17th Summer 513AV

Enria rose early this morning. She didn’t want to arrive late at the Infirmary where she was suppose to shadow a medic and learn more about medicine. Enria had always wanted to learn a bit about medicine in case it ever came of use; and with her clumsiness it was bound to come into handy. Enria didn’t know who she was supposed to report to when she arrived; she was only told the time of which to arrive at the place.

After getting dressed and having a bite to eat at the canteen, Enria went to the Tisuma Baths. There was much less people today and Enria wasn’t sure why; though it was early that shouldn’t excuse why there were only a handful, including herself, there; when usually it is quite busy. Perhaps it was going to be a slow start to a busy day. Enria felt most days were like that but she enjoyed them nonetheless. It allowed her to enjoy the little things like getting dressed, taking time to eat her breakfast as well as having a nice relaxing bath; that was how Enria liked to start most days, if she wasn’t running late, and today wasn’t any different. She scrubbed herself clean, fresh start for a new day. Enria made an extra effort to clean herself because she’d be working in the Infirmary; she didn’t want to transfer any dirt to the patients and risk them getting even worse.

Letting the water wash over her once more, she slinked out of the bath and went to collect her clean belongings. She dried herself and slipped back into her clothes before combing through her wet hair; she dried it and plaited it so it would be out of the way. She didn’t want her hair flapping around her face in case it got in the way. She decided it was time to walk to the Infirmary and made her way to it at a leisurely pace.

Enria knew the route to the Infirmary like the back of her hand, so as she walked up to the building she let her mind wonder. She wondered about what she would have to do today. Would she be running errands or simply observing; would she be working just one day or would she be allowed to shadow again another time? Before she even realised it, she had found that she was standing at the entrance to the Infirmary.

The waiting area was warm and inviting with a few people waiting patiently on the bench. Enria looked around, unsure of what to do. Should she try to find someone, to let them know she was here? Or should she wait for someone to come find her? She looked around in an attempt to try and find someone but could not spot anyone. She walked over to the bench which spread across a wall and sat at the edge. Enria kept an eye out for someone so that she could start her day’s work.

After what felt like a few moments, her eyes drifted over to the coffee table that sat parallel to the bench which she sat on. She gazed at the beautiful plants, which Enria imagined would smell just as sweet as they looked. The plants, Enria thought to herself, were there to add some nice decoration to the place and help create a warm atmosphere. Spread sporadically on the table were some reading material which Enria was tempted to pick up and browse at but how would that look? Her first day here and they catch her slacking off by reading. She could read any day. Today she was here to learn.

The curtain that stood as a separation from the waiting area to the main Infirmary rustled. A figure popped out from behind the curtain. She was a tall and slender woman with long silvery blonde hair that flowed behind her. Enria walked up to her and offered her a smile polite smile.

“I’m Enria, I’m suppose to be shadowing someone today.” She offered in common, as she was unsure whether the lady before her would understand Nari.

Tossing her towel on the table, Iosha glared at the boy and lectured,
“Nevi, I know you are young and trying to impress the yasi girls your age, but honestly, you are as skinny as a bean pole! Maybe you should pick your opponent more wisely next time before you just walk over to the largest boy and punch him in the nose,” The Inarta boy had two black eyes, bruises all over his torso, and a split lip to top off his list of injuries. Iosha looked at the mangled boy and shook her head in disgust at achievement, and the boy said with a smile, “You don't understand since you are a outs...” Iosha crossed her arms, gave him a flat look, and he quickly changed the wording, “Since you are a grown up, but I am the smallest boy in the Yasi quarter, at the moment, so I need to show those tall lumber petch...” Iosha raised an eyebrow and said sharply, “Watch your tongue, yasi, or I will have to introduce your mouth to my bar of soap.” The Yasi eyes went wide, and he quickly changed his tune, “See I am the smallest boy in the Yasi quarter, so I need to show everyone that I am not pushover. I picked a fight with largest boy, and I won! You understand where I am coming from right?” Iosha rolled her eyes and wondered if all Inarta males' brains were replaced by feathers. She put her head in her hand and tried to reason with him without having to look at him, “Listen Nevi, I know you think that you need to prove yourself to the world by cracking your head open to impress the girls or getting your face bashed in to prove you are the “MAN” of the playground. However, you need to understand that once you start a fight and win.” Iosha looked up, stared at him in the eyes, and said in a annoyed voice, “Now you will have to defend your new title against the next feather brained Yasi trying to claim it for themselves. Nevi do you know that once you win a fight, you will be challenged by anyone wanting to claim your title as their own. In the end, the only person you are hurting in the end is me!”

Nevi just stared at her in utter confusion and said softly, “Why am I hurting you since I am the one getting my butt kicked in the fights?” Iosha looked at him wanting to shake him till he found some common sense, but she said quietly trying to keep her cool, “Because I am the one who constantly has to treat you! I want to come in one week to work and not see you beaten, bruised, cut, or limping into my Infirmary. It is frustrating and sometimes a girl needs a change in scenery!” The boy just gave her a blank stare and said with a hint of amusement in his voice,“You would miss me if I wasn't here at least once a week.” Iosha threw up her hands in total frustration, started to mutter to herself in Kontinese as she turned away from the little red haired manic, and stalked away from his bed. As she left his bed, Miquel gave her a shyke grin and said with a smirk, “Hey watch your mouth, Iosha. There are kids around!” Iosha whirled around on him and cursed in kontinese, “Oh shut the petch up! You son of sand crab!” Miquel had no clue what the konti said, but her language was a pleasant sounding language, so even the most vulgar words could sound like a compliment. The middle age healer just laughed at her anger and said with smirk, “Oh I forgot to tell you that we have a Chiet interested in medicine, and it is your turn show her the ropes. Aidara's orders.” The konti was about to protest, but when she heard it was Aidara's orders than she fell in line quickly. Iosha looked around and saw a beautiful red head woman by the table with the flowers and said with a nod, “Nevi is mine, Miquel. I figure he will be my test subject for my teaching session.”

Miquel didn't protest her request, and he walked away to another patient. Iosha walked to the edge of the curtain, and she was approached by the Chiet. The woman introduced her name as Enria, and Iosha gave the woman a welcoming grin and said softly, “Welcome to the Infirmary, Enria. My name is Iosha Moonchaser, and I will doctor you will be shadowing today. Come with me.” Iosha nodded to her and lead her to one of the wash basins and said, “Why don't you wash your hands, and we will get started with simple first aid. I have the perfect patient to demonstrate on too.” The konti waited till the woman was done before she asked in a soft voice, “Enria why are you interested in becoming a healer?” It was a simple question, but it a good way to look into the window of the woman's ambitions and dreams. She figured the Chiet had many dreams since she was Inarta, but also, she wanted to see if the woman really wanted to learn or just test the waters. Healing was a passion with the Konti, but it was emotionally, physically, and spiritually tasking on her too.

The woman turned to her and offered her a warm greeting and introduced herself as Iosha Moonchaser. Enria learnt that she would be shadowing Iosha around the Infirmary; and suddenly felt a wave of relief washing over her, she was thankful that she hadn’t given into the temptation of reading. But had patiently waited and introduced herself; did that show how eager she was to learn? Enria hoped so. She wanted Iosha to know that she was committed to learning whatever Iosha offered to teach her.

Iosha led her to a small wash basin and instructed she wash her hands. Enria obliged and washed her hands thoroughly. She knew it was protocol to stop the risk of transferring any infection to the patients. She also learnt that they would be starting off with the basics first, first aid to be precise. Enria was excited, rather than disheartened, at having to start off small and simple. It was better to start from the bottom and work your way to the top, Enria thought. Besides it would have been absurd to lump her with something more complicated than tending to someone’s cuts and bruises, especially when Enria knew little to nothing about medicine.

“Enria why are you interested in becoming a healer?” She asked, dispersing Enria’s thoughts momentarily.

It was a good question, why was Enria fascinated in learning medicine? She thought back to when she had gone out walking one day and had noticed a sparrow lying on the ground. Immediately thinking the worse, that it had died, Enria had tentatively approached it. It was stunned but alive; although its wing was badly hurt. She feared trying to nurse the creature back to health herself because she had no idea what to do. She didn’t want to injure it further by trying to repair the damaged wing herself.

“One day I saw this tiny sparrow lying on the ground, it had injured its wing; I felt as helpless as the bird because I didn’t know what to do. I don’t want to feel helpless like that again; I want to be able to help people, help them like I couldn’t do for that poor little bird.” Enria admitted, her voice drifting off into silence.

Enria remembered picking up the bird and holding it with both hands, while making a hasty retreat back into town where she could try to find help for the little bird. She had eventually found the help of an Avora, who she never caught the name of, and he tended to the bird’s wounds. She left the bird in his care and had eventually learnt that it had been nursed back to full help. Enria felt guilty at having left it but it was the right decision to make. Though a part of her wished she could have helped more. She wanted to help more and, for her, medicine seemed the logical answer to it; she could help others by tending to their wounds.

“All I want to do is help.” Enria added after a brief pause; the sentence summing up all her thoughts.

She looked at Iosha, her violet eyes twinkling back at her own. She expected her to laugh or accuse her that it wasn’t a valid reason in wanting to learn medicine. But for Enria, it was the truth. Enria cast her eyes down to look at the floor, ashamed at what she had just confided in the woman. Will she think any less of me or will she just send me away? Enria thought.

Iosha listened to Enria's story about finding the injured sparrow on the ground and feeling helpless that she wasn't able nurse it back to full health. It was a touching story, and it told the konti that the woman had the compassion to be a healer, but did she have the stomach to be one too. Iosha knew the strength, constitution, and will power will come in time, so she decided to give the Inarta a chance. The last statement showed the girl was eager to learn, so Iosha reached out and lifted her chin, so she could see her eyes and said plainly with a smile,
“First of all, Enria. You need to stand by your own convictions regardless of what other people feel about you or your opinion. Since You are the only one, you will have to face when you look into a mirror.” The Konti crossed her arms and agreed with her statement,”We all want to help, Enria, but it takes a lot of work and sacrifice to be a healer. If you are serious about medicine, I want you to talk to Aidara, so you can work in the Infirmary as a medical assistant than maybe she will put in good word for you with the Valintar. Also since you don't have a gnosis mark of Rak'keli, you will need to rely on purely on medical knowledge alone, so I suggest you spend time in the Enclave studying anatomy, physiology, herbalism, and psychology.”

Iosha knew it might be a lot to swallow for someone just starting out, but if she is serious than she will need to dedicate a large portion of her life to it, so she could be recognized as a healer to the rest of the healing community. The konti placed a hand on her shoulder and said with a weary smile, “Trust me, Enria. All your self sacrifice will be worth it in the end, and maybe Rak'Keli will reward you for your efforts when it is all said and done. Now come with me.” Iosha needed to get supplies to treat Nevi's wounds, so she poised a query for her, assistant, “When you get injured and can't seek medical attention, how do you treat yourself?” The konti needed to know the extent of her medical knowledge. In the konti's mind, their wasn't a right or wrong answer since she probably just worked up the courage today to shadow someone in the Infirmary. When they made it to the supply cabinet, Iosha opened the door and asked without looking at her, “Can you handle blood, puss, excrement, and puke?”

Iosha needed to know the extent of her constitution to be able to handle everything thrown at her. She grabbed a large roll of cloth, a bottle of rubbing alcohol, and a needle and spoil of thread. She placed the equipment on a metal tray and handed them to Enria. When she finished gathering her equipment, she motion with her head to follow and asked softly, “I know you are interested in medicine, but do you have anything other passion in your life?” Iosha knew she was asking a lot of questions, but she wanted to try to get to know her potential student. Iosha led Enria to her first patient ever, and she could tell the boy watched her assistant like a wolf watching a injured deer in the forest. The konti could tell the boy the overall hygiene of the yasi was pretty terrible at the moment. Nevi looked at Iosha and asked to her, “Can't you just Pray-It-Ip and BAM! I am out of here!” Iosha let out a sinister laugh and said with a impish grin on her face, “Not to today Nevi, we are going to do this the good old fashion way...” The boy's golden eyes widen as he watched the konti with her evil grin on her face. The boy turned to Enria and said with a pout, “I am not going to enjoy the...old...fashion way aren't I?” Iosha turned to Enria and told her, “Why don't you get me some hot water and about ten clean wash cloths. We might need to give the boy a good scrub down before we start treating his wounds.”

Enria felt a finger tuck under her chin and lift her face to meet the Konti’s violet eyes and she listened to her words of wisdom; and she was right, if Enria didn’t believe herself then who else would? Iosha suggested that if Enria was committed to working as a healer then she would need to talk with Aidara and study at the Enclave. Enria nodded in agreement with Iosha, she knew that being a healer would take a lot of patience and learning; and today, Enria had decided would see if she was really dedicated to learning the craft.

Iosha drowsily smiled at her before placing a hand on her shoulder. She gave Enria food for thought; if she did decide to dedicate her life to healing then perhaps she would be recognised for it. Though that’s not why Enria wanted to learn medicine but it would be nice to recognised, like a Yasi being appraised by their mentor. She smiled and followed the Konti to the supply closet before the woman addressed her again. “When you get injured and can’t seek medical attention, how do you treat yourself?” It was a good question. Enria had often got herself into scrapes and did not seek the attention of a healer. What she normally did was wash the wound in salt water and dress it in spare cloth she could grab until the bleeding stopped; once it had, she undressed it and let the air get to it.

“Uh, I try to bathe my wounds in salt water and dress the wound in cloth until it stops bleeding.” Enria said after a short pause; perhaps the Konti was putting her under a test? Enria just hoped she gave the right answer. “I then allowed some air to get to the wound.”

Iosha opened the door to the supply closet and placed cloth, a bottle of clear liquid, thread and a needle on a tray and handed it to her. While gathering the supplies, Iosha asked her if she could handle seeing blood, sick and other sights that may unnerve someone. Enria considered it for a moment and after a moment or two, thought she’d be alright; after all, she managed to look after herself.

“I can handle it.” Enria said and silently prayed that she would be.
Iosha motioned Enria to follow her and asked in a soft voice, “I know you are interested in medicine, but do you have any other passion in your life?” Enria smiled, it was nice that she was trying to get to know her. Enria cleared her throat and turned to her and said, “I mostly like to draw; especially birds.”

Enria wondered if she should try to get to know Iosha; would it cross some sort of line? But before she could ask what interested Iosha when she wasn’t working at the Infirmary, she was led to a bed with a young boy sitting on it. It looked like he had been in a scrap, most likely with other Yasi boys. Enria rolled her eyes; it was the same when she was at the Yasiry. The boy gave her a curious look as if he were ready to chew her up and spit her out. But Enria ignored it and gave the boy a small polite smile.

“Can't you just Pray-It-Up and BAM! I am out of here!” The boy said to Iosha, completing ignoring Enria. Enria looked at Iosha and wondered what she would do; but before she could give it much contemplation Iosha let a small laugh which left a cunning grin on her face.

“Not to today Nevi, we are going to do this the good old fashion way...” Enria wasn’t sure if this was for her benefit but she appreciated it nonetheless. However, Nevi, the name she assumed belonged to the boy, looked shocked; his eyes widening in fear. He turned to Enria to look for support or comfort.

“I am not going to enjoy the...old...fashion way aren't I?” He whimpered.

“You’re in safe hands, Nevi.” Enria flashed the boy a small sympathetic smile. She had tried to offer reassurance but she never had a way with words, so she was unsure whether she actually soothed the boy of his worries.
She was then instructed to fetch some hot water and clean cloths, presumably to wash Nevi, as Iosha had mentioned before she left the two to fetch she things she was told to get. But Enria was unfamiliar with the layout of the Infirmary so had to ask someone where she could gather what she needed. After being directed, Enria had successfully managed to collect hot water and cloths. She tried to race back as fast as possible without spilling the water; she didn’t want to keep Iosha waiting too long, in case that might put Enria in Iosha’s bad books.

Enria had to admit, she felt eager to watch and learm how Iosha would tend to Nevi’s wounds. But something had peeked her interest about the two of them, clearly they’ve met before because of what the boy had said, but it was what he said that interested Enria. What did he mean by ‘Pray-It-Up’? And what was the old-fashioned method that Iosha was going to demonstrate to Enria?

Enria passed by the waiting area where she had waited earlier and smiled; the people who were waiting with her had all gone but there were more people, waiting. It’s funny how much we depend on others, and yet we don’t even seem to realise it. She ducked through the curtain and approached Iosha and Nevi. As she neared them, she offered them a small smile.

“I got everything you asked for.” Enria said, whilst handing Iosha the water and cloths.

Nevi watched the young woman leave and asked the Konti, “Is it me or do the young woman look nervous, Iosha?” Iosha crossed her arms and stared at the boy,
“Yasi,You will call me, Avora. Now stay still, Nevi. I need to stitch up your for head.” The konti knew his minor wounds can wait, but the small gash on his forehead was different matter altogether. The konti knew the head wound wouldn't heal correctly if she didn't stitch it up, so she picked up the string and curved needle in her hand. She said a quick prayer to Rak' Keli to clean her equipment. The prayer was responded to promptly, and the needle and thread started to glow brightly in her hands. When the light dissipated, the konti's hands were completely cleaned along with needle and thread. Iosha took off a foot of thread, put one thread through the eye of the needle, brought it down six inches, and tied it off at the end of the to ends. Iosha walked over to the boy and placed a hand under his jaw to hold his head in place. The boys eyes widened when Iosha brought the needle to his forehead and said bluntly, “If you move a inch, you will definitely have a nasty scar, and I will poke you in the skull, so please don't move regardless on how much it hurts.” Iosha brought the tip of the needle to the top of the wound and slowly pierced the skin. When the needle went through the tip skin, she lined up the top flap with the bottom half and brought the needle up through the bottom skin. Once the needle was completely through both, she gently pulled the sting down till the knot was resting on the skin. She repeated the stitches slowly, so the stitches were close to reduce scarring. When she got end of the gash, Enria walked up to her holding the tray off supplies in hand. As she tied the other end, she said without turning around, “Thank you for grabbing the supplies, Enria.”

Iosha laid her webbed on forehead of the boy and said a prayer to her goddess, Rak' Keli in kontinese , “My beloved Goddess. Please cleanse this wound of any impurities, so the boy can live a normal life without suffering.” When she opened her eyes, the whole head of Nevi was cleaned, and the end wound's healing time was greatly decreased. Iosha put the bloody needle on the tray and said to Enria, “When you are treating cuts, burns, or anything. You need to be aware that your greatest enemy is infection.” Iosha took a deep breath and continued, “You can tell someone as a infection with fever and deep red inflammation around the wound. Another way a person can notice if the wound starts to turn a yellowish green and smells rotten.” Iosha picked up a clean roll of gauze and started to wrap it around his head and over his wound. When she was finished bandaging the boys head, Iosha picked up the rag and dipped in the water pail. Walking over to the boy, she placed the cloth in the warm water and started to dab the water over wounds to clean them. The konti looked at Enria and said softly, “Cleaning the wound is important because it takes away the grime and the dirt in and around the wound. Also cleaning it is a good way to ward off infection before it even starts. Now, I want you to start cleaning the many small wounds on his chest, arms, and shoulders.”

Enria watched as Konti place her hands on the boy’s forehead, closed her eyes, and said something strange, almost pray-like, in another language that Enria hadn’t heard before; perhaps it was her native tongue? Once Iosha had opened her eyes and removed her hands from the boy, Enria noticed that his head was completely clean. She’d never witnessed something like this before, and was in awe of her but tried to maintain a cool indifference in front of the Yasi so as not to appear a novice; though she had to admit that that was impressive and wondered if all healers possessed this ability. Maybe this was what the boy meant earlier when he had asked her to ‘Pray-It-Up’?

Iosha turned to Enria and placed the needle, which she had used to stitch Nevi’s head wound while Enria was gone, onto the tray she held with outstretched hands; she took the cloth from the tray and turned her attention back to Nevi, while telling Enria about the signs of infection and how cleaning is a good way to ward off infection. As Enria made a mental note of what signs to spot, she began to think of a girl she knew when she was in the Yasiry; by the sound of what Iosha had just told her, it would explain what Enria had witnessed all those years before. The girl had a cut on her arm and after a few days it had turned yellow and had smelt, the smell was enough to make Enria shudder; she fought the urge of to shudder at the mere memory of the smell. Instead Enria turned to the Konti and asked, “What happens if it’s already infected? How do you treat it then?” She couldn’t seem to recall exactly what happened to the girl and her infected arm afterwards, as no other memories of her offered to float up to the surface and present themselves.

She watched carefully as Iosha bandaged Nevi’s head, paying extra care to how it was done in case she needed it for future reference. Once she’d finished, Iosha turned and grabbed more cloth, this time to dip in the water and clean his wounds and then instructed Enria to take over and clean the wounds on Nevi’s arms, chest and shoulders. Enria placed the tray down, and took some cloth and dipped it in the water, before rinsing, so that it would be damp enough to clean his injuries. She turned to the boy and gave him a small, reassuring, smile and began to tentatively clean the wounds on his shoulder; she knew, from cleaning a few of her scraps, that it always stung so she tried to be as gentle as possible. The boy gave a slight wince at her touch but seemed to tolerate, with mild annoyance, her cleaning his wounds.

After finishing his shoulders, Enria discarded the old cloth on the tray and got a fresh one. She began to clean the dirt of the boy’s chest, being careful when she clean over the bruises that littered his torso; and she began to wonder if all boys did this as a rite of passage because even when she was in the Yasiry there were fights between boys, and this was still going on even now! Enria couldn’t fathom the reason why; but then she always did think that some of the male Inartans were a couple of eggs short of a nest. She took another fresh cloth and dipped it into water, and moved onto cleaning his arms. So far, Enria noticed, Nevi had gone through about four or five cloths, all nearly black with dirt. Though, in Enria’s opinion, he did look better, and cleaner, now. As Enria finished up on Nevi’s left arm, she noticed something off about one of the bruises. In the middle of the bruise was a large lump, and Enria not knowing what to do turned to Iosha for guidance, ”What’s that?” She said to Iosha in a calm and hushed tone, she didn’t want to spook the boy; especially if it was nothing to worry over. But Enria thought it was better safe than sorry.

Iosha watched the Enria clean the boy wounds with a small smile on her face. She seemed quite thorough with her cleaning. When she asked remedies to treat a infection without the healing grace of Rak'keli, Iosha gave her a nod and said softly,
“Cleaning and covering the wound quickly will help prevent getting a infection in the first place. The most common sanitizer is alcohol; however, if you are not able to get it treated by a healer, you can always lick you wound for quick solution to treat your wound.” Iosha smile at Nevi when he gave her a strange look at her suggestion and said softly, “However, this is only good for your own use. I suggest you don't use it on your patient.” The konti started unrolling some bandages and continued softly, “I read at the Medical Library that a garlic and wine solution is good for treating cuts. However, Garlic will irritate the wound if it is left on to long.” Iosha picked up the silver scissors and started to cut off strips of gauze and said with a smile, “My favorite remedy is applying honey to the wound. Since it good to use as a sweeter, but it works wonders on surface cuts. The problem is Wind Reach isn't the best place for having bee farms, so it might not be the ideal and cost efficient solution for Wind Reach..”

Iosha placed a bandage around a cut on his arm and started to tie the two ends of the gauze together. Still concentrating on her bandaging the Konti said to Enria without looking at her, “If your infection is under a scab, you can always use solution of water and vinegar to remove the scab and kill of the germs in the infection.” The konti tapped her chin and said thought for a chime, “If you make a onion paste with honey, you can place the paste on the wound. It doesn't irritate the skin as much as garlic, but it should help clear the infection if you keep applying it to the wound three times a day.” Enria was curious about a large bruise on his side. Looking at the large welt on his side, the konti glanced at it for a moment when she looked over at Enria and said softly, “It is a contusion or a bruise. A bruise is caused when blood vessels under the skin rupture and this is the result. They are relatively harmless, so you don't have to treat it, but if you want to do something, you can always use something cold to reduce swelling, or you can rub alcohol on it, so when it evaporate, the bruise will cool.” Iosha smirked at her and said with sigh, “, but I am a healer of Rak'Keli, so I will do something about it.” Iosha placed her webbed hand on the bruise and said a quiet prayer to her goddess. The prayer was heard and her hand turned a light blue when the light dissipated, she removed her hand and the bruise was gone. Iosha looked at Enria and said softly, “Do you know how to bandage a wound? If you do or don't, why don't your try bandaging one of his wounds.”

Enria listened intently to what Iosha was telling her. She made an effort to concentrate and store the information. Normally she’d drift off into a daydream but for the first time in a long time, but something had captured her attention; Enria actually liked finding out how to treat wounds with things like wine and honey, though Enria preferred to drink her wine. She even gave a small chuckle at the Iosha mentioning not to lick her patient. The idea of licking a wound clean seemed absurd itself but Enria could understand where the Konti was coming from.

Enria watched Iosha bandage the boy’s arm and paid close attention. She had never learnt how to bandage a wound effectively; usually when she even attempted to bandage her wounds, the bandage would normally fall off and after a few exasperated attempts Enria would give up. She’d reason with herself that it was best to let the air get to the wound, as if that was a ‘golden rule’ to helping heal a wound; although it did help in some way. She leaned in a little closer while tracing what Iosha was doing, as if leaning in a few inches would help her remember how to bandage better. She nodded while listening to Iosha telling her how to treat an infection under a scab, though Enria didn’t think that was possible to have an infection under a scab. She listened and mentally noted the ingredients she listed that would help with infection; though she’d have preferred to have jotted this down so she didn’t get the wrong ingredients or get the mixture wrong. Maybe she could ask Iosha to remind her before she left?

As for her concerns of the boy’s bruise, Iosha had put her mind to rest. She had explained exactly what a bruise was, how harmless it was and how it could be treated. Enria nodded and before she could offer to treat the bruise, Iosha had placed her hand over the bruise and prayed before lifting her hand off where the bruise was to reveal clean and clear skin. It was something about watching Iosha do this that entranced Enria, it was almost like it had a beauty about it. She gave Iosha a grateful smile; after all taking on a novice, like herself, must have its struggles, especially with all her questions. She wondered if the Konti found her bothersome.

Iosha turned to her and asked her to bandage Nevi’s wounds; it seemed to Enria that her method of teaching was to learn by doing. Enria didn’t mind, though she was worried in case she messed up. But she took some of the material that Iosha had cut ready for the bandages and began to slowly wrap it around one of the wounds on his leg. She’d seen Iosha do it earlier and so tried to copy what she did. Enria placed the edge of the cloth just to the side of the boy’s wound before slowly wrapping the cloth around his leg; she began worrying whether she had done it too tight or too loose. But she reasoned with herself that Iosha would show her where she’d gone wrong, if she did make a mistake. Nobody was expecting her to be perfect but why did she still feel nervous? After she had finished wrapping the last of the cloth around the boy’s leg, she began to tie a knot. She had never been very good at tying knots in the past; she had always found it too fiddly. So after several attempts to tie it, it came as no surprise to her that the cloth started to unravel. She held up the piece of cloth and looked to Iosha, as if she were a lost Yasi looking for help from her mentor.

“I’m not really good at bandages.” Enria admitted with a sheepish grin as she turned to face Iosha. “Or tying knots for that matter. Could you show me where I’m going wrong?”

The Doctor Will See You Now [Iosha]

You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found graded.

Overall Comments
Hello, Iosha. Firstly, Enria, if you’d like your grades, please update your ledger and PM me!

Iosha, overall, I felt like this had the beginnings of an interesting teaching session. This is my first time reading your threads and I found the empathetic nature of this character to be a very calming and nice read. In terms of XP, I felt like more could have been given if you did not utilize your gnosis as often as you did for the simple tasks. i.e. Rather than praying for cleanliness for the needle and thread, you instructed and showed Enria instead. This would have allowed me the opportunity to give you a point in teaching and medicine.

These small moments would have elevated your grade. Nevertheless, your description of the various ways to cleanse wounds was highly informative and I felt like it was great lecturing. Again, however, the various combinations that you listed would have fallen under 'herbalism' which your character has limited knowledge of. In the future, I highly suggest that you make sure your knowledge in that area matches your skill but I understand you face an interesting quandary considering you have a high-competent medical level and novice herbalism. Just remember, medicine allows you the knowledge of how to apply salves and such, but herbalism is putting combinations together. It is indeed a very grey area to grade.

Teaching-wise, next time I would suggest you teach by example, and not just verbally, but that’s merely a suggestion!

If there are any discrepancies regarding your grades, please PM me your concerns.
