[Bronze Woods]The Training Session

Sei stood still. Something had moved, but the sound was to dull to locate. Sei knew it had to be Roderick. He was moving somewhere, but where. Sei looked around, careful not to let the rattle slip. Sei couldn't see anything close, so the human was probably farther away. Sei jumped from the branch, twigs snapping under his paws, but Sei didn't care. He needed to relocate. If Roderick had heard that, he would know where Sei was. Sei twisted his ears, trying to hear the dull sound of a hidden rattle. Sei knew it was pointless, but he still sniffed the air, trying to catch the rotten smell of human sweat, of the peculiar smell of the common human. No luck. This area was covered with so man flowers and plants. Picking one scent out from all of them would be pointless.

Sei walked around, looking all over, and fine-tuning his ears. Sei was tense, and kept his senses on high alert. Sei hunted around, checking every tree to be sure of no surprises. Sei rubbed his skin against every few trees he passed, as not to lose his path, making sure he'd be able to smell it over the flowers and plants. As Sei was a long ways down now, and still couldn't smell anything. Sei moved under a bush and curled up. It would do for now.

[Bronze Woods]The Training Session

Postby Roderick on July 23rd, 2013, 12:42 pm

Roderick thought he saw a touch of white in among the trees, but it vanished soon after he spotted it. He shifted carefully on the branch and balanced his bow in his lap. He made sure the rattle was still tucked inside his vest, then took hold of his bow, drew back the string - not a particularly easy thing to do in a tree - and fired over in the general direction the Kelvic seemed to be in. When he'd done that he looped it over his chest and started to climb down the tree as quickly as he could. He almost lost his balance once or twice, but avoided falling out and made it to the ground safely. The rattle crunched noisily as descended, but that was unavoidable, and hopefully the Kelvic would be too far away to hear it. Rod managed to get away from the tree without making too much more noise, as far as he could tell.

He kept the place where he'd seen the flash of white in his line of sight, but kept within the cover of the trees. When the tree he'd been in was just visible, he stopped and climbed a new one, his fingers scraping the bark as they searched for handholds. He found them more ably this time, and managed to climb up into the branches faster than he'd done before, though he still wasn't an expert. He made sure to avoid moving too suddenly, and it kept the rattle from making too much noise, though it ground one or twice. When he felt he was no longer visible he stopped and gripped the branch beneath him, panting.

Getting up hadn't exactly been hard physically; he was strong enough to do it. It was just the game of cat and mouse he was involved in getting his heart pumping. He doubted the Kelvic would hurt him, but sneaking around so no one knew where you were had always been fun for him.

Thunk!

There! Sei thought, as he leapt from the bush and ran toward that direction. Sei passed the arrow but continued to run. His paws were thudding against the ground but he didn't care. Sei jumped up the tree, finally able to smell the scent of sweat. When the smell was strong Sei stopped. The tree was empty. Damn! He must have moved after he launched the arrow! Sei thought. He leapt back down and scoured the area. Roderick was gone, and there was no way to track him. Sei tuned his ears. In the distance, the sound of heavy breathing filled the air. So much for Roderick's escape. He wasted so much energy he was out of breath. Sei quietly followed the sound, moving about carefully, avoding twigs and crunching leaves. Sei climbed a nearby tree and scanned the area. There he was, panting and out of breath. Sei shook his rattle and lunged from the tree, growling and bearing his teeth.

"Oh shi-"
Falling out of a tree wouldn't be the highlight of his day, especially if the Kelvic landed on top of him again. He threw his bow as far as he could so he wouldn't fall on it. He landed on one of the branches below, his chest slamming into it painfully. He grabbed hold of the branch and hoarsely gasped for air. He dangled from it for a moment before he managed to get his feet on the one below, and then climbed down to the one below that. He dropped down the last few feet and landed heavily, managing to lessen the impact a little by leaping into a hasty roll. He sprang up into a limping, hobbling run and quickly looked around for his bow. It had landed in a pile of leaves; he snatched it up and glanced back as he ran, seeing that Sei was gaining his balance on one of the branches.

Knowing he didn't have much time, Roderick slipped behind the nearest tree, and avoided tumbling down the sharp incline behind it by sheer luck. He skidded down it quickly and broke into a run, his breathing easier again.
He'll be able to smell down here he thought. The rattle crunched noisily, but at this distance the Kelvic wouldn't be able to hear it. He pulled an arrow free from his quiver. He quickly it over his clothes, hoping his scent would stick to it, then notched and fired it away to the right at a tree. He ran further along the path, rubbing another arrow against himself, pausing long enough to loose it at another tree further away then ran off to the left, back towards the clearing, hoping the tiger would start following the false trail. On the way there he repeated what he'd done to a third arrow, shooting it off some distance to the right. His cloak had started to snag every few feet, so he undid the clasp and threw the garment as far as he could. He pushed his head between bow and string, followed by one arm, so his bow rested over his chest. With his cloak gone all he had left was his bow and arrows, his dagger and the clothes on his back.

He doubted Sei would be put off for long by the scattered scents, and made even faster for the clearing.

OOCSorry, he's in the tree next to Roderick.

Shit! Sei thought. Either Roderick had heard him, or seen him. Sei had been distracted when Roderick threw the bow, and hadn't seen where he ran to. Sei sniffed up, jumping out of the tree. Somethings not right. There's multiple scent trails. Sei was confused. Sniffing up again, Sei sought out the stronger scents. There was two strong scents. Sei couldn't tell witch was stronger, so he headed to the west, choosing the closet one. Sei ran faster than he thought he could, avoding leaves and twigs. Sei clenched the rattle tightly, letting not one sound escape. Sei sniffed up, noticing there was a cloak near him. That's when it hit him. He's using arrows and clothing to throw me off!! Sei ran back east, and started to lose the first scent. When he picked up the scent again, he bagan to stalk the area, observing every twist and turn he made.

He was grateful when he reached the clearing with the flowers. It would make smelling him that much harder. He did his best to avoid trampling them and giving away where he was going. As he went he picked dozens of the things, til they were nearly spilling from his hands. When he'd cleared them, he scattered petals all about him as he retreated from the Kelvic.

He rubbed five of his arrows on his clothes and, heading left down into the woods, threw them away to the right, so that there were two different paths to follow. Using his bow would have made them go further, but Sei might have heard him doing it. He just had to hope that with the petals around the place and his own smell added to the scents of the wood, Sei would become confused.

He pulled himself up into the nearest tree as quickly as he could, feet and hands scrabbling on the bark in his haste. He was wheezing, and gulped air down into his lungs.

OOCAfter this Sei can pay for your arrows. It is a sparing session. ;)

Sei was back to where the scent had started, and was currently tracking the next. Sei picked up the pace, realizing the scent was getting lighter. When Sei had reached the area, he quickly scoured it, making sure there was no traces. Sei jumped onto a near by tree. Nothing in the area was out of the ordinary. Sei leapt back down, causing a loud thud. Sei sprinted back. This was going to be difficult, and after this, he was definitely going to be hungry. Sei stepped out and noticed where he was. The overpowering smell of flowers and plants rushed his senses. Sei's bag was nearby. Sei tried hard to sort out the smells, eventually getting a tiny wiff of his bag. Sei sniffed around, and followed the scent until he found his bag. Sei rubbed roughly against the bag, making his scent stronger. Sei hid the bag in a bush and sprinted off. Sei had smelled something else while he was locating his bag. The human was nearby. Sei scoured the area finding nothing on the ground and moved on.

[Bronze Woods]The Training Session

Postby Roderick on July 23rd, 2013, 8:04 pm

OOCSei will probably be able to find most of them by tracking down the scent on them, but thanks, I appreciate that

The Kelvic had done a good job following him so far; Roderick was impressed with the tiger's senses, and was glad they were just training with one another. If they'd been trying to kill one another Roderick would have died as soon as they'd met.
Convinced his things were secured properly, he tried to plan his next move; if he went back onto the ground Sei would be able to pick up his scent, but staying in the trees hadn't helped him before, and wouldn't now. He had to hope the Kelvic would be confused by his separate trails and the petals scattered everywhere. If it bought him even five minutes, he might be able to sneak past through the trees and back to the field. He'd have to make it there first before he could decide what to do.

He climbed to a higher branch, standing on it and hugging the trunk, forcing himself to breath softly.

Sei hung around the area a bit longer. Sei suddenly stopped short. After a few moments Sei sprinted back to the starting area, following the heavy scent of plant's and flowers until he was back. Checking around, and tuning his ears, Sei growled, bearing his teeth. Backing agaist the tree Roderick was in he bumped into it with his back, as everything grew quiet. Sei suddenly turned toward the tree and began to jump up it, growling as he went farther up. Sei gripped the tree with his claws and jumped farther up until Roderick was in veiw. Even though I'm trapped up here as well, it'll be harder from him to move than it is for me. Sei thought happily. Sei clenched Roderick's branch, stepping onto it with a toothy grin. Sei narrowed his catlike eyes, and moved closer.

[Bronze Woods]The Training Session

Postby Roderick on July 23rd, 2013, 9:36 pm

The Kelvic appeared out of nowhere, apparently as surprised by the development as Roderick. He began clawing his way angrily up the tree. When the tiger drew into his view, Roderick had to calm his heart beat. He turned as best as he could to face Sei, leaning back against the trunk. As the Kelvic got closer, he opened his mouth and seemed to smirk; "You lose" it said, as he came within arms reach.
What Rod did next probably wasn't the best thing he could have done, but god's blood, he was staring down the throat of a bloody tiger.
"Sorry 'bout this. Nothin' personal."
Rod kicked at the Kelvic's face.
