Falling.
She was falling. Why was she still falling? Where was the ground?
Vira could see it rushing up to meet her and yet never getting any closer, she could feel the wind surrounding her as she plummeted hell-ward and the smell of her own fear at the pending collision was nauseating. The woman screamed until her throat was raw and when she could scream no more...she screamed again. Overhead the scream of the Eagles could be heard and when the Chiet looked over her shoulder, she could see Heshvala diving towards her too, massive claws extended and her beak waiting to gobble her up.
Why should she be afraid of the eagles, though? Was Vala trying to catch her? It sure didn't appear that way!
"AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!" The woman shrieked when the ground again rushed to meet her, an expanse of shyke covered rock expanding in her vision until that moment of impact that never came. Each time, her eyes would shut and she would wait for that moment of collision that resulted in her being flattened like a flapjack on the stones of the mountain, to be picked at by the vultures. Her guts would be sprayed out explosively, leaving strings of entrails hanging like vines on the edge of the shyke-covered spot. Her very bones would simply dissentigrate at the moment of impact, her skull collapsing and her brain forced out in a pink and grey geyser of neural tissue through her nostrils.
But the hit never came and when she opened her single eye again, there was the ground rushing to meet her once more, luring the scream of terror from her lips for the umpteenth time. It was never going to end. She was always going to be falling and nobody was there to catch her. People said you couldn't really die in your dreams, but there was no way this was a dream, the sensations were far too real.
It was a nightmare that would never end.
