, he came back with a tiny piece of coral, and offered it to her. She took it, along with the instructions on how to signal the fishy creature using it. She nodded, and, grasping it in her right hand, pushed away from the boat.

This time she didn't go under the water, and instead paddled around, pulling at the liquid with her hands awkwardly, and kicking with her feet. Her head was stretched high above the water, as she didn't want to get the salty stuff in her mouth. After a few moments of this, trying to go in a circle, she grabbed her boat again and stared at the Char. "There must be something better to do with my hands than this... can you teach me?" she asked, slightly irritated, but determined to become better. The water was slightly chilly, but the sun's light warmed her, so she didn't mind.

Water and Music (Jh'eon)

Postby Jh'eon on June 28th, 2013, 8:57 pm

Jh'eon sighed on the inside. He had tried to avoid it but he would be dragged to leading this Eth to swim. "This is how to do the strokes required for swimming." Jh'eon swiftly moved to position. He stretched out his arms and his legs. "This is the easiest form of swimming." And he lowered his right arm and pushed, them switched to left arm and then pushed. He kept changing from arm to arm and at the same time did the same with the legs with kicking. Left to right, right to left. It went on. He then stopped and poked his head out. He waded in, next to the Ethaefal and the boat. He smiled at her. "If you can accomplish that, then we can move to the more challenging moves. I am not asking you to perform every stroke in existence on the spot. I am just asking that you learn the basics, and then can improve from then and continuing on." He realised quickly he had forgotten everything. In the water - he felt free. This Ethaefal had had an odd effect on him. Teaching someone to swim, to be freed by the water, to be released from the limits of land was an experience he was enjoying - enjoying despite his unwillingness at the start.

Jh'eon nodded. "Just before you go and do it, I will show you one more time..." And he kicked off from the boat and swam, left, right, right, left. He continued a couple of metres and stopped, and called. "Your turn!"
