On the east bank of Kenash river, just across Gold Beach, stands the Black Diamond Cosmetics. The shop is situated on more than 10,800 square feet of land, and is one of the properties occupying a larger plot of stone-walled land in the city. Sitting on a crossroad and with the Black Swan Pond just nearby, it is nearly impossible to miss this beauty shop. There are two entrances to the shop itself. One leads directly to the store, through a short flight of stone steps that ends with a wooden black door at the top of the landing. The other is through an elegant wooden gate several feet to the east of the main shop entrance. Only the owner, Katherine Morealis, her important guests, and her staff are allowed through this entrance, and it is almost always locked. Both entrances open to the sound of pleasantly tinkling chimes. Going through the gate entrance, one is immediately met with a large garden area. To the west is another flight of steps that leads up onto a small breezeway, which connects the shop, the herbalism lab behind it, and the philtering lab further west. These structures are built on a slightly higher ground than the garden, and raised by a thick stone foundation beneath it. Inside the shop, which was made of smooth white stone, one is immediately greeted by the inviting scent of rosewood. The interior is quite simple and sparsely decorated, the colorful products for sale serving as the ornaments themselves. Rows of shelves made from polished dark wood line the walls, stacked full with a myriad of bottled cosmetics in different colors and sizes. Products are separated according to type, so skin care products will be found in a different shelf than the makeup products. At the back of the room is a fine wooden counter, where most of the purchases are made. At the east side of the shop is a patio door-window that leads out to the breezeway and the garden below. Much of the lot is still unused garden space, only a portion of it used to produce the herbs the shop owner often use for her cosmetics line. Her money all but used up, the Inarta knew it was only a matter of time before she ends up a slave, a fate she had ran away from in Wind Reach. One Summer day, her body tired and her stomach protesting in hunger, an impassive Katherine Morealis chanced upon her and disgustedly shoved food into the girl’s hands. It was the most exquisite thing Iora had ever tasted in her whole life. Mistaking the lady’s gesture as an act of generosity, she tailed the young Morealis for days, stubbornly asking for a job. An exasperated Katherine finally gave in and hired her as help at the cosmetics shop. Iora’s job description includes being her mistress’ gofer, entertainer, and product tester. The young Inarta doesn’t mind though, even when she gets punished a lot for no reason at all. Her life was easy compared to other slaves of her age forced to work in the fields. These consists primarily of waxes, paints, oils and dyes made from commonly found plants, animals, and minerals. Pigments used in makeup are simple and not very flashy. These are mostly effective with just covering minor blemishes and adding some color, albeit in duller hues, to one’s looks. Care and hygiene products does not take effect as fast as unusual cosmetics, and often products does not come with any noticeable scent unless otherwise noted. Unusual - Cosmetics under this category contain brighter, flashier colors and/or provide stark contrasts to the face. These are made from plants and flowers that are a bit harder to come by and requires a bit more work to blend the right pigments in order to get the most pizazz. These type of cosmetics add more to one's looks than common cosmetics and helps one stand out in a sea of plain faces. In skilled hands, makeups under this category can considerably improve one’s appearance. Care and hygiene product, with continued use, improves one’s features. Shampoos will make hair softer, moisturizers will bring about softer skin. These often comes with pleasing scents. Rare - These type of cosmetics are very hard to come by. Most likely there are only a very limited selection available at the shop. These are made from extremely hard to find flowers, animals and minerals. Ingredients may be dangerous to procure or are found in isolated places in small quantities. Cosmetics of this type, however, have the most unique range of colors and when worn would definitely make one stand out in a crowd. Those who know how to use them effectively can transform one’s features using the illusion the colors these cosmetics provide. Care and hygiene products provide wondrous results that could already be seen within days of use. Those who use these products know how it feels to be pampered, and even those cursed with the most ordinary of faces would instantly feel more beautiful upon usage. These always come with rare, pleasant scents. Exotic - These cosmetics have the same quality with products under the rare category. However, exotic cosmetics’ availability are even rarer than rare. These are crafted from plants, animals and minerals which are far removed from Kenash and can only be found in other regions.
