A village cut off from the rest of Mizahar by the Valterrian, slowly reestablishing contact with the outside world.
Passengers are ferried to and from ships anchored beyond the rocky shoals and other hazards within the Denvali harbor, and they are brought to the passenger quay, where young children gather to ooh and aah over visitors to their still relatively small and remote settlement. It is a simple stone quay that leads directly to the Stranger's Welcome, an inn with good food, drink, music, and the like.
While the quay itself is unimpressive, nary a barge drops by at the quay that adults, children, and barking dogs will greet a newcomer, always welcoming and eager to please with directions or other information. Men in particular should be wary, as the Denvali are keen to keep their population from degenerating into inbreeding, which requires fresh ... meat.
At some point in recent history, a juvenile Kelvic gull began hanging around the passenger docks. He can be raucous or sweet depending on what he wants from passers-by, usually food, but sometimes information. He's wily for his age, which appears to be somewhere between big boy and young man when he sheds his feathers. Young Jolan is a font of information for a price, except on the odd occasion when he's feeling mysterious or altruistic.
What is less known is that Jolan is the bastard brother of Denval's own captain. Her father, Larus, fathered Jolan on a Kelvic in Wind Reach. Long story short, raptors and huge freaking raptors see gulls as food, so the lad flew east to give his tailfeathers a chance to grow back out.
