The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

The Vaspura River

The winding Kabrin road had brought the zith to the banks of a river that stretched towards the sea. Irriari was excited for a chance to scrub the dirt from her skin and refill her water canteen. The river was a sanctuary, so long as she stayed far enough from the Kabrin Road that she wouldn’t be seen. Irriari peeled off her sweat filled armor and walked up the edges of the river. While she wanted nothing more than to spend the evening hours basking in the moonlit river, she knew that her poisoncrafting kit was lacking materials. Her previous attempts to shoot game with poisoned arrows had failed miserably.

Other than the grasses that she had seen to the point of nausea, very few plants had taken root at the edges of the river. There were more plants a few feet away from the banks, and the zith bent down to examine a cluster of berries that grew from a dark stemmed plant. The plant was unlike anything she had found within the tunnels of the colony. She stretched out her hand and touched the stem, noting how rigid it was in comparison to the delicate green tipped leaves. The berries were distributed in tight bunched near the ends of the branches. Irriari picked one and rolled it in between the pads of her thumb and pointer finger until it exploded. A surprisingly large amount of purple juice exploded from the tiny capsule. She quickly wiped her fingers on the surrounding grasses. While she had never found a plant that poisoned through skin contact, there was a first time for everything.
Irriari spent the next five chimes slowly digging at the earth beneath the plant. If she dug too quickly or pulled the plant straight from the ground, a good number of berries would fall off the plant and be lost to the ground at her feet. Irriari dug a large circle around the plant that extended a half foot from the base of the plant in all directions. When she had finally extracted the plant from the soil, Irriari tapped the roots lightly to knock off excess dirt. The plant was then folded in half at the middle of the stem and placed into an airtight jar.

After the jar was placed safely in her poisoncrafting kit, Irriari began walking south along the bank, searching for more of the intriguing plant.

Another Zith! (Shausha)

19 Winter 510
___________________________________________________________________________________________

Gone were the days where a quick splash in the rain run-off pool that collected in a cavern of Xy would substitute for a thorough cleaning. She flapped her wings, charting a straight course to the South bank of the Vaspura river. The river was the widest there and the current was not yet developed into the crashing rapids that were found near the sea.

Going out to the river alone wasn’t necessarily the wisest thing, but her filthy body needed the cleaning and her restlessness, the water’s cold comfort. There was also the fact that it was the dead of night; No travelers that valued their lives roamed this close to Xy at night. Shausha picked up the pace at which she flew, nearing the shining strip of water that cut through the land, nurturing growth to the plants that gathered near its edges.

Shausha dropped to the ground, slowing from a jog as she lost momentum. Thoroughly excited, she kicked a few rocks into the rippling surface of the water and hopped around gleefully.

She unbuckled her harness and let it drop around her feet. Stepping out of it, Shausha sniffed the air tentatively. The soil and trees took the foreground of the scent, but she did taste traces of animal and zith intertwined. As she stepped close to the bank, she saw the shadows of several zith dart across the surface of the river. Their chattering faded as they flew southeast, back to where Shausha came from.

She looked around for a place to store her article of clothing and spotted a promising bit of dense overgrowth. With a giant, wing-aided leap, Shausha landed in the nearby brush. There, a few tall plants with small clumps of berries shuddered as she stepped through them and towards a chunk of rock. While she was wedging her harness between two rocks, she gave a start and fell backwards in surprise. A large bird rose suddenly from behind the rock she had just disturbed. Wiping berry juice and dirt from her rear and back, she chided the bird that was now long gone, cursing it and waving a hand angrily.

Still muttering darkly, Shausha returned to the water’s surface. Before she could reach the water's edge, she again had to leap back towards the rock formation. This time, she had caught the sound of sand and gravel crunching underfoot. Relaxing slightly, she realized the scent was Zith. She peered out from behind the rock, watching for the stranger’s approach.

Coming into view was a female zith; Shausha figured they were about the same age and bit her lip, smiling. Mischievousness was on the menu, and Shausha carefully wiggled in place as she prepared to pounce. The thin girl was taller than Shausha and had deep gray toned fur. Looking closer, she saw that the silvery hair the stranger had tucked behind her ears framed quite a savage and beautiful face. Shausha wrinkled her nose in jealousy when she saw the enormous wings that Valterrian had blessed this girl with. Seeing as they were both unarmed, Shausha would hope the consequences of her little caper wouldn't leave her bleeding.

The girl must have been very distracted by gathering plants (or whatever it was she was doing) because she only picked up Shausha’s scent when they were mere meters away. Lips stretched thin in a smile, Shausha watched as the girl turned around and around, trying to locate her. When she turned around once more, Shausha leapt from her hiding place, soaring through the air, pouncing upon her target and shrieking at the top of her lungs. They toppled over and rolled down the sloping bank, into the cold shallows. Shausha, now wiping tears of hilarity from her eyes with one hand, prepared for the retaliation with the other.
