(Before I begin, let me just say that without this
character workshop I would never been able to generate my character’s personal goals and the character diamond to come. So mad props go to Katie, who, in addition to being an incredible writer, is a genuinely cool person who occasionally allows me to bask in such coolness despite the fact that I am a total lame-o in comparison. --Will, aka Tobias)
Ultimate Goal: to redeem himself.Tobias is a bad man. Or, at least, he was, though he hides his past behind a wall of courtesy and humor. But, in truth, when his world burned down and only the slightest sliver of mercy let him live, Tobias became determined to redeem himself and repay this mercy a hundredfold. Though old sins stain his cloak and shadows of the past nip at his heels, he is determined to make things right, in whatever way he can.
The path of redemption is a hard one, and fraught with conflicts. For one thing, Tobias is no healer and no priest, so he must works in smaller ways – a friendly hand there, an encouraging comment here, or perhaps a song or two. These are the tools he wields against the darkness.
Another conflict lies in the inherent nature of Mizahar – it’s dangerous. Tobias has sworn off all weaponry, but there may come a time when his words will not protect him. His past works actively to thwart him, and sooner or later Tobias will need to defend himself.
Penultimate Goal: to find a home.Directly contrasting his ultimate goal is his penultimate one, and whereas his first goal is to help others this one was designed to help himself. All his life, Tobias has felt like an outcast. This was in large the fault of his father and his environment, but Tobias did not helped matters when he chose to lash out in response. It is this feeling of being spurned that made him into a killer, and for the good of himself and others Tobias is currently looking for a place to call home. And, as his father failed him, now Tobias turns to the other parent…
The conflict lies here, with his mother. Tobias’s mother disappeared many years ago, and the only clue to her location lies in a map she left behind. Tobias is as of current retracing her footprints, trying to find any clue to who and where she is. Whether or not he will succeed in this goal is unknown.
