Solo Sometimes, a girl just won't listen

when a young girl refuses to listen, you just have to give her something, even if it's not exactly what she came for

While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

[8th day of summer 513.a.v.]
[Lake Shore]
[Early morning - evening]

She woke up early in the morning, earlier than usual. When Amelia looked around, she saw a room that was not hers. It had a beautiful wallpaper design, that gradient from a dark, dark red to a pleasant, blood orange. The curtains where thin and colored in two, creating a game of light on her body. The bed was soft, yes, she was not home. She was in her father’s house. But she didn’t remember how she got up in this room, or how did she undress. ”dad…” he must have carried her up, that was so much like him.

Without much thinking, Amelia got dressed and left the room she was in. The opposite door was her father’s room, or the master bedroom. She just smiled, sure that her father was still asleep…or already left. He was rarely to be found indoors, so she didn’t bother knocking. Amelia walked down slowly, and rushed to the kitchen to grab herself a bite. Her father didn’t have anything fancy around, he preferred to eat out and so, most of the things that could be found were basic. Amelia didn’t mind.

The girl put a pot of water to boil and toke a medium sized cup out from the cupboard. She searched all over the place, and couldn’t manage to find even one bag of tea. She knew her father was not much of a tea drinker, but he had to have something? Right? Well, after some intense searching she found a paper bag that held the label “Wildflower tea” reading it was like a blessing. And she found it just in time as the pot began to boil. Quickly she dropped some of the tea in her cup and wrapping her hand in a kitchen glow she toke the pot from the fire and poured it in her cup.

So far, so good. She was no cook, making simple meals was the best she was good for, everything that needed the least bit of actual cooking. She limited herself to salad and mixing pre-cooked things, in other words…sandwiches and eating out was the way Amelia lived. So now, she just sliced some white bread, one tomato and some meat. Honestly, she couldn’t tell meet apart more than the clear fact that pig meat, was usually pinker than others…while steak was red at all times. Other meat, she would only see already cooked. Why would she need to learn cooking? She repeated it to her mother all the time, but…sometimes she regretted her decision.

Either way, she finished her cup of tea and the bead. And left, locking the door behind her with the spare key, she left it in her pouch. With a note to bring it back next time she is around. And with that thought, the girl left to her own home.

It toke her about a bell to get there, but once home she didn’t hesitate to properly comb her hair and remove her makeup. She didn’t want to put any on, as she was leaving to spend some time on the lakeshore. Spend some time with Fauna. The girl packed her backpack and changed in the clothing that were more common. She knew better than to wear good clothes there.

Half a bell more and she left the house. Taking a ravosal to the docks, she could briefly see the lines of her teachers, Clyde’s house as she got to the ferry. From this point on, it would be just a boring, eight, maybe even nine bell worth of travel. She seemed to be sure, and got comfortable in her seat. She began shuffling her cards, about to read her own fortune, until she heard. ”it’s you! You read a fortune to my sister!” instantly Amelia was awakened from her own daze as she turned around, and before she knew it, a young girl, no older than 15 was sitting in front of her. She had blond curls that gently fell down to her shoulders. Her dress was simple and floral, and she had a basket in her hands.

”er…hello?”’ she said, a bit confused as nobody had ever been so full of enthusiasm when meeting her. None the less, actually know her for being her, a fortune teller, not the ‘Cross girl’ as so many referred to her. ”as flattering it is, how exactly do you know me?””You read a fortune to my sister, she was no special and nobody liked her..well,not as a girl…but after you read her the fortune of getting married, boom! She had two boyfriends, and just recently, she was proposed to!” Amelia enjoyed to hear that her fortunes come true, as most of them were based on guesses rather than actual knowledge. But she assume this was just a little…coincidence.

”I see…and what exactly is your wish? aren't you a bit too young to be dreaming of men?” but the girl seemed to get angry at her comment ”I’m 15! Soon to turn 16! I’m not getting younger! I need to find myself a boyfriend, someone who would love me and has money!” the girl seemed to be amusing to Amelia, such wishes at such a young age. Were the woman of Ravok thought that? Amelia was nearly 21 and the least thing she wanted was to be bound to one man…”You do know I don’t do love spells, or anything of that sort, right? I just read fortunes…simple as that, If you are bound to marry at 30, I can’t read you anything else ” Amelia almost chuckled while shuffling her cards. ”nonsense! If my ugly sister with your help got a man, then I will for sure!” The girl seemed to be ignoring her explanation, but if she wanted a reading, she would give the girl a reading.

Sometimes, a girl just won't listen

”very well” she said, handing the cards to the girl that was in front of her ”shuffle, and may your fortune be in my hands” she said with a smirk. The girl seemed bout eager and intimidated by Amelia. Could it be that she was afraid to know, to hear? Could be, but she asked for it and now, Amelia watched as she awkwardly shuffled cards. It never failed to amuse her, to see people so confident in their own skills, yet barely holding them all in their hands.

After a few chimes of struggling, the girl handed the cards to Amelia. They didn’t have a table between them, or any usable surface really. Wishing to show the girl the cards she drew out, Amelia decided to use an old, old method of reading. Tia had thought it to her at an early age. Amelia hadn’t used it in quite some time, but since the girl was so eager, she thought it would work. Besides, Amelia could always think up things she doesn’t actually see. The average customer wouldn’t see a difference anyway.

Taking out two cards at the same time, one from the top, one from the bottom, Amelia analyzed them. These cards would show her the girl as her true identity. Amelia had to admit, the cards weren’t all that pleasant to see. It indicated the girl as an individual that is in need of social approval and comfort, if linked well with her desire for a wealthy man. However, Amelia was shocked to see it as a base trait of a girl that young. She could understand her, Amelia also desired comfort and wealth, approval of her father. But she wanted to earn it, this young girl, she wanted to have it been thrown at her. The next card didn’t make it much different, it was an eight of wand, a reversed for that matter. It made the girls description even worse, violent and jealous. Amelia disliked people like this, as she didn’t see any cause to back it up with something useful. ”can jealousy over time, grow into this?” and man, was Amelia happy to be the only child.

”well, I see you as quite the ambitious person, you want a good life and you want to gain it, no matter the cause…and you are clearly jealous of your sister and others that have a better life” The girl seemed to be pleased, until she heard about jealousy, it was a hard trait to be aware of, when it was pinned on yourself. She knew well, after all, it toke her some time to overgrow her own jealousy.

Amelia pulled out two other cards, and instantly turned them around. She was even more shocked. A good card, something that made her believe the girl in front of her was not that good. The wand of four, it showed a lot of good. But mainly for nature, what seemed to be quite clear, as she had a basket and bout of them were in a ferry to the lake. But the short, yet notable value of ending romance that the card held, was hard to leave out. Was she just dumped? It couldn’t be…the girl was too young. Sure, at the age of 15, closing in on her 16 year, she had already managed to share her first kiss, more than once and have a date here and there. The girl had already managed to earn a kiss from a Lazarin, but…relationship? That didn’t seem to make sense.

Still, she moved on, the card next to the wands, was an ace of cups. It was a card of love. The girls nearest path was full of everything. Harmony and love, it was nice to know, but did the girl deserve it with her attitude? It was hard to tell ”nature, harmony, and love…everything is fine…” the girl brightened with a smile ”I knew it! I am practicing to become a botanist, that’s why I’m heading to the shore! And you saw love, I knew Rick was wrong to leave me! He will come back, I knew it!””no, the old love…it’s gone, this love will be brand new”

Amelia continued, the 4 previous cards set in her lap to prevent them from falling. She pulled out the last 2 cards she needed, the clear future. And what she saw, made her yelp. The card of a shifter, the dual nature, the wild…a kelvic. She could see this card appear only in characterizing a mad man, or a kelvic. Could It be, the girl will fall in love with a kelvic? That made sense, but it was rather troubling. It had a lover cad next to it ”do you know, what a kelvic is?” the question came out of nowhere and the girl nodded before answering ”my mother, she received a gift from father, a kelvic puppy, a shadow dog I believe” Amelia saw a connection, bout could it be the kelvic she saw? ”he will help you, to gain love” she knew, that saying that a kelvic of all things, was her destined man, was not a smart thing.

The girl was happy, she paid Amelia and thanked her, before going back to her seat, at the half empty ferry. Amelia was sure to get some rest now, but no, she was disturbed once more, with more people wishing for a reading. Amelia couldn’t say no to a chance of making some money. ”maybe I should take the ferry more often”
