[Denval] Entrance Thread

There was a man on the other side of the impromptu cockfight who had an eye for Jackson. He went from a bluff, blustery good-nature over the feathery fight to a quiet, measuring glance that only broke when one of the roosters did, the bantam being too injured to continue and, indeed, too injured for its owner to care that its opponent was tearing it to death despite the fact that the match was won. Then Denvali were a peaceful people, but perhaps only because they had no enemies anymore.

The man looked away when others cuffed his shoulders and handed him their money. Oleg wasn't the sort of man one wanted to cross in matters of money especially. He was a man in the know, though he had no official authority under the rule of Captain Astrid.

As the group broke up, Oleg turned back to the Stranger's Welcome, his inn and tavern. Everyone in Denval knew Oleg, and Oleg knew everyone in Denval. The flash of recognition had been clear enough.

He knew Jackson LaCroix.

OOCFeel free to start a thread in the Stranger's Welcome if Jax wants to speak to Oleg for any reason. If not, play at will, but someone knows he's back. ;)

[Denval] Entrance Thread

Postby Alodian Aviastas on July 19th, 2010, 4:54 pm

Alodian almost fell onto his face when the boy stopped. The boy said that he was to marry his sister?! Shaking his head, Alodian watched as Mihai told him where he lived. He was about to say something when he continued, and then changed directions. Following the boy, he guessed that he was being taken to the Captain.

Unsure what to make of the little boy, Alodian was still stuck on the thought of being in an arranged marriage. He decided that he would try to meet someone on his own, instead of being forced.

[Denval] Entrance Thread

Season of Autumn, Day 23, 509 AV
Morning

Ryshaltze stepped down from the ship, unconsciously re-adjusting the backpack that he wore self-consciously like a tourist and his cello case that he grabbed tightly with his right hand. News of this place when it began to open up spread to the taverns and gossip-centers of the other towns that he was in, and upon hearing the opening of a route here he decided to explore.

Nothing than a new land to experience new air.

Though he was still slightly uneven in his footing - for ship travel never really agreed with him - he grinned and stopped to take in the scenery. He realized that he had no idea on what to do here. Regardless, what would an adventure be if it is preplanned?

Where shall I go now?

Image"Oy!" shouted a man sitting in front of the building at the end of the passenger quay. The building looked, for all intents and purposes, like a prosperous inn, which it was. The man was the proprietor, as Ryshaltze would quickly learn. Everyone in Denval knew about Oleg, and about Oleg's cousin Olga who left Denval in search of fame and fortune and sweet, sweet loving.

"If you know how to play that thing, then come inside. We need something to liven the place up and a little music wouldn't hurt! I'll feed you and there will be tips!" He spoke good Common, as well he should as one of the first people most newcomers to Denval met.

He waved the musician over. If he could play, he would likely be very popular at the Stranger's Welcome.

[Denval] Entrance Thread

Postby Marius on July 24th, 2010, 8:58 pm

18th of Summer, 510 AV

Marius had always distrusted boats. His parents hated them, and the mere sight of one was enough to make his ‘Nuncle Ambrose seasick. No, the Meros preferred the stability of stone beneath their feet. Marius wasn’t quite so discomfited by seasickness as much as the knowledge that the boat was taking on water. ‘It’s a ship, not a boat,’ the captain had scowled at him, ‘And for your information, all ships leaks. It’s the seams, y’see – the water seeps through. So we have to pump the hold out every so often.’ If anything, the man’s comments only contributed to Marius’ paranoia.

Regrettably, this exchange had occurred early in the voyage. For the next half-season Marius had woken at all hours of the night to slip into the cargo hold. Was the water rising? Who was manning the pumps? What if one of the pumps broke, and they had to bail with buckets? Would they be unable to contain the leaking? In the end Marius had been locked in his cabin – ostensibly to prevent him from interfering with the sailors, but rather, he suspected, so that he might drown with the boat.

And now, praise be to Semele, he had arrived at his destination. Marius shuffled off the docks, and when his shackles were finally removed, bent down and kissed the earth. Watch out, ladies! Marius Mero has arrived! Shouldering his belongings, he took his first steps into the settlement.

[Denval] Entrance Thread

Postby Kayana on July 25th, 2010, 6:15 pm

20th Day of Summer, 510 AV

Kayana had left home for new sights. She had loved the beautiful city of Avanthal that she grew up in but she could not help but wonder what the rest of the world looked like. That was what brought her to Denval. She wanted to see what other places were like. She wanted to meet people other than the familiar faces of home. She would need to learn new ways of her craft now that she was in a different climate. She was so used to making fur coats and heavy boots. She would still need to make them but it was not all year round. She liked the idea of moving to Denval. It was similar to Avanthal in the Winter and she liked that. She always loved the winter. Of course, she never experienced any other seasons.

As she stepped off the boat she smiled and patted her leg for her spicecoat, Leonin to follow. Leonin, or Leo as she liked to call him was a good sized dog with thick red fur and warm brown eyes. She loved him like a brother. "Well Leo, welcome to our new home."[b] she said with a nervous smile. Leonin rubbed his face against her leg and looked up at her with a panting smile. She smiled at him [b]"I know the ride here was hard but we canr relax now." she said ruffling his fur.

The two young travelers arrived at the gates and were ready for their new life. "Good bye Avanthal and Hello Denval." she said looking down at Leo. Leo wagged his tail and let out a bark of agreement.

[Denval] Entrance Thread

Postby Kirea on July 30th, 2010, 5:10 am

Kirea, feeling rather nauseated was nearly knocked to the ground by the sudden change in momentum as the ship docked. She'd come above deck for some fresh air and was relieved to see the deck hands making quick work of anchoring and preparing the ship for the passengers to unboard it.

After all had been done she stepped daintly off the boat, rejoicing in the cease of rocking as her feet landed upon solid ground. Her eyes settling upon the scenery she noted it's beauty and made her way up the dock to search for a fitting establishment and mingle with whatever persons she found along her way.

[Denval] Entrance Thread

Postby Amon on August 7th, 2010, 8:27 pm

Timestamp: 64th of Summer 510AV

It hadn't taken particularly long for Amon to reach the small settlement that was Denval. He'd heard of it before, passed over it numerous times on his excursions around the mountains of Kalea, but rarely had it crossed his mind to visit. Receiving an order from the Flight Mother herself, Amon was to bring a shipment of glassworks to the Denvali, for what, he couldn't particularly guess. He didn't know of any glassworkers that resided on Denval, but perhaps he'll be surprised. Either way, he had stored away one grand piece of glasswork for the Captain, whom he hoped he would be able to meet, in an attempt to understand and appreciate the people he believed lived precariously and shut out from the rest of the world.

Sakima had landed effortlessly on the stone quay near the docks, with gusts of wind blowing in every direction from the flaps of his enormous wings. Untying the package from his harness, Amon slipped to the ground and patted Sakima's neck affectionately. "Won't take long, my friend." He murmured. The eagle gave a feathery laugh, "These people, gawking like silly goats. It'll be amusing for now."

The rider smiled, lifting the protective headband he wore for flight to allow him the pleasure of soaking in the unusual scenery. Somehow it reminded him much of Syliras. Or maybe that was his horrible memory rearing it's ugly head. He took the package in his hands. "Time to find this Captain..."
