Jossa Skyglow Appearance Race: Vantha Gender: Male Age: 22 Birthday: 24 Spring, 491 Birthplace: Avanthal Appearance: Much like many Vantha, Jossa is lithe and small-boned. He stands at 5'6" and weighs 125 lbs. His hair is coarse and black with very slight greenish undertones that are easy to notice in direct sunlight, although his hair is short for a Vantha. His eyes do change color, but they tend toward greens and purples more than anything else and don't seem to have any set patterns or meanings. His skin, while a little more pale than most Vantha, has a nice olive tone to it. Despite his athletic physique, Jossa is not a warrior and could not be mistaken for one because of his clumsiness and discomfort around long, sharp, pointy things. Like other Vantha, Jossa is Marked by Morwen; this Mark appears as a single snowflake on the inside of his right forearm. Character Concept Like the others in Skyglow, Jossa is an artist, though he is still only mediocre. The art he creates is abstract, unresolved and emotionally raw. He is especially fond of paints and he uses color as his primary means of expression. Though he considers himself an artist by trade, he spends more of his time deep in thought or daydreams; he holds silent conversations with various figures and deities more or less constantly. This makes him somewhat distracted, which is something of a joke to his more composed and showy Vantha peers. One thing that Jossa craves above all is a sense of community. He often feels like something of an outsider to the rest of his culture because he tends more toward quiet contemplation and solitude than boastful storytelling and dramatics. While he doesn't feel that he is friendless, he doesn't quite feel that he belongs, subtle though that feeling may be. This is not to say that he's not a friendly or talkative; he can be quite personable and outgoing in his interactions and smiles more often than not. He is just a quieter person on average that seeks a bit more solitude than his peers. He devotes a lot of his musings to the nature of friendship, passion, relationships, love and other related ideas. This influences his art heavily, though no one would ever know it. Often, Jossa thinks about Cheva, the goddess of love, passion and relationships; he has devoted more than one piece of art to trying to depict her. She and Morwen are the deities that he devotes himself to, though he would like to learn more about the other deities of the world. Because of his unrealized yearnings and a budding curiosity about what lies outside of his snowbound life, he dreams about leaving Avanthal and heading south. What he would do there, though, is anyone's guess. Character History Jossa was born a healthy, happy child; he grew up with his cousins in his father's family's Arvinta. His childhood was normal and uneventful. His mother and father were both artists of about average talent, and they spent a lot of time making art; Jossa often tagged along to watch. He was also allowed to watch others in the Hold as they used their skills. By watching master painters and sculptors do what could only be magic, he began learning how to create beautiful works of art. As a teenager, Jossa was a quiet sort. He showed an interest in painting, but didn't devote enough time to it to become truly good because he was always daydreaming or deep in thought. As other Vantha were telling stories to each other and making connections, he would make up stories and think about things. By the time he was 20, he was being pressured to marry by his family. Various women in his Hold and in other Holds made eyes at him periodically, but he didn't notice or care all that much. That's not to say that he didn't think that they were pretty; he did often notice when a person was attractive. He just did not feel as if he had any connection to them, and he would like to be friends with a woman (or a man) before they became anything else. At 22, he was still unmarried, but at peace with his single state. He periodically would paint a portrait of the goddess Cheva as a means of honoring her in the hopes that he would learn to connect with the people around him. He has also harbored a secret fantasy for almost as long as he can remember; every time an outsider comes to visit Avanthal, he thinks about the lands that he has never seen. He has thought about leaving Avanthal if he doesn't find a sense of belonging. He still thinks about it now.
