Appearance
Jorin would be the first to tell you that he is handsome and dashing and all the rest. The truth is, while he is far from ugly, Ertihan is hardly the pinnacle of the human form. Standing at an unimpressive 5"6' and weighing in at just under 150 pounds, average is pretty much the best he could aspire to. With close-cropped brown hair, a small beard and what he would describe as "piercing green eyes!" which are more accurately described as sea-green and fairly normal, he does not really stand out in a crowd. He does, however, have a fairly toned body; the rigours of prancing about on stage keeps Jorin in shape. Not to mention, his pride as an actor would not allow him to be anything but.
Concept
Jorin Ertihan sees himself as an artist and an amateur scholar, always wanting to learn new things and go new places. His father was a scholar through and through, a mathematician of the highest order (or at least, as high as such orders go in a post Valterrian world). However, the man was a workaholic, spending day and night poring over graphs and figures, proving theorems and not having much time for his son. Jorin did not resent his father for this, in fact he was (and still is) quite proud of his father's achievements. Still, watching his father devote his life to something that, in Jorin's opinion, did not seem to have a great deal of practical value dissuaded him from following in his footsteps.
Jorin's mother was a poet and painter. Jorin always believed that what drew the two was the one thing they had in common; a stupendous imagination. But while his father's imagination drew circles and triangles in the air, his mother's imagination put words on paper and paint on canvas. Jorin loved how his mother's creations created whole worlds he could be lost in, but both his parents were sedentary people. His father locked in his office, his mother in her studio, both perfectly happy to grow old together in the city of Zeltiva without ever having seen the outside of the city.
Jorin did not agree with this. From a very young age, the boy had an itch, a burning desire to see the world and all its wonders. His father vigorously disagreed, pointing out the dangers of such an imperious act, but Jorin, being the impetuous youth he was, took that as a challenge. He would see the world, he determined, and no one was going to stop him!
When he was fifteen, his chance came in the form of a caravan carrying a troupe of travelling actors, putting on a stage play for the Lightshow Theatre. The young Jorin was so entranced by the acting, the colourful costumes and the passion displayed on the stage that he begged the stage master to take him on as an understudy. Although the stage master was reluctant at first, Jorin's begging and cajoling eventually caused him to relent, and for the next five years he would travel with the troupe, learning all he could and putting his thoughts and memories in his journal, the only keepsake of his old life he kept with him.
Things came to a head when it was time for Jorin to cease being an understudy. After five years of toiling under the shadow of the stage, fetching props and costumes, and reading opposition parts but never actually being on stage, Jorin's time had come. For his first stage performance, Jorin's energy and passion captured the attention of the audience, but his shaky memory caused him to flub a few lines. The stage master assured him this was normal for one's first time on stage, but when it happened again, Jorin knew the stage master would not be as forgiving. Thankfully, that was the second curtain, and the play was over. Their next stop was going to be Riverfall. Jorin hoped to impress the stage master with his performance there. Only time would tell whether he would succeed.
