[Entrance to Thunder Bay] Sea Full of Hooks {Aidara}

Postby Una Tanta on August 15th, 2013, 2:30 pm

Hearing the word family Una met Aidaras eyes before glancing out to sea. She desperately wanted to return to her family but she knew she couldn't swim that far without dying or attracting unwanted attention as her blood seeped into the water. "You." She nodded, the pressure of the bandage relieving the blood loss and easing the pain. Charoda physiology was very similar to human anatomy internally despite the outward appearance. However, like fish Una had a nervous system similar to humans with an increased amount of nerve endings in the mouth and fingertips.

Wounds heal similar to the way wounds heal on dolphins. Within a day, blubber migrates to the surface and forms a white “wound dressing.” By day 2, tissue fills the wound restoring lost volume. By 4 weeks, healing, including of the epidermis (top skin layer), is typically complete. Blubber contains isovaleric acid—which may have antibacterial properties and also keeps the tissue from freezing. This has been used by Charoda doctors for millennium but is little known by land dwellers. Parents, like Unas, will often harvest blubber from dead animals to use beneath wrappings. So long as it is clean and the wrappings remain tight enough to stem the increased blood flow caused by the presence of a foreign body it increases healing.

However, known by anyone who has spent time near the ocean is the "diving reflex". To conserve oxygen underwater the heart slows constricting blood vessels and shifts blood away from the extremities. This reflex is triggered by breath-holding and submersion in water. The typical suggestion given to human children, to breath through the pain only worsens wounds in Charoda.

If Addy were to remove Una from the water her wound would worsen, shock would set in if she were to stand and she could bleed to death. However, Una placed her trust implicitly into the soothing warmth of motherhood that emanated from Aidara. Reaching out Una ran her hands slowly over the womans body. It was more yielding than her own, indenting wherever she applied pressure but it was rougher than hers giving her fingers tract as she wrapped herself around the woman wobbling as she stood. Breathing heavily from the effort, the water shedding off her body blood poured toward the wound and bandage soaking through instantly. Touching her side the red spilled over her pearl white skin and seeped over the sand making it coagulate beneath her feet.

[Entrance to Thunder Bay] Sea Full of Hooks {Aidara}

Catching hold of Aidara Una struggled not to collapse. "Oh..." Aidara replied shocked by the flush of blood and quickly pressed her hands to the gash to stop the bleeding. She needed to run, she couldn't stay in this woman's arms forever. She couldn't die here. In her panic Una struck out at the beautiful mother showing impressive strength and sending her naked form into the sandy ground. Plunging toward the ocean, Una tripped over the tips of the waves quickly panting heavily. As she slipped beneath the waves she didn't hesitate to look back as her toes were the last thing to disappear from sight.

Her undulating body was stifled by the pain in her abdomen, the hook had caught beneath her ribcage and though it hadn't broken anything and was a place quick to heal the pain was unlike anything she had felt before. The only place she remembered from her time in Thunder Bay was Flutter Cove and she instinctively dove towards it's entrance. Sav' Leya was a Konti with a talent for healing and an understanding of Charodae anatomy. She had been an older sister of sorts to Una and through the pain she relished seeing her again.

As she wove through the seaweed and gentle arches from Mt.Skyinarta towards the cove she didn't waste time pondering over the fish and wondrous creatures before her that she hadn't seen since childhood. Losing blood quickly to the water she began to feel faint and out of the corner of her eyes saw the creatures approaching. They could smell the blood for miles she knew. She herself could smell the dead for miles. They were coming for her.

As she slipped into the final stages of darkness she released her hold on the light and vanished...

[Entrance to Thunder Bay] Sea Full of Hooks {Aidara}

When she awoke she was in a warm pool, the faint glow of a face above her. Eyes coming into focus as the white hair tickled her face and a warm seaweed broth was forced through her parted lips Una gasped choking on the broth. "Sav'Leya!" She cheered before clutching at her side in surprise. A thick bandage lay against it with a tough seaweed wrapping. Inedible and tough the seaweed was often used by the charodae above water as it was one of the few species that didn't lose it's integrity when dry.

Sav"Leya frowned at her in response to her glee. "You should be more careful Una..." Taken aback by her hostility she nodded dumbly. "I used a numbing solution. With your healing abilities the whole should be healed in the next day or two but it wont be completely fixed for a couple of weeks you understand?" Una nodded again. "You should leave..." "Why?" "Are you here to see your parents?" "Yes." "You should get there quickly." "Why?" "You abandoned your mother to be alone with those two...how can you possibly think she faired well? If she is any semblance of the woman you used to know I will be gloriously surprised. Please leave, and go to her quickly. Wound of the flesh are easy to heal compared to wounds of the heart." Her coldness thawed as she gazed matronly down at Una worry clouding her notoriously free and fluid face.

Nodding, her mind buzzing with the news and the pain killers the Konti had given her, Una slipped back into the water the hours of unconsciousness feeling only like moments and the weight of exhaustion making her slip through the water with unusual heavy clumsiness. "Mom..." she murmured setting her sights toward her home the shock of fear Leya had struck in her bringing back the painful memories of her childhood and granting her a mental compass of home.

Bonus:

Additional Comments: A great job correlating the challenge of speaking in Common to another who likewise struggles with the language. I gave you rhetoric for making Aidara understand in the short-clipped method you used. Likewise, I gave you wrestling for when you man-handled the ginger ;)
