Bodies writhing to the basal beats, sweat kissed and trembling, grinding against one another as a way of flirting with a more fundamental desire the Inarta were known to possess in droves. A tamed debauchery that gave their little home purpose beyond just survival, and made the rigors of their existence seem more trivial…at least for the time being. In short, it was no place for an Endal like Raif to be.

He’d come to the Inclement Weather at the behest of one who sought to save him, a pressing need to escape from the aerie if just for a night. Thoughts concerning only the colony’s survival could break a man in time, corrode his thoughts and drip venom into weakened veins--no matter how seriously he may have taken himself. So, pushed and shoved down through labyrinthine warrens into the belly of their granite home, Raif now found himself amid a sea of his kin, tugged at the wrist by a woman who cared for him enough to at least try to get through to him.

It wouldn’t work. It never worked.

Brought to a smaller alcove where a group of friends lay huddled conspiratorially together around a small table, Raif’s presence was greeted with a mixture of both incredulousness and dread. You couldn’t live in a place like Wind Reach without having some form of a reputation as an Endal, and he had done so little to sew any sense of compassion into his. It came as no surprise, then, when a life-depriving silence filled the mouths of those gathered around.

“This is Ireri, Lelir, Sanica, and Rilus,” the crimson haired woman who had dragged him here chirped over the din, offering a smile that could melt even the hardest of hearts.

But Raif could sense that those named didn’t want to greet him almost as much as he held no interest in meeting them. It left them all with curt, accosting nods and nothing more, eyes quickly cast in different directions as if trying to escape the discomfort of the situation. But such things could not so easily be diffused. At least not by conventional means…

Suddenly she was offering him something in the flat of her palm she‘d plucked off the center of the table. A sack of some sort whose contents lacked any definable hue. ”What is it?” he asked, already eying the small container with a hint of suspicion as he fed it into his grasp for closer examination. It hardly left an impression against his fingertips, appearing so delicate he felt applying just an ounce of pressure might destroy the whole thing.

“Just inhale it. It will make you feel better, I promise.” Her smile was soft, if not the least bit mischievous in its delivery.

”Drugs?” His face grew horror stricken, levying the gift to the hand that had offered it to him in the first place. “Absolutely not. You can’t…”

“Lighten up, dek licker!” Grabbing both wrist and hand, she gently pushed back against his insistence. “You Endal and your stiff upper lips. Always defying death, but when it comes to a little vapor, you squirm in your knickers.”

Words enough to make him regret the curtain of self assurance he draped consciously over himself, staring at the small aquatic sac with more than a healthy dose of skepticism. But when push came to shove, Raif was not one to concede to signs of weakness. A character flaw that seemed to punish him more than serve.

Bringing it up to his teeth, and eying the girl with a fiery brilliance reflected in his eye, the Endal sliced its thin skin beneath the edge of his right canine and inhaled the earthy tang of its contents down his throat.

Instantly a wave of euphoria splashed over him, resonating from his forehead and sauntering across his scalp like pixie fingers raking tangles of hair. It cast his eyelids aflutter and sunk irises back into their sockets, momentarily disengaging him from reality and causing his sense of balance to slip. Feeling a firm hand along his upper arm to support him, Raif was able to anchor himself long enough that he soon retrieved each dispossessed faculty, eyes turning once again to the light. Something…Everything…was different.

A natural desire to explore his body filled him, gaze cast to his widening palms in what felt like the very first time he’d ever done so. Delighting in the manner in which his fingertips twitched and the life he came to a sterling realization that he possessed, Raif felt himself slipping towards the dance floor and away from those who now fostered beguiled expressions at the table.

The Endal felt an uncanny desire to feel the pulse of life spread fiercely within him.

It felt good to get away. Away from work, away from friends, even away from Kovac, with whom she usually spent her free time. No matter how social she was, and tried to be, Euthisa would always enjoy select moments and nights of solitude. Tonight is one of those nights, she thought as she downed her drink and shifted position in her seat at the bar. The lack of light in the stone carve-away, the "free" atmosphere filling the space inside, and the thumping bodies and beat of music behind her, made for a perfect place to escape to. Inclement Weather was a favorite place for Euthisa to unwind at, whether she was there with friends or by herself.

Tonight she partied alone. None of her friends even knew she was there. The goal of the night was to relax and get away, and so far, she'd succeeded in doing so. Her recently finished drink was her third so far, and she was feeling the effects already. Time to slow down before I fall down, she thought to herself. Thus far, she hadn't run into anyone she knew in the club, and she honestly wasn't sure how she'd react if she did. Euthisa also didn't know how up to meeting new people, or a new person, she was, but she put the inquisitions out of her mind to deal with when/if the scenario came to life. Now was time to have fun.

Slowly standing, letting her body adjust to movement with alcohol burning inside her, Euthisa left her seat at the bar and began making her way onto the dance floor. A sea of red-headed sweaty bodies moved before her, bumping and grinding, feeling the music, and like the typical Inartan way, spent a lot of time in physical contact, in one way or another. Personal bubbles didn't exist for the fiery-haired bird lovers, which had always set Euthisa just slightly apart from her fellow people. She wasn't the typical touchy-feely wandering spirit most of Wind Reach's inhabitants were. She wasn't exactly opposed either, but she wasn't so physically forward. She lived each day doing the things she needed to do and never usually worried about much else, including past times, and lonely nights.

She reached the dance floor, the hot muggy smell of sweat and panted breaths filling her nose and the air all around her. Ducking and squeezing past a dozen bodies, Euthisa pushed herself part way into the circle of dancers. Closing her eyes, reveling in the warm tingles flustering in her stomach, Euthisa found the beat of the music and began dancing. She swayed and twisted, her hips bumping and rotating in time with the rhythm all around her. Her hands traveled up her own body and tangled in her hair, down and flowing with each of her movements. Her curls bounced back and forth over her shoulders, and soon another body molded to hers, following her movements, another set of hands in her hair and on her waist. Euthisa's only reaction was to lean into him, or her, she didn't care to check, and to keep dancing. The song soon ended and her dance partner left. Back to solitary fun, Euthisa stopped to catch her breath and waited for the next song to begin so she could dance again.

It was a sliver of hesitance. No more than a fleeting whisper, hollow as if it were passing through a thick wall of fog. This is not you, he could hear it say, gentler than the caress of a warm breeze in late fall--a lover‘s sweet nothing tickling the ear. Only an ounce of disappointment splashed its tonal surface, felt dimly, but not acknowledged. The drug was the master now, the voice of his reason no more than a child’s silent doe-eyed stare with arm solicitously outstretched. A hairline crack in his comfortably disentangled state.

The aura of his solemnity became slowly unbound, revealing a man who could afford a lazy smile, stitched upon thin lips as though it was the most natural thing in the world for him. And perhaps at one time that had been true. After all, no man was born with a cruel heart such as Raif‘s. That sort of enmity took time to mold, and a healthy smattering of emotional trauma placed carefully throughout his years. One could say he was no more than a product of his experiences, but then again, the Endal knew that wasn’t entirely true…

Swimming through a small host of sweat sleeked bodies, Raif could feel the unbidden ripples of pleasure pass through him with each unavoidable brush of a limb against skin. It filled him with a carnal desire of sorts, though it was more a tactile fascination that he began humming sweetly in tune with. Raised on occasion into a capricious snicker that flushed the Endal‘s cheeks, it prompted a sudden, insatiable craving for greater exposure. And nothing got quite as manifestly intimate as that of dancing with another in the Inclement Weather.

He found her just as the next song was beginning to crawl along the walls and fill the room, her sinuous curves attracting his eye with naught but the tiniest morsel of a cursory glance. Like lines in a painting he admired each stroke the gods had deemed fit to gift her with, a palpable ache stretching through to his fingertips with fierce desire to explore every permissible inch of her. At that moment, there simply was not an Inarta more radiantly beautiful than her.

And then the music. The powerful staccato of bass and snare resonated within him the way thunder settled down into the pit of his stomach, giving his legs more than a singularly mundane purpose for perhaps the first time in his life. Raif let himself be mindlessly consumed by it, thrown into the rolling sea until he could feel its omnipotent rhythm surround him. His hips surrendered, his hands searched, and therein found the lines of another his fingers had desperately longed for.

There was a silent confidence about him as he stepped in front of her, the russet coins of his eyes joyfully drowning in the exotic ebb and flow of her body. It became a riddle he knew only the act of touching her could solve, falling slowly into step with each contortion she made. Gliding his right hand around to the small of her back, Raif braced his left gingerly against the sloping curve of her hip. Fabric and flesh mingled in such a way that weighted his breath, and turned his eyes into two black pools of desire.

The bass and rhythm of the next song permeated the air, cueing the crowd of warm bodies into motion yet again. Hips swayed and bodies contorted as the beats changed pace throughout the song. Another joined her, falling into step with her motions, hands gripping her close to him. He was in front of her, and her gaze lifted to lock with his as they danced. Her own hands reached around his visibly muscular body, one resting on his back beneath his shoulder, the other on his side near his hip. He was several inches taller than her, but didn't seem to mind looking down at her, or her body. A cunning smile adorned her lips as her mind flowed with ideas to make things interesting.

Momentarily leaning her body away from the man before her, Euthisa leaned her upper body forward, brushing against his torso, while the rest of her body followed suit. The motion was snake-like and resulted in her entire body slowly brushing against his. She then turned in his hands and backed up into him, hands reaching behind her to grip his hips, helping him stay with her movements. Pulling her hair over her shoulders, the librarian turned seductress leaned her hips into his and followed the beat of the music resounding in the air. Swaying back and forth, in circles, and periodically thumping with the bass, the pair danced for what seemed like hours and minutes all in the same instant.

Breathing heavy and feeling the beads of sweat dripping down her body, the current song ended, and like freezing time, the movement on the dance floor ceased as well. Turning to face her company, Euthisa flashed a giddy smile, reaching down to grip his hand in hers. "How about a drink?" Eyes and body encouraging him to oblige her, she began to slowly back up towards the bar, gently tugging at him to follow her. She only hoped he would, for he was handsome and she wanted to know more of him.

OOCSorry it's kind of short. I struggled a little bit. I hope I left you enough to work with! If not, let me know and I'll edit it.
