Hi, Sylirans. I'm here regarding about my behavior and to apologize for it.

I realized that I've been acting like a Knight Templar

Knight Templar wrote:Sometimes, the Forces of Light and Goodness get too hardcore. In a deadly combination of Well-Intentioned Extremist, The Fundamentalist and, generally speaking, not so different, they get blinded by themselves and their ideals, and this extreme becomes tyrannical sociopathy.

Analyzing what I did and how I acted. I came to a conclusion that it was because not long after I became an ST, two PCs tried to do criminal actions in Syliras for an extended amount of time and hoped to get away scot-free, then they took it out on me OOC-ly. It rubbed off on my behavior.

I became extreme in my need to keep Syliras operating as I think the lore states it to be, a very safe city watched by the Knights where even all crimes have repercussions. I took it too far, I'm truly sorry for that.

To all players who feel pressured because of my actions, I'm sorry.

I will conduct myself better in the future, but this doesn't mean that law will not be upheld in Syliras. Homicide, drug-dealing, poisoning the public are obviously severe crimes, both in Syliras and IRL so they will have consequences if you are found out.

Stay safe and keep being awesome, guys and gals.

[Syliras' OOC Thread] The Calm within the Storm

Extreme? I see ooc pressure at work here. I'm happy with the way that things were working. Players know the rules in Syrilas - if you want to be a criminal then there are plenty of cities where you can do just that.

I'm saddened that you've felt the need to apologise, but let's hope that you find a new balance in keeping the law upheld.

Ladies and Gentlemen! Boys and Girls! Knights, Thieves, Barmaids, Labourers and everything in between!

Season end is quickly approaching, have you got everything you need done? Have you done your job threads for your wages? Can you pay the bills or will you be out on your ear? Have you defeated the villain and got the girl (or guy)? Run a mock or helped the knights? Or have you just been chilling and floating with the tide?

Either way, with only seventeen days left until the season change, we're quickly approaching the end of the balmy summer season of Mizahar. Soon will be turning into the harvesting and red leaf season of Fall. So get your plots started and your place holders down if you still have those little bits you wish to do.

Keep your swords sharp and shields up!

[Syliras' OOC Thread] The Calm within the Storm

Postby Orion Michaels on August 15th, 2013, 2:40 pm

Radiant, thanks for what you do. I totally respect getting rid of people who think they can just do whatever they want and have no issues because of it. It's Syliras. There are a million bajillion knights. Unless you're the king of thieves, if you consistently break the law

I'll go ahead and let everyone know that I voiced my concerns about the use of OOC threats to grey names. It came across as a death threat. It bothered me because that wasn't IC reaction for IC actions. But I totally understand the position that our STs get forced into.

There's something about going against the lore that make people think they are being unique. People see Syliras and that it's a bastion of hope and justice (or an uptight place with self righteous people, depending on who you ask :D) and they want to create dissonance in our harmony. If it goes unchecked, we get to places where Radiant has to deal with the people they mentioned in their post.

So here's the question I pose to you all. How did it get to that point?

I'd say anyone who lets those things slide ICly are a little guilty. There are always going to be people who want to cause problems. If they aren't breaking any OOC rules in doing it though, then it just creates an opportunity for story, which I think is the reason I'm here. :D In my opinion, we've gotta make it a team effort here. It's not the mods jobs alone to make Syliras, well, Syliras. We have to play it as it's supposed to be played, and we really ought to hold other players accountable, too. I'm gonna be reading the lore for Syliras and the Knights again, and I might suggest that you all do the same. We are many and the STs are few, so they can't catch everything, and if they do, they are gonna thread themselves really thin and burn out on modding. It's totally a team effort here. I love Syliras and want it to have the lore intended theme. :)

Anyways, I'll get off my soapbox now. lol. Thanks guys.

Well, I've not been here for a while, but the trouble as I see it is that we mostly only know of what other players are doing ooc. Most of the problems that I've seen occurring are in closed threads, so I'm not quite sure how you intend to hold those players accountable?

people are writing with these characters when they're doing these actions. not all of these errors are happening in solos.

I didn't say that they were happening in solo's but it would be my impression that generally those actions are happening in threads comprised of players who are attempting these actions, often using npc's as the victims.

Of course I agree that should 'we' be in a thread where such a thing is happening then we should react appropriately - and re-reading the lore is an excellent suggestion as perhaps many people aren't RPing their characters well enough. Still though I suspect as I said before most of the 'issues' are happening out of sight.

I dont disagree with that. :) acco said that it was because of ic actions turning ooc. Nothing we can do there.

[Syliras' OOC Thread] The Calm within the Storm

Postby Accolade on August 15th, 2013, 4:14 pm

First off thanks Fallon dear, it is about that time, and I've given out plenty of jobs to people so get those jobs threads up if you want pay. Secondly Thanks Radiant for being a stand up ST, and third I think we have more than one conversation going on here.

But just to say this again so that people aren't confused, you CAN make a villain in Syliras. But you have to know your city and know the lore. There is a big misconception about Sunberth, and people say they are going there to make a bad ass villain to rule the world and all. But the thing is, in Sunberth EVERYONE is a villain. So by doing crimes a PC isn't breaking the law because there are none. However if a mage came to the city and started tossing around magic...then there's a problem.

So you have to know your city, if you want to come to Syliras and commit crimes, that's fine, but if you're caught you're in trouble. For example...if you are in the middle of the market using earth Reimancy against someone, people WILL see you. The market is a crowded place. If you go into the Rearing Stallion, the most popular tavern in the city and kill someone. people will see, and the Knights will hunt you. If you have a fight on the roof of the city, and you're not a squire sparing on the training ground, guess what? Someone will notice.

And another thing, please stop the ST hate, We are not here to ruin your day and destroy your super awesome character. It's call story development. We are writers and we are here to write together. And I don't understand why people hate consequences. It helps to build story. If you think about books, movies, comics, the villain there, many of them have been to prison, or made to slave a mine, or even forced to live in the forest.

They are not perfect and the more known they are, the more people want to catch them. The only world I have ever seen where a villain has never been caught, has perfect hair and all godly skills that can't be bested is in anime and this is NOT an anime rpg.
