BumpedJust to let people know I finally posted ^^

Timestamp: Tenth of Spring, 513 AV, around 9th bell.

Her feet tread the ground slowly, boots sinking into the snow with an air of finality even she didn't fully understand. Frozen Tundra came after, swaying slowly under the bulk of his burden, and bumping his nose against her sleeve every few steps. Whether it was for attention or reassurance Svasra was too distracted to really estimate. Her eyes scanned the docks ahead of her, the ship she was bound for moored and floating peacefully in the ice-y waters of their habour. It was scary, seeing her future so lovingly laid out right by those wooden planks, sailors milling about to depart with the next turn of the tide. She was to leave within a few bells. Frozen Tundra was to board soon to get used to the sway of the ship, and she was to follow soon afterwards to ensure they would leave on time. She took a short inhalation, and felt her hand squeezed.

Looking over to her left, Svasra smiled at Minara who strode so diligently at her side. Havok trailed at hers, his misty eyes glued ahead in a determination to 'stay strong'. There was no anger in their posture, only small hope they would see Svasra safely return. She vowed she would return. Whether it be for good, or to admit of her life somewhere else, Svasra would once again see the snowy hills of Avanthal. That she promised them. A few small parcels hung at her side, filled with articles she would give to those she hoped would arrive at the waters soon, her little farewells.

There was a scarf, originally for her mother, but she had refused such a gift. The red angora was soft and extremely warm, an article of clothing Svasra did not need anymore. While she insisted her mother take it, Minara had said to give it to someone else, as she showed Svasra the multitude of scarves she already owned. Svasra knew just the person who would appreciate the warmth the scarf would offer, she only hoped the cute desert man came today.

There were a pair of skates, sharp and new, no use for Svasra where she was going. Another thing she wished to give, and hoped her companion would accept and use. The woman would live and die in Avanthal, Svasra felt it, and hoped the skates would remind her to have the fun she'd brought to Svasra's life in the whirlwind of activity she was.

A new paint pigment was settled in its tiny container. It was a beautiful shade of purple that Svasra had just chanced upon. It's deep color and greyish hue reminded the woman of a close friend that may not be able to see the shade, but she was certain would appreciate the color in her work. It was like her eyes were staring back out of the container whenever Svasra paused to admire its radiant color.

Lastly, a small string of bells. They jingled cheerfully in their bag, ringing a sweet tenor that Svasra couldn't help but smile when she heard. It was a sash, really, with small dangling bells, that Svasra hoped her friend would like.

There wasn't any time if they didn't like them though. She breathed out slowly. She was out of time. Svasra ran a hand through her night black hair, the sections shuffling and revealing the green streaks through her inky strands shot with gold. "Ah, Queen Morwen, bless my friends within this winter world." She smiled gently, and she felt her parents move closer. The docks came into view, and so did the ships as she closed to distance to them.

Svasra turned around, facing her parents. "It's almost time to go," she said quietly, looking from one to the other. Her mother held out her hand and opened it. A petite carved glass piece lay within. The snowflake was on a thin leather string and purely clear to appear as ice.
"I realised ice would ... might melt where you're going. But, I hope you can see why we chose this for you," Havok said, faltering as his voice broke. He looked away as Minara placed a gentle hand on his shoulder.

Svasra looked at her parents. They were smiling at each other with a love that Svasra hoped she would find someday. They would be alright. Sniffling slightly, Svasra hugged both of them, and kissed her father's cheek. "I love it, I'll wear it always." Minara did it up, and Svasra felt the cool pendent against her chest. "It's beautiful, thank you," she murmured and looked down at the reflective light that twinkled off the surface.

Taking a breath, Svasra gave Frozen Tundra to a sailor that would coax him onto the ship, and ensure his safety. Walking back to her parents, she sat on the frosty ground and they sat a close distance beside her. Turning a smile, Svasra looked towards the road, waiting. Dragul was due any chime now, and her friends ... well she had told them when she would leave, and hoped they would honor her with their presence today.

Those Hard Farewells

"It's time, miss."

The words rung in her head for a few moment before Svasra was able to look at the man, standing a few feet away with a small smile. "Can I have a chime?" she asked quietly, and he nodded, walking back to the ship. Looking at her family, Svasra suddenly felt hesitant. "Maybe-"
"Svasra, you know you won't be happy here forever," Havok said, cutting off her reluctance with a firm tone. Svasra looked at him, and bit her lip.
"I could be," she mumbled, though she couldn't ignore the knowledge within his words. She would never be happy here if she didn't see the rest of the world.
"Go, Svasra, you have to," Minara said gently, nodding towards the ship.

Something in Svasra just broke. Not in the horrendous way of the past, or in such a way that could never be repaired. Something much more simple. The comfort, the familiarity of this city, the snow, the cold, it would begin to go away. It would disappear as the ship moved towards these new lands. "Mother," Svasra said, though she had nothing to say afterwards. When was the next time she would say her mother's name? See her mother's face? Throwing her arms around her parents, she drew them close, bursting into tears she'd promised she would not shed. "I don't want to leave."

Minara choked back a sob and hugged her daughter tightly, feeling Havok's hand tighten on her own as his own eyes sparkled. "Oh, snowflake, baby," she cooed. Svasra sobbed without guilt, pained to leave her parents behind. Her support system, her best friends. How could she?
"When will I see you again? What..." if something happens to you? Her parents stayed silent, likely thinking the same thing.
"Snowbird ... we are always with you," Havok said gently. He picked up the piece of glass on Svasra's chest and turned it over to reveal an etching in the glass she'd assumed was the designer's signature. It read simply We're here in Vani's elegant script. "We will be with you, no matter what happens." To either of us, was the unsaid message spoken by his hand that closed on hers.

Svasra stared at the inscription for a moment before it blurred, warm tears running over its clear surface. "Daddy, Mom, I know. I know. We'll see the world together," she cried, clinging to them with one hand as her other closed over the snowflake, feeling its edges press against her hand. "I love you guys, I'll write to you. Okay? I promise." They knew the likelihood of messages reaching all the way up to Avanthal, both they nodded all the same. They were the best parents. "I love you," she said again, hugging them.
"You know just how much we love you too, more than there are snowflakes in Avanthal." Svasra laughed through her tears, and sniffled, smiling at Minara and Havok who looked at her. "We're so proud of you, Svasra, and we always will be, no matter what path you choose," Havok added with a nod. "Though, you'll always be my little girl." He set a hand on her head that made Svasra grin.
"I wouldn't want to be anything else, Daddy."

"Miss?" a sailor called, hesitant to approach the three.
"I know." Svasra looked briefly at him and then to her parents. "Thank you, for everything," she said, squeezing her parents' hands.
"Don't thank us, we're your parents, it's our job."
"You guys are the best parents in the world." She hugged them each once again, tightly. She buried her face in her mother's hair, smelled the perfume she wore, smiled at Minara's gentle face, and her flickering eyes. She felt the gentle scratch of her father's stubble, his strong arms wrap her up with a security she never took for granted, heard his deep breathing he did when he was trying not to cry. "I love you."
"I love you too," Minara said quietly.
"I love you," Havok murmured. Svasra smiled and stepped away, beginning to walk towards the ship. "Remember to speak Vani with Dragul!" he called as she departed. Turning, Svasra smiled.
"I will!"
"And practice your Common, you better be fluent when you come back!" Svasra laughed.
"Yes ma'am!"
"We love you!"
"I know. Love you too."
"We're with you."
"We'll see the world together." They fell silent as Svasra began to get too far away to hear them properly. "I'll be back soon!" she yelled, waving.

Svasra boarded the ship and looked towards Dragul, smiling ever-so-slightly. "We are going, finally." The ship began to move away from the docks. Away from Avanthal, her friends, and her family. Yet, Svasra knew this was what was right. She held the snowflake as she waved to her parents.
"We love you!!" drifted over the air, and Svasra smiled, yelling it back, though she wasn't sure if they heard. Right before they dropped out of view, Svasra saw Minara enter Havok's embrace as they cried together by the docks.

She took a breath when their figures finally became specks on the white landscape of her home. It hitched in her throat, her flickering gaze oblivious to the bustling sailors around her, ushering her towards where she would be until she was allowed out as they came to the Spires. Sitting on the floor, feeling the rock of the ship, knowing there was no going back, Svasra couldn't help but cry. Cry for the home she'd left behind. Cry for the journey to come. Cry, in a mixture of happiness, as she realized she had the courage to take this life into her own hands. She was not alone, not by any means. And I never will be, she thought silently, taking the glass pendent into her hands.

Note: "Svasra speaking Vani, Svasra speaking Common"

Additional Notes :
This breaks my heart so much in so many ways, the reasons for which I am sure you are already privy to. I wish that Svasra may find what it is she's searching for that she cannot see in Avanthal, and I hope she grows to be a wonderful storyteller during her journey. Safe travels!
