A few questions on Kelvics.

Postby Aryui Akeena on July 25th, 2013, 2:26 am

So, on the Wiki it says Kelvic's mature at one year of age, but I'm pretty sure someone else said it depends on the animal. Which is true?

Are they humans with animal forms or animals with human forms?

If a Kelvic was a very smart animal, say, a parrot or a dolphin, would they be smarter than normal Kelvic's? And would a bird Kelvic be lighter than a normal human in their human form, and a whale be better at holding their breath/have bigger lungs?

Can you be any type of mammal/bird ever? Even a dodo?

If you were like a Rook, a bird that can live up to 100 years, would you require Special Permissions to play as it?

A few questions on Kelvics.

Postby Khida on July 25th, 2013, 9:18 am

I can answer some of these:

1.) From the wiki, under 'aging and longevity': "Kelvics... are sexually mature in the length of time it takes their animal form to mature." So for say a housecat, about eight months. For a wolf, a couple of years. And so on.

2.) Well, most technically, they're Kelvics. But in essence, play the character more like an animal who happens to have human form.

3.) On intelligence: to my understanding, not really. Kelvic intelligence has more to do with whether they've bonded, when they bonded, how much life experience they've had, and personal variation. On physiology: not really much carries over physically from animal to human, except perhaps a few cosmetic traits. So no, whale Kelvics probably don't have any larger lungs than the next human of similar build.

4.) I don't think so. I think you have to keep to pretty much current times. But this's the question I'm least able to answer.

5.) No. You have to have special permission for some special creatures like glassbeaks, dire Kelvics, etc. but not for most RL animals. If you're going for something really obscure, possibly, but a rook (or raven, I have one of those myself) doesn't need special permission.

A few questions on Kelvics.

Postby Verilian on July 25th, 2013, 3:37 pm

Khida, your answers were great, but I wanted to clarify a bit more.

1. The reason it says 1 year is because that is just an average, but as she said, if you actually read the lore itself and not just the little box, you will see that they mature at the same rate their animal form would mature.

2. Actually, kelvics usually have the personality of their animal form. So if you were an animal that is generally smarter, you probably would be smarter.. but his is smart in an animal sense, not a human sense. A dolphin kelvic is probably a better learner than an animal that is known to be terrible at learning, but the difference really wouldn't be very noticeable when it came to learning human skills. And the only things that transfer from animal form are the occasional cosmetic thing, such as eye color, maybe elongated canines, or unusual hair color, and enhanced senses such as eyesight, hearing, smell, and taste. Beyond that, nothing transfers usually.

4. You can be any mammal/bird that is alive today. For extinct ones, I would ask for help desk approval, in case they do not exist in Mizahar.

5. What Khida said.

Thank you! :D Also, are there any ways to reply besides quoting the whole thing?

Are you posting from something other than a computer? There should be a box at the bottom that lets you post a reply without quoting. And there is a "post reply" button. Or, if all else fails and you absolutely must reply by quoting, all you have to do is simply delete the quoted text from your post.
