Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Radovan entered the Labor Aid office with his typical serious expression. He had hopes for getting employment with the skill he had, which was mining. He loved to hunt for and extract the gems that his mother, brother, and other jewelers would turn into fine jewelry. He also needed a home, now that he was an adult. He greeted the Akalak at the desk politely. His mother and father had always taught him to use good manners. He asked for the right forms and they were given to him. He sat and filled them out, then handed them back to the Akalak.

Levi Remilian

22nd of Fall, 513 AV

Having just arrived in Riverfall, welcome scroll still in hand, Levi decided it would be best to head to this “Labor Aid” place before exploring the rest of the city with Naya. The young man wanted to get the business of getting housing for himself and Naya, as well as seeing if he could find out if there was a job available for a spiritist in Riverfall; even if he was only a visitor Levi still had to make a living, unlike his ghostly companion. Said ghostly companion was expectedly annoyed that she had to wait yet again before having fun. And so Levi came to the Labor Aid building with a rather grumpy looking Naya floating close behind, arms crossed. After looking about the rather simple structure for a moment, Levi pushed open the large wooden door and made his way into the building. Mildly amused upon seeing a muscular Akalak sitting behind the front desk, the spiritist went up to the front desk.

“Hello sir, I am here to–“

“Hmm?! What’s a big strong Akalak doing paperwork here for?”

Naya suddenly quipped up as she literally passed through Levi and right up to the Akalak’s face.” Sighing, Levi stepped over to the left a little to get out of the ghost’s way. “Naya, now isn’t the time for this; you said you wanted to explore so just let me finish please.” Turning to the Akalak again, Levi started again. “Sorry, she is going up to just about every Akalak she sees like that. I am here to ask about housing and a job for myself.” Naya, after getting in the Akalak’s face, seemed to now have a mind of seeing around the building and not even waiting for an answer blinked away to the stairs and floated up to the second floor.

The Akalak quietly replied, "Please fill out the following..." while handing Levi a few papers. Levi nodded and began quickly filling out the sheets.

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Koa:

Malix eyebrows rose briefly as he took back the form, immediately wishing the Coalinga Gem Mines had sent in an employment request for gemcutters. As it was, all they wanted was miners. There was really only one place for that type of work.

"Gemcutter, hm? Well, Jackinto over at Valreig's Gem Shop is always looking for a steady pair of hands to help out. Gemcutters there make..." He paused to shuffle a stack of papers, pulling out a form from the middle with a flourish of triumph. "Aha, 9gm a day. Nice paying job right there. What do you say?"

Venya:

Malix did a discreet double take as the pretty young Konti walked in, and watched her in his peripheral as she filled out the form. Ah, Kontis. Such a pleasure to see walk in. Doubly so because he'd have a chance to work on his Nakivak quota. The poor little thing looked nervous and Malin, in the back for the time being, itched for the chance to comfort her.

"Falconry, hm?" He said brightly as she returned her form, flashing her a brilliant smile as Malin flickered to the helm. "Well, I know right away that the Menagerie is always looking for capable people to manage their bird exhibit, but let me see if I can't find an option for you..." Winking up at her once, he pulled a sheath of papers from his right and began to rifle through them. "Here we go. You may also want to talk to Kavala out at the Sanctuary. She's got all kinds of animals out there, and she may have a job for a falconer. People in the trade generally make 5gm."

Setting down the sheets, Malin leaned forward, hands folded under his chin. "You may also want to consider becoming a Nakivak. It pays very well, and all you have to do is bear a child for the city. All your medical expenses are paid for, and you can even do it in addition to a regular job. If you talk to Kavala, ask her about being a Nakivak; I know she used to be in the program." He actually wasn't sure how the woman felt about her status, but trusted that someone who's establishment had become practically an addition to the city would encourage one of her Konti sisters to assist the Akalak race. "What do you say?"

Alia:

The woman seemed quite put-upon when she took the form and Malin watched her carefully. She was human, so the possibility of Nakivak-status was slim. He hummed thoughtfully when she returned her paper, and reflected that they seemed to be getting an influx of musicians and performers lately.

"I'm afraid the Amphitheatre doesn't hire musicians, but there are numerous establishments throughout town that allow buskers. You can either busk out on the street, or see if the establishments will allow you in, you about make the same either way: 4gm. In fact, we sent a young man over to the White Crane just recently, Tobias was his name. Maybe you two can do a duet?" He smiled genially, and slipped her application into a rack at his left. "Check out the White Crane, if that sounds alright. They'll probably require an audition, but I'm sure they'd love to have a pretty face like yours. What do you say?"

Selva:

Malix was surprised speechless when the clearly blind woman came in and made her way to the desk. Malin, normally very interested in any Konti who came in, remained quiet in the back of his mind. After taking the form, he looked down at the awkward scrawl and found it surprisingly legible.

"A masseuse... You know I just saw an opening come across my desk..." He rifled through the stack of pamphlets at his right, glancing up at her awkwardly. Shouldn't she have a husband to help her around town? A kelvic perhaps? "Here we go, the Moonstone Bath and Massage. Nice place, ran by a nice pair of girls, twins, you know. Masseuses make 5gm down there. It's right next to.." He found himself almost moving to show her the pamphlet before he caught himself. How would she get down there? It wasn't exactly next door. "Here, let me... I can get someone to show you down there. Korkrut! Korkrut!" He called loudly over his shoulder. An Akalak youth scampered out, sniffling a stuffy nose.

"Yea?"

"Take this nice woman down to Moonstone Massage, she's getting a job there. Mind your manners," he hissed as the boy passed the desk.

"Come with me, miss!" Puffing up importantly, he grabbed her hand and began moving toward the door. It wasn't until they were gone that Malix realized he completely forgot to offer Nakivak status. Oh well, she'd hear about it eventually and seek it out if she wanted it.

Radovan:

"Afternoon, brother!" Malix greeted warmly and passed the requested forms over the desk. It was always pleasant to see one of his Akalak brethren come in, perhaps even more so than the pretty Kontis.

Taking the forms back, he laid the employment one down and focused on housing. "Well, we've got quite a few openings for housing..." He hummed thoughtfully, thumbing through a stack of pamphlets. "The Pearl House is nice, run by Kontis, you know... Kuahala has a couple openings too. And Windswept Condos as well, if you're looking for something with a little greenery."

Turning to the employment form he grinned at the lakan listing. "You'll be testing for Kuvan soon then, eh? Well, Coalinga Gem Mines will be happy to have another strong arm around. Decent pay too, 5gm a day. They say Typhus is a bear to work with, but keep your nose clean and you should be fine." As he spoke, he shuffled through a drawer at his right, finally producing a form. "This should get you past the Cerulean - don't let those petching exiles push you around - and whenever you meet in the camp itself will direct you to Typhus for hiring." He signed the document with a flourish and slid it across the desk. "Good luck out there, brother."

Levi:

When the man and ghost walked in, Malin was surprised, but happy to have more than one person to talk to at a time. As the ghost flitted into his personal space however, Malix took over and drove the situation in a strictly professional direction. "Because someone has to direct the masses," he answered a little coldly. His eyes followed the translucent figure as she moved upwards, praying to Akajia she didn't spook the interns.

Malix couldn't help but glance once more up to the ceiling as the man passed his papers back over the desk. Looking at the housing form first, as was his usual practice, he hummed thoughtfully. There were several housing options around town, but given the man's 'friend'... "I would actually recommend a personal cottage, rather than a housing development. Apartments tend to be rather close and neighbors may not be very welcoming to..." There was a loud thump from the ceiling above, though Malix didn't have any real proof it was related to the ghost. "Visitors. Here is a listing of available cottages; there's openings on every level of the city." Passing a well-notated map across the desk and turned to the employment application.

He wasn't sure why he was surprised, given the man's companion, but spiritists didn't simply walk in every day. "You..are quite lucky." He set the application on the desk in front of him delicately. "High Spirits is looking for an apprentice spiritist, and you're the first one to come through in quite a while. Given your skills," he glanced at the paper briefly. "You could expect as much as 10gm a day. What do you say?"

OOC :
There's really nothing stopping you from getting an apartment, this was just the most logical suggestion for Malix to make given the...circumstances. Feel free to either pick an apartment somewhere, or place a 20'x20' cottage pretty much anywhere in the city.

Waiting while Malix filed through his papers, Levi only hoped that Naya wasn't causing much trouble upstairs. People here just didn't act the same way with ghosts as they did at Black Rock, so the sudden appearance of a ghost rising up through the floor would be quite frighteneing to the weak-hearted. Levi nodded to Malix as the Akalak suggested a cottage as housing. Upon hearing the thud from the second floor, the spiritist simply shook his head. The ghost has most definitely done something up there.

"I understand, I see most people here don't react quite well to Naya." Taking the map, Levi began scanning it for the notated locations of the city's cottages. The spiritist was still looking through the map when Malin set an application before him. Taking the paper, he nodded to the Akalak with a mildly pleased expression. "I will accept it. Thank you."

As Levi left the building, he saw that Naya was already waiting fior him outside, hands held behind her back and whistling innocently. Crossing his arms, Levi peered down at Naya , "Alright, what did you do Naya?"

"Nothing big brother! I didn't do anything... hehe~" The ghost girl giggled mischeviously, having obviously done something upstairs. Levi let out a small smirk as he began walking away from the building. "Of course you didn't, little sister, of course you didn't"

OOC :
Question: Where in the city is High Spirits, since it isn't on the map? The same side as the Labor Aid building or the opposite side? And can the shop NPC be self-modded or not?

Alia stepped back a bit, considering her options, a busker job sounded nice, 4gm wasn't too bad, but she had already set her ways on getting the Amphitheater job. Returning her focus to the woman, Alia shook her head a bit,
"I am not just a musician, I assure you, I am also an actor, and I'm pretty sure that the Amphitheater has use for actors with musical abilities as well? I can hone my acting skills, work my way up. I'm sure I could be some help..." Alia decided she would check out the White Crane anyway, and figure out who Tobias was, but first, she had to do what she could to assure a job at the Amphitheater.

A surge of excitement rushed through Koa's body when Malix spoke the pay of his choice occupation. He took control of himself and offered a polite smile and and a formal handshake. "Jackinto over at Valreig's Gem Shop, right? I'll head there right away." His self control gave out though, and he burst into laughter where he stand. He then made his way out the door to find Valreig's Gem Shop.

(sorry for the lack of formatting, the posting interface is acting a bit strangely for me)

Alia:

Malix's eyebrows rose slightly. Normally people weren't so set on their particular place of employment. Another reason for his hesitation in recommending it was that fact that he'd already sent a couple people up there that season alone. If acting was what she wanted though...

"You're welcome to audition at the Amphitheatre, though you will be using your acting more than your musicianship. You may also want to talk to Jorin and Krima up there; they're new hires as well. Actors make 4gm a day as well, so there's no difference in pay."

[Riverfall] The Citizenship, Housing, and Labor Aid Office

Postby Noha on September 28th, 2013, 9:34 am

It took half a day's hike for Noha before she arrived at the Labor Aid Office. She waited patiently by the door until a larger person walked inside and followed them with a quick step, eager to avoid getting squished between the doorjamb. It had happened once before in this city, it could happen again, she wagered. The tall people here didn't seem to give her much thought.

Amazed by the simple yet effective design of the structure, Noha had high hopes for her current city. If she had to stay there for a bit longer it might not be so bad, but eventually the itch would settle in her legs and she would go elsewhere. For now, it was important that she hold down a job at least. Something non-invasive - where she would not fear getting squashed by big, blue feet.

She approached the massive desk at which Malin and Malix waited on petitioners and job seekers, and patiently awaited her turn. The constant revolving door of interesting characters flitting to and from the desk astounded her. Riverfall really is the place to be for someone like me, she thought.

As soon as she was up, Noha jumped and scaled the desk with ease. Her tiny hands and feet found notches and scrapes in the worn wood that facilitated her ascent. She appeared over the edge of the counter and looked up at the bureaucrat, talking with a let's-get-down-to-business attitude that would hopefully convince him of her maturity.

"I would like to apply for a job," she said, and side stepped the paper that he slid onto the counter in front of her. Faster than one would assume possible, she jogged over to pick up the pen and began filling out the form. It took her some time, and the use of most of her body, but she returned the completed form with pride and beamed up at the Akalak while waiting her job prospects. A few foot prints dotted the paper where she had crossed over wet ink, but the rest was legible.

"I am looking for work, my friend, however I require a Job that will allow me to take an extensive break in the middle of they day to meditate." Groth said softly.

"Sure, no problem, sir" Replied the person at the counter, "just fill this in."
